This factoid completely erases the contributions of Trudy and her blog Gradient Lair to the dissemination and the framework of misogynoir. She has been erased multiple times and you have the right to dislike her as a person but you cannot erase her contribution when Moya Bailey, the person who came up with the word, recognizes that the word wouldn’t have been used as often as it did without her work. Here is an essay that proves my claims: On misogynoir, citation, erasure and plagiarism that both Moya Bailey and Trudy cowrote.

Here is THE essential reading on misogynoir: Explanation of Misogynoir by Trudy. It’s actually relatively easy to read but yeah it’s long and doesn’t necessarily have fun images and fonts. What it does have is citations AND complete informations.

Also, because I’m petty, I’m going to correct a couple of things up here. The most known tropes are Jezebel, Mammy, Sapphire (Sapphire is basically the angry Black woman). Patricia Hill Collins, who is still alive, called all these tropes and stereotypes of Black women that are steeped in and come from slavery “controlling images”.

Sapphire covers both the “angry Black woman” and the “sassy Black woman” described up there. Jezebel is responsible for sexualizing little Black girls from a young age, blame their sexual assault on Black women&girls, characterize Black women&girls as sex hungry whores to categorize them as unrapeable. There is more to that, but that’s the essential. The Mammy trope is particularly relevant, with Aunt Jemima being removed from products previously bearing her face. She is basically the strong Black woman that abandons her own children to serve the white family, and is Christian, submissive, desexualized unlike Jezebel, and works all day and night.

Like, excuse me if I come off as angry and a pain in the ass, but what we’re not going to do is go aroung talking about #SayHerName and erase the intellectual contributions of living Black womanists&Black feminists.

actually there is, she has one line at the end when she says “how do you know?”

ok I just skimmed though the movie again, and here she is in the beginning, she just doesn’t say anything, and you wouldn’t guess she was a girl because they didn’t do that weird humanizing, tits and longer eyelashes thing that most movies with animals do.

i’m pretty sure that all the female coded rats are the smaller rats, which is apparently accurate to real rats. Remmy is also really small. after going though the movie I realized that there are only five rats that have actual lines. Remmy, Emile, the dad, the really big bodyguard rat, and the rat at the end. whack.
