Is there any word that’s had a wilder evolutionary path than “gothic”?
Seriously, it went from meaning this:
to this:
to this:
and finally ended up as this:
You go you funky word, keep on trucking.
You shouldn’t be treating nb people like the secret sexy 3rd gender. Nb people don’t look like a mash of male and female, they’re not sexy androgynous twinks
white skinny androgynous nb people reblogging this and saying shit like “Well this is what I look like! So I feel represented!” Are literally part of the problem. I’m not saying that no nb people are white/skinny/andro, I’m saying that those are the only type of nb bodies that get represented
its nice, isnt it, when nonbinary people are visibly distinct from binary people? its easy, isnt it? you can remember to use “they” for people who have no visible breasts or beards, right? no need to challenge the notion of male vs female if nonbinary people have their own look, isnt that right?
its time to step the fuck up and really understand that nonbinary looks like anybody. nonbinary looks like you. nonbinary looks like your family and friends and it looks like the strangers who you thoughtlessly call “he” or “she” because of their appearance.
really supporting nonbinary people means understanding that theres no visual tell - you wont recognise all of us as nonbinary on sight. you have to actually LISTEN to us. you have to BELIEVE us. and it means challenging your assumptions about gender, starting with the assumption that youre an ally to trans people while youre still doing puerile shit like gendering body parts and clothes.
NONBINARY LOOKS LIKE ANYBODY. ANY BODY CAN BE NONBINARY.

Mass shooter vs. Mentally ill
I'm already seeing it. Mass shooter=Mentally ill. You can fuck right off if you believe that. The percentage of mass shooters who were found to be clinically mentally ill, is very small in comparison to the percentage of those who were not. But the media LOVES this shit. They bandy that equation around in the wake of every, single, shooting. Anne Coulter: "Guns don't kill people, mentally ill people do." And we suck it up like mother's milk because it makes us feel safer to do so. Because we refuse to see mental illness unless it LOOKS like Charles fucking Manson. It never occurs to us that our soccer mom neighbor whose kid comes to our kids birthday parties, might be mentally ill. She doesn't LOOK mentally ill. She acts so "normal". It never occurs to us that the guy who waves to us every morning and he leaves for work, might be mentally ill, because he's got a good job and a nice house. And what about the other side. That shabby looking guy who walks around downtown, asking for smokes? Yeah, he couldn't possibly be a regular guy just down on his luck, or homeless, or...oh wait, if he's homeless, he MUST be mentally ill because all homeless people are, right? We refuse to face the fact that are just some evil fucks in the world. It makes us uncomfortable to even consider the notion. And why is that? Because if we do that, then we have to take some fucking responsibility for the fact that our gun laws are shit. We have to take PERSONAL responsibility for the fact that its so goddamned easy to get a gun in Las Vegas that you don't even have to register anything that isn't an assault rifle. We would have to force our politicians to take responsibility for caving to the NRA over and over and over again in not working and voting for gun laws that do anything but look good on paper. So we blame it on the mentally ill. Because it's easy. I'm mentally ill. Stop stigmatizing me. Stop blaming mental illness as the sole cause of gun violence and take some goddamned responsibility. Seriously, fuck you.
