Sooo I’m joining the follow-forever wave just because it’s a good opportunity to thank the wonderful people I’ve had the great pleasure of writing with here. These range from new faces to muses who have been with me for almost a year now, and I am thankful for each and every one of you. “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

jkbaws - My only bae. I have stated numerous times my discomfort in talking ooc but with you, I am truly comfortable. You mean as much to me as Jennie does to Jisoo. xaphun - I don’t think I will ever tire of writing with you. My muse has developed so much under Daehyun’s wing (pun intended c:) & I treasure every fuzzy/angsty/ANY interaction. ssaecularis - Senpai ;; I just ?? am convinced I’ve fallen for your syntax?? You set the most glorious bar for me and I respect and adore your threads so much. THANK YOU. kyungsoomd - Where are you B/ Regardless of when you’ll see this I want to stress how thankful I am for your patience in my changing muses. KUNG FURY VOL II : (RAUL’S STORY), PROLOGUE, FEATURING librettio *** this is a series heavily inspired by the sensational youtube short Kung Fury

The year is 2029, and the steadfast beginnings of a Neo-Idol Age has descended over South Korea like a concrete cloud. Gone, are the days of choice, genre, musical variety, creative integrity and intellectual property. Korean elements whistle to the same tune: the wind hums gentle ‘oh’s, ‘boy’s and various other English buzzwords that are embedded in catchy chorus after disturbingly catchy chorus; the raindrops cry ‘Sorry, Sorry’ if one listens closely enough; there are no lightning storms, only Electric Shocks. The ice-cream vans are forced to play a sinister rendition of ‘Ice-Cream Cake’ as they make their rounds. Popular singles from the past have replaced lullabies and children’s songs, A,B,C becomes Gee, Gee, Gee, for the next generation of girls. The only constellation that remains is Cassiopeia. One religion withstands the massacre: SMism, and Idols are the only Gods allowed.

“Is that a pickup line?” Replying with an effortlessly lighthearted vocal timbre, he paused examining a book spine, something to do with folklore, in order to hold a conversation. Being tall had its uses, reaching the top shelves in stores being one of them, allowing him to expand his selection instantly and grab really obscure finds. Truthfully, the music section of the CD, cassette and book store drew him in, something about the 80s nostalgic aesthetic spoke to him, but it was interesting browsing through everything. Shops seemed to pop out of nowhere in such a large city, Raúl could never quite discover everything. “No, I’m here to buy a book for a friend. She’s obsessed with them. Books and reading, I mean.”

▌ ｡｡｡❝ Getting tired is fun?! ❞ She ghastly repeated, eyes wider than they already were at almost every sentence he’d hurl at her. The not so subtle rejection only heightened her edgy state, and perhaps swimming was to thank for their unthinkable mutual interest. She smiled widely at this, already thrilled at the thought of submerging in waters like she was used to. The sight of a dewy nymph was fabled to drive humans insane – chaotic, even, but lucky for Raúl she had grown bored of that particular spell. Not a word more, and Astrina had wrapped her fingers around his wrist. They’d have to sneak in to the facility being it was past the hour for student practice, but she was used to this rebellion. Water was her energy after all. ❝ What is it with you and swimming, anyway? ❞ she asked curiously to the male, brow knitted against the other as she practically frolicked through the staircase. ❝ Lucky for you there’s still some gear in my locker. And before you ask why I have male shorts, they belong to a friend on the team. ❞

His love for water had always been wonderfully unconditional yet so godawful to explain. Avoiding sounding clinically mad proved virtually impossible as he rambled on about the feeling of powering through the deep blue, the slight tug and pull and resistance only great bodies of water possessed, the sweet hush, better than silence, as he stared up at the ceiling, or sky, and floated on his back. And the way the ocean tussled his hair ––with love, affection and endearing rage–– pulled him in every time. He readily compared her to a lover, in that way, and he was not blessed with articulation to voice his awe without throwing craziness into the mix. “Wait, what, do you have a pool on campus? That’s what I was going all the way to the gym for––” The possibility that he may not be welcome to use the pool on campus doesn’t even cross his mind.

“I have trunks on me, and towel to keep it all modest.” He turns to flaunt his humorously tiny Nike backpack (in his defence, he hardly has anything to put in it) before whipping back round with a smile. His body was not one to be ashamed of, but seeing as it is an integral part of his being he’d always been shy and reluctant to expose himself. When in the water it wasn’t a problem, but the build-up unnerved him.

▌ ｡｡｡Her head held high, shamelessly pointing at the lecturer with a slow reception to his humour, Jisoo allowed the more petulant version of her self shine through. In a world where friends were earned rather than inherited, she felt unsure of Raúl’s appreciation of her despite the brief history that they shared together, which surely was’t without meaning. She’d carefully mapped the pathway to the gym, dictating it in her most childish prosodic tone. Jisoo could be sarcastic when she wanted to be, and an elder human of considerable talent was no exception to her bold character. ❝ Say, what’s so fun about the gym? It’s costly and tiresome and I never understood why people do it. ❞ As someone who’s vessel was naturally healing, the event of becoming over or underweight was unprecedented. It baffled her how feeble humans can be that machinery had been built to prevent exactly this. ❝ Don’t you wanna see the library for example? Or the art department or the tennis courts? If you buy me bubbletea on the way I might even sneak you in to my little hideout. ❞

“The point of the gym is to get tired! That’s what makes it fun.” He knows she imagines her alternatives to be ‘superior’ to his initial plans, and the fact she expects a reward for discarding his passions to one side tickles him. Bubbletea is off his agenda, as is art and books, but Raúl doesn’t feel a shred of remorse. Thick and hardly refreshing whether milky or not, topped off with balls of tapioca and tons of sugar to mask the taste of green tea, he’d never been crazy for the stuff. The rush of water in between his toes feels much better to him. “I’m not one for reading. But that’s okay. I’ll pass, gladly.”

He lifts his head skyward, allowing the short gusts of wind to tease his hair in every imaginable direction. High altitudes reminded him of the beach because of the similar climate elements –– wicked winds being on of them. Chill blesses him with a patient nonchalance and he embraces his hesitancy while his nose turns a pretty pink. Surely, she’d understand a no –– not necessarily negative, not necessarily positive, just a concise answer to the questions he’d been presented with. Odd, his curiosity refuses to take a proactive role in his psyche that particular day. “I love swimming.”

Mitchell’s eyes scanned his surroundings, the place seemingly unfamiliar, yet, at the same time, he’s been there before. He was on the sidewalk, reading the various signs that were above big and small shops and supermarkets. He saw people that he’s seen before, and others he’s had yet to see. He was sure he’d see them again, because he was sure he’d pass the dreaded place again in his quest to escape it’s clutches and be on his way.

It felt like he was in a video game, not that he’s played a whole lot of them. He’s seen the type, though, which had the player trapped in a labyrinth of secrets and wonders as the wary participant struggles to break free of it’s chain and exit the maze successfully. This is how the journalist felt, to the point that even his unwavering will to hold steadfast to his course was starting to wither away. He needed to hold on to his sanity, or else he could end up making a fool of himself in public. In front of those he’s seen and those he had yet to see again.

“Excuse me… I’m kind of lost. Do you know the area well?” He asked a nearby citizen, the break in his resolve to make it on his own making him desperate enough to seek help.

“Uh, me?” He checks left and then right, before finally pressing a hand to his chest to confirm the question is directed at him personally and not another. The disbelief is slightly overstated but his emotions stem from experience; having spent a good couple of months in the country, Raúl attests to the public generally avoiding him (either the intimidating height or the ambiguous ethnic blend does it). The question itself seems out of place when purposefully used to address the only person in sight who clearly does not match South Korea’s homogenous DNA. Either the stranger is blissfully naive and clueless, or desperate, and both cries for help were substantial enough to entertain Raúl’s attention.

“...I’ll try my best to help.” He’s not exactly the strongest navigator in South Korea, opting for exploring rather than arriving on time majority of the time, however a new found determination spurs him on. He glances at his watch before nodding, and then interlaces his fingers before cracking them idly. “Where are you trying to get to?”

(♎) To those raised in incessant unbearable coincidence, stereotypical entertainment could almost be seen as comforting. The bland, traditional and habitual rituals of interpersonal mingling were often boring and airy, like an unwanted Southern drawl that never quite got to the point fast enough, but Dylan Richie enjoyed their concept: ease of access and convenience. Mini golf, the movies, a meal at any of a variety of rated restaurants; like a hamster on a short wheel, the half-breed Japanese-American let the capitalism-harbored fear he had been raised by force him into hesitance. Wouldn’t it seem weird, shady, even over engaging, for the lion-haired extrovert to ask his new friend–a total stranger, not long ago–back to his home for drinks and conversation?

The reply Raúl shot back was comforting in its overwhelming positivity. For better or for worse, the educator’s fellow Westerner looked to have completely and utterly dismissed any of his potentially shared anxieties for the sake of an absolute answer. He did want to hang out with the broad-shouldered bachelor, that was the gist of his eventually instantaneous (in retrospect) response. Wide, almond-shaped eyes quickly studied the taller’s features, chestnut orbs analyzing the thoughtful pose and gestures with ease. The prospective host’s innate counter was much less like a deer in headlights and more along the lines of a parent, willing to learn how best to act for the sake of their toddler’s psychological and physical development. Another laugh crept up on the lawyer, ripping his natural autonomy from every muscle that adorned the sweet curvature of his somewhat cherubic expression; covering the plush shape of his sizable lips with the rear of an agile wrist, the casual athlete let his chest shake in amusement before nodding his head slowly, shaking the sentiment off with the literal sway of his lazy palm. He was beginning to feel more like a living, breathing schoolgirl trope, when his mind processed his mannerisms as each moment passed. Seconds were fragile, each cluster dismissed by the minute. Well, that was embarrassing. played on repeat.

“I’m not one for movies, myself. Stereotypical Gemini stuff, I just get bored. We can definitely walk to my apartment, if you wanted a chill place that wasn’t so… stuffy, and overpopulated. I’ve got a dart board in my closet, yeah – and of course I drink!” The man chuckled, name dropping his astrological prescription without shame, what a sudden change in pride-driven demeanor. “I can teach you, and I have liquor and beer at my apartment, though I usually stick to pineapple vodka in the summer. Baileys Irish Cream is a winter sort of thing, although I always love whiskey…” The next question had an unbearably rotten connotation, but the younger had no option. Brevity and bravery, all at once. C’mon now. “What’s your sign?”

The advantages of standing tall at 189cm included absolute autonomy in the case of propositions. Formidable arm muscles, as though carved from marble, a lean but chiselled torso and powerful legs. Not that he’d willingly hurt anyone... Yet who could deny that in the face of danger, a fit heart came in handy? Agreeing to social interaction away from the public sphere was made easier without the added fear of excessive predatory vulnerability. There had been situations in his lifetime wherein he’d witnessed girls lead with their head over their heart and regret it; thankfully, his physique allowed him to execute ‘reckless’ ventures without risk of substantial harm. Few things could really be deduced by the easiness of the offer: Dylan Richie was proud of his home; Dylan Richie considered the two of them friends; Dylan Richie was understanding, and liked to compromise. Raúl didn’t doubt the significance of such a bold suggestion for a second, ergo he studied, truly, even though his answer had already been mentally confirmed. Examined the nooks and crannies of Dylan Richie’s face, actively sweetened by a wide smile. Truly examined until the tips of his own ears turned red and a quiet clearing of the throat was in order. “Sounds good to me. I like to drink socially.” Damn, straight.

“Sign?” Vague memories of his young sister fawning over various gossip magazines, sitting crosslegged in a hammock and signing out his future, flocked back to him. Back then, in his teens, the horoscopes slapped on pastel pink and blue pages connected to one another, like a book saga, rather than real separated scenarios. He felt he could be all of the signs, depending on the day, and that didn’t seem indicative of multiple personality disorder in the slightest–– He kept his conclusions to himself though, having little idea of the development of astrology in the twenty-first century or the complex science behind it. It was romantic, the notion that the stars held his destiny, and such casual romanticism enthralled him. His own faith had been questioned many a time by onlookers but he found belief never reduced a person to a less intelligent individual; if anything having a rock to believe in made people stronger. Didn’t understand the connotations of his star sign, but he pulled a name from somewhere in the back of his mind. Added in a disclaimer for extra measure. “I’m a Libra, I think. October the 10th. I don’t know what that means but, I’m sure you can tell me.”

Repackaging of the left over fast food occurred as he talked (the burger he’d devoured half of remained solidly anchored in his right hand). The quiet rustling of a brown paper bag contributed to the atmospheric noise. Pro-activeness was not necessarily triggered by an eagerness to travel to a different destination –– he packed up because his stomach was fairly full, surprisingly. A large hand swept across his stubble and after it passed over his lips it revealed a smile of muted contentment with eyes that communicated, ready when you are.

“SHOW YOU MY AWESOME?” alas, the question in which wavers suspended above their heads. lacking in an answer, he stands without an intention. without a theme (see: perplexed). the rest of the very much, alive earth is bound to their productivity. somebody somewhere; light perspiration, ghastly groans, dirt between the lined folds of their hands, and they are not saved, yet until the sky is an illuminating bruise. time is not a fool to be played with, and he is the prime sign and symptoms of procrastination; delay. though the best thing in this world for him is to continually sit unjust, plan for the now and live through an ill-fated heart of desire. his wide-brim hat remains in his hands, unworn with ash-strained strands feathering through a breeze. ahー but what appeal! when the sun kissed acquaintance proudly wears his dimples, he displays them with an uncanny resemblance as to an unsettled reassurance. jack feels at ease. safe. better put than words, quietude is his trial at comfort. this is courage speaking, “imaginably, it’d be fascinating.”

however; his nerves come without warning as they fall. see the scattering of his eyes across the room when the latter just keeps cracking, cracking and cracking his goddamn fingers, why, he ought toー

“Do thieves have a particular appearance?”

His nose wrinkles as he ponders over a question he already knows the response to; it’s somewhat of a rhetoric, and yet he feels like Jack could provide him with insightful vindication or a funny take on it. Experience answers no. It’s a broadening of the subject matter, and could be viewed as a tangent, but, thieves come in all shapes and sizes, for him. Human nature demands the race take without really asking, to be greedy, as shown in the natural self-righteous self-deemed attitude of entitlement. We are the Superior Species. The world ‘belongs’ to us, so we pollute it, we kill it, we change it. And then, we poke it and prod it when it doesn’t work like it used to. Humans don’t just inhabit, they steal, in order to survive. And, just because it is sometimes a necessary action, it does not make it any less of a travesty. It’s not often Raúl really discusses existential dilemmas, but when he does, the truth is excruciating enough to make him compelled. Compelled to share.

“I have this theory. The human beings are all born thieves. Steal time, money, the truth, hearts, resources, culture... All take things that don’t belong to them from one another. It’s in our DNA, I think.

“It’s not a question of whether you look like a thief, or not. It’s really what kind of thief you are. There are subcategories.”

▌ ｡｡｡It was far from her favourite adjective, but Jisoo was well accustomed to Raúl’s way of telling her what was okay. That she was born perfectly normal, carried herself in an endearing manner, and how her hobbies as a misfit were what set her aside as Jisoo. There were very few mortals who understood her love of literature; why the company of books were far more valuable to her than people. But as with most misfits who were introverted and weird, there were exceptions to a world that looked to marginalise quiet readers. Raúl Kita was one of them. ❝ Soooo if I stood on my hands and held my breath for three whole minutes, you wouldn’t find it weird at all? Even though we’re on a rooftop? ❞ Grinning, Jisoo performed as she had announced and allowed rubble to meet her pale hands, only to land on a backbend which lasted three quarters of a minute at most. She pouted haughtily at the elder, crossing her arms as he laughed and admired her silly efforts. How she’d come to know such a physically advantageous male, much less indulge in his kindness and the way he wasn’t like most mortals, was something Jisoo never fathomed or felt like she had deserved. ❝ Alright, alright. No need to laugh at me. But more important than my handstand, what brings you to Yonsei University? ❞

Before he could protest against potentially harmful antics on the rooftop, the conversation swiftly moved on. A victim of déjà vu, Raúl found himself in the exact same situation daily: comprehension hindered his natural ability to react quickly and keep up with conversation, and there was little he could really do but press on. Grasping the language was hard enough, playing a fill-in-the-blanks game whenever listening to a sentence in order to make sense due to gaps in his vocabulary acted as a full time occupation that left no time to complain. Piecing together a coherent reply added another layer to the cake, and another area to mess up. All he could do was smile, roll with it as the wind licked his hair, and hope to eventually improve. His eyes were soft for her, regardless, and he couldn’t help but laugh at her one-woman-show, fit in a few claps too.

“Mmn, the gym. I wanted to try it out.” Deceptively, the gym had been advertised as a primarily student haven, logically targeted to the young demographic on a budget, and yet it was still situated a fair distance away from campus –– a 15 minute brisk walk. Slightly closer to proposed student accommodation, but still a fair away from Raúl’s temporary home. An induction day meant free day out, and the regular price for a membership was exceedingly attractive, for him. His smile is mischievous, humour unchanged. “I wanted to see you too, see how you’re doing but, mostly the gym.”

“An accent like that is only known in the hills of Cali.” She couldn’t help but stick out her opinion as she shrugged and patted his back as a soft chuckle soothed out, “The waters just love you.” Grabbing a towel, she held it out towards him and watch the little children who had accidentally gunned him down with water run off after watching the taller male stand frozen for about a second, afraid he would have explode, “They mean no harm.”

“Yeah, I know. They’re just kids.” He’s completely without anger and the initial surge of surprise, unconsciously triggering adrenaline, wore off pretty quickly after he’d successfully identified his culprits. Raúl wouldn’t hurt a fly, let alone mischievous little humans. He accepts the towel with a hesitant but growing smile, wiping off his face before continuing to speak. “I’ve been told my accent is pretty Islander but yeah, I did go to college in Cali.”
