Y'all are all gonna have to hear me out on a Marauders BBC Ghosts AU.
Picture this:
Lily and James Potter, with their newborn son Harry, are trying to establish themselves in the world with as little help from James' parents as possible. (Not because they don't adore them, but because they want to make their own way and not become idle relying on other people's money).
One day, Lily gets an unexpected call; she has inherited a large estate in Surrey from her Great-Great-Uncle, Killham Hall. The place is massive, incredibly old and in need of some TLC. But it's theirs. And it's the perfect solution to their housing problem.
Upon arriving, the pair decide to turn the property into a BnB, sectioning off one wing for themselves and Harry, and the rest for public use. In the midst of planning this, Lily is attempting to shoo away a pigeon from the ledge of one of the second story windows. Something pushes her. She falls.
After very briefly dying, Lily returns to the house to discover it is absolutely FULL of ghosts. Ghosts that only she, and maybe Harry, can see.
What follows is the tale of the Potters as they navigate parenthood, relationships, fixing up the old house and, of course, dealing with their large, ragtag group of ghosts. Much like in the show itself.
And don't you worry! I've had thoughts on the ghosts too! Now obviously, if you wanted to co-opt this au and write something, you don't need to do exactly this, but my thoughts are below.
TW: Death, murder, suicide, allusions to abuse. They're ghosts. And Marauders. It's sort of part and parcel.
Remus Lupin- A caveman who had the unfortunate luck to be mauled to death by wolves on the property back before it was even established.
Pandora Rosier- A medieval woman accused of heresy and burnt at the stake. Whether she is an actual witch or not is still debated to this day, but she does give uncannily accurate prophesies...
Evan Rosier- Pandora's brother. A noble who owned the house and allowed his sister to live there out of a sense of duty. Unfortunately, when she went down, so did he and it ended with his head on a pike.
Mary Macdonald- A Georgian lady who once owned the house. She was kind to the servants and, as such, her husband assumed she was having an affair and poisoned her.
Regulus Black- A Romantic Era man, second son of the Lord Black. After being pressured to support and work for a man with ill intent, was found floating face-down in the lake. He makes people damp if they walk through him.
Sirius Black- Regulus' older brother and Heir to the Black estate. A hedonistic artist who resented his family and their ideals. After Regulus' passing, Sirius began to try and dismantle the Black empire before leaving for good. His mother slit his throat the day he tried to escape. He can be seen in mirrors and photographs.
Dorcas Meadowes- A distant descendant of the Black's during the Victorian era. Though entirely competent and clever, her parents attempted to marry her off to a horrid man. Dorcas decided she could not live like that and took a swan dive off the roof.
Marlene McKinnon- After losing most of her brothers during the second World War, Marlene chose to support the rest of her family by working in a watch-making factory set up in the old house. Rather unfortunately, the paint used for the watch faces was infused with radium, and one shift Marlene never made it home. She sets off geiger counters and EMF devices.
Peter Pettigrew- Was a scout leader during the 1960's, though always dreamed of greatness. During a demonstration with his troupe, one of them shot an arrow through his neck accidentally. Peter died on scene and joined the ranks of the other ghosts.
And finally;
Barty Crouch Junior- The disgraced son of a famous Tory politician in the 90's, Barty spent his days finding as many ways to rebel as possible. Including, but not limited to, excessive alcohol, designer drugs, parties at fancy houses and shagging everything with a pulse. This combination finally did him in during a rave at Killham Hall when he got caught literally with his pants around his ankles and enough cocaine in his system to kill a small elephant. He has the ability to touch the living and their things. Wonder who pushed Lily earlier?
Iām sorry but James would be one of those highlighter kids from elementary/middle school who exclusively listened to Imagine Dragons and ripped beyblades at recess.
i love the mechanic!Sirius trope just as much as the next person here but have you ever considered mechanic!Marlene?
like, Marlene is so so competent and has a reputation of being the best car mechanic in town, but the moment Dorcas walks in with her classic car that she want to get restored, Marlene keeps dropping screws and tripping over car jacks
