I’ve been meaning to draw Vaughn and Desmond in a pool/beach setting and once I saw the new official Date Everything art that was posted, I was immediately inspired!! I used the corner area as a reference.

I drew Desmond over Mitchell Linn. (I’m sorry Mitchell, it’s nothing personal. I swear!!)

I decided to let Desmond keep their green hair from the last art I posted of them. They’re reading a book about plant care and sharing some cheese with Vaughn as he takes a break from his rat hunting and general antics.

In the official art Mitchell is drinking a glass of (what I assume to be) champagne. Desmond doesn’t drink alcohol so I gave them a lime Jarritos to drink instead. I also drew Brunhilda (Desmond’s cane) leaning against their chair. This was fun to draw and I especially loved being able to show off more of Desmond’s tattoos! The piano keyboard on their stomach is one of favorites and since Desmond is usually wearing a shirt I’m my drawings, it’s often covered.

My lovely partner <3 gave me a sketchbook with very nice thick paper, so I made some little sharpie drawings of Vaughn reacting to Desmond’s newly dyed green hair!!

Desmond loves to collect and takes care of many plants and they have many in their home. They love cacti in particular so they really appreciate Vaughns sweet observation. I imagine that Vaughn loves to pet Desmond’s hair, he likes the scratchy sort of peach fuzz texture. Desmond loves the feeling of Vaughns hands tenderly petting them. They use a shampoo that smells like green apples, so their hair being green is a bit fitting. Vaughn lovingly comments on this and it makes Desmond laugh.

Irl my buzzcut is incredibly short and I shaved it again today, so I can’t dye it at the moment. I do plan to dye it green someday. So until that day, I will enjoy occasionally drawing Desmond with green hair.

I used the ending lyrics and spoken parts of the song “Your stupid face” by Kaden Macay as the words for the comic. I wrote Desmonds dialogue on my own. I just wanted to use the ending bit as the focus for this comic.

Tw: Angst with a happy ending

I wanted to share my thoughts and also add some context for what happened before this comic. I’m not a very confident writer so I apologize for any typos/grammatical errors in this. I

Vaughn and Desmond were hanging out in the bed room together. Vaughn felt a surge of cuteness aggression towards Desmond and it deeply flustered him. Without thinking, he snapped his trap on their arm as he trying reached out to hold their hand.

Desmond started crying a bit and Vaughn felt awful. Desmond was hurt both physically emotionally but they understood that Vaughn is a rat trap and as such, he has to potential to hurt them even though they know he wouldn’t do it intentionally. Desmond noticed that Vaughn got his hand hurt by his own trap as well and went to bathroom to get him a fun blue bandaid. They apologized as they patched him up. Vaughn told them not to. He ran away to the crawl space, feeling ashamed of both himself and his actions.

Desmond started to cry and worry for him. They went to Farya and got their arm patched up with a larger bandaid. After Farya let Desmond leave her office, they went down to the crawl space to check on Vaughn.

What we see in the comic is meant to be Vaughn and Desmond’s heart to heart conversation.

Desmond is the first being to ever show Vaughn kindness and to ever say they loved him. Vaughn is the first and only lover Desmond has had that have them a sincere apology and comforted them after being hurt.

They love each other deeply and are there for each other.

As a side note: I’m happy with how the comic came out and I enjoyed the process of making it.

When a black person states that something you did was racist, chill the fuck out. Its annoying dealing with you panicking trying to dissociate yourself from racism. If you're not black, black people already assume youve said nigga or its variant at least once in your life. If they're interacting with you and bringing something up, its because they want you to stop doing that so they can still interact with you(if ur already friends)

You WILL be racist. You WILL do racist things. You have ALREADY done both. Learn and move on. There's no ideological purity you can hold on to, i promise. Proving you can take the criticism without making it a big deal and practice what you preach is better than any clean slate.
