I'd barely opened my eyes when you spoke to me. "You've gotta go." You told me, watching me from the doorway. You were already dressed.. How long had you been up? How long had I been asleep? "Mm, just give me a minute.." Muttering, I buried my face into the pillows on the bed. Your pillows, the ones that smelled just like you. I heard you huff, then your disappearing footsteps. Sometimes I wondered why you had to be such an ass, and why I just kept coming back to you.

Dragging myself out of the warm bed, I got dressed, slowly. Intentionally slowly, letting myself linger in the memories of yesterday night. How you touched me like I was the only thing you'd ever desired, so eager to have me. A stark contrast to now, your demeanor cold and unfazed by my company.

As I left your bedroom and stepped into the rest of the apartment, you stood there with your keys in hand, jacket and shoes already on. "I've got work, you know that." You stated, "I'm already running late, so c'mon."

when you come home late from work and they stumble to the door, their frown turning into a fond smile as they swoop you up in their arms. your tiredness melt away as they kiss your cheeks, "how was your day, baby?"

resting on your partner's lap while they try to finish their work and come to bed with you and they ask, "bored, love?" you smile, feeling their hand pat your head, "nah, i quite like watching you"

"i love you." the sun drains of color into the darkness as they trace your cheek, lying beside each other on the rooftop. you laugh, "imma throw you off the rooftop, babe" and there it was, that was your love language.

back hugging them and placing kisses on their shoulder. "i think I'm about to combust" they say, laughing.

Waking up to the sun in my eyes, a heavy sigh leaves me. It had been almost twenty years ago since I last saw you, and yet, here I was.. Dreaming of the simplest days with you. What I wouldn't give to see a live sports game right about now, despite my dislike for them.

Getting up, I left this rundown building that had been my shelter for the night. I best get on my way, staying in one place for too long would surely attract unwanted attention.

Besides, I was closing in on town. A small little miracle, the city of Jackson, supposedly a peaceful place, run by the people and not the military. Little did I know that I'd find you there, of all places.. Joel Miller, my 'first love', as some might call it.
