The whole “screaming damsel in distress” thing that’s attributed to Classic Who companions has always been nonsense, but rewatching this One serial, I’m realising just how proactive and assertive Vicki is, especially compared to Steven. She’s the one making all the decisions and getting everything done, and she wins all the arguments. She takes everything in her stride while continuing to be sweet and utterly adorable.

Vicki, in my opinion, remains THE most underrated companion across the entire history of the series. 

Both in her own right, and in her relationship with the Doctor, because they’re such complete kindred spirits in the most hilarious and adorable way (the Time Lord little shit and human teenage girl, somehow almost exactly the same, it’s beautiful).

     ready? when were any of them ever ready? vicki has to laugh at the thought of being ready. still, vicki makes an effort and puts forward a suggestion.  ❝ —— can we go into the past this time? i want to see if the history books were right about ancient london. did they really have guards with those big, furry helmets ? ❞

           she had escaped it. escaped it all--- BUT THEY’RE AFTER HER.  they want her back in the camp but vicki’s determined to find him. ian chesterton. her once friend and companion.  she’d been close to giving up when she’d heard his broadcast. it had been the push she’d needed to attempt escape one last time. it had been the push she’d needed to SUCCEED.

        she finds REFUGE in a library, finding a little nook to hide in while she  rests and recovers. she’s tired, hurting and unsure where she’ll look for him next. her eyes close,  leaning heavily into the bookshelf nearest. surely they won’t find her here.

           ( surely, she will be safe for five minutes )

“Oh, I’m afraid I’ve not seen someone fitting that description for quite a while.” HOW LONG HAD IT BEEN? HOW LONG SINCE HE HAD SAID GOODBYE TO HER. He could feel the lump form in his throat before he can even consider saying something else. 

“Tell me, are these others well dressed with 60′s haircuts? Because I haven’t seen them either.” The truth burns in his throat. Ian. Barbara. That life was so long ago, it almost doesn’t feel real, an almost forgotten dream. 

“But if you like, I’ll help you find them.”

     ❝ —– yes ?  ❞      how could he possibly know details that  SPECIFIC without seeing them? there’s always the possibility that he’s being dishonest, but then again, what reason has he to lie to her? that, and he’d offered her help to FIND them.  that, and the second he’d walked in--- she’d felt she could trust him.

                     (  there’s only ever been one to make her feel that way  )

   vicki nods,   hands at her side as she takes a measured step closer to him. he looks as though he’s reminiscing --- best not pry. she doesn’t want to upset her new friend.
