fluxer is where it's at

For pretty much a decade now, Discord has been "the place" for people to get together online and hang out. Discord was a lot of fun for a long time, it was easy for anyone to make an account and get to joining and creating servers and building communities.

However, Discord has been doing kinda downhill over the last few years when it comes to the privacy side of things. What if there was an open-source Discord? Well, there kinda is, and I have been exploring alternatives for awhile, and finally landed on the one I'm going to be using going forward for my community, Ravinia, and it's called Fluxer.

If you're into Linux, programming, music, art, writing, gaming, streaming, or just chilling out and shooting the breeze and playing games with like-minded, chill people, then Ravinia might be somewhere you'll enjoy hanging out. We originally built out the community on Discord, and now we're (re)building it on Fluxer. Feel free to join in and see how you like it! computers are fun

I discovered a fun multiplayer snake game played over SSH in your terminal. I love this kind of stuff, it really throws me back to the days when computing was personal, new to many people, and most importantly, fun! Computers are supposed to be fun, and are supposed to be yours.

If you weren't around in those days, it might not ring as true for you. But if this aesthetic is something that you want to capture on your own machines, you can! Dive into TUIs, tiling window managers, and GNU/Linux distros. You don't have to be locked into Windows and Mac, you can make your computing your very own!

nightshadeNeon: cohesion

There is something I love about cohesion. That feeling of everything going together. Almost everything I do follows the same nightshadeNeon color palette designed by my wife and I over the years. In the attached image, you can see my main website on the left side, and my Tumblr page on the right. All looking nice and cohesive together, following the same theme while conveying different ideas.

I don't have any specific plans for my Tumblr, as my website is the main place I post my writings to, but I might mirror my essays here going forward for more discovery, and just because I forgot how much I liked Tumblr. I have been away for 6 years now (time flies). But I am going to go back to using it as a platform for discovering other peoples' ideas, sharing my own, and all that fun stuff.

Pretty cool that Tumblr is now able to be posted to through Openvibe. I had almost forgotten about my old tumblr account, but think I'm going to start using it again for the first time in quite awhile. I edited the stylesheet for my tumblr page to more closely match the nightshadeNeon theme on my main website. It is looking pretty good.
