In relation to this post, perhaps an itty bitty thing from the Solunian Twins AU
The early morning sunrays hit Cherri in the back of her head as she skipped down to the boat of the travelling merchant. Automatically, she began singing a tune to herself under her breath. “When the sun comes up it warms our hearts, warms our souls and warms our kingdom.”
The familiar words tugged on her lips with the memories they brought. Her father could rarely help himself when it came to singing a tune, even when the song didn’t yet exist, and so many had been created and forgotten throughout her childhood. This one had stuck around though. It went back as far as she could remember, always playing in the back of her mind and lifting her spirits.
She greeted the merchant politely before beginning the trades. The tune returned as she browsed the options. “When the sun comes up we’ll see the arts, see our goals and see our wisdom. When the moon comes up—”
When Cherri turned around, her heart lunged into her throat, and she almost dropped her new bag of wood.
The lion knight from the Blue Kingdom was waiting a few metres behind her, dark eyes staring blankly at her through the golden helmet.
He spoke before she could get a word in. “Where is that song from?”
She hesitated. “My childhood. Father sang it to me.”
It was hard to get a read on a man who always wore a helmet, but a slight curiosity in his voice sneaked through. And Cherri had never minded talking about her father, so she decided to share.
“If I tell you, you have to clap along,” she requested.
She raised her chin, sizing him up, and awaited his reaction. Eventually his shoulders fell slightly, and she took it as acceptance. Cherri took the lead, and he followed moments later, metallic gloves matching the rhythm she set.
Her father had a habit of randomly bursting into song at joyous occasions, but Cherri didn’t share his bravery in that regard, so she spoke the lyrics rather than singing them. “When the sun comes up it warms our hearts, warms our souls and warms our kingdom.”
The first word of the triple repeat was always extended, in the case of the first line, it was the word 'warms'. Each line also had a short break in between. The silence was filled with rhythmic clapping or an instrument if her father had one at hand.
Cherri continued, and though she hadn’t meant to sing, the tune wanted to be sung. “When the sun comes up we’ll see the arts, see our goals and see our wisdom. When the moon comes up it brings our nights, brings our stars and brings our dark. When the moon comes up we’ll see the knights, see our scars and see our mark.”
When she was done, Owain nodded shortly. “Thank you.”
He walked past her to reach the merchant and undertake his own shopping.
With a frown on her face, Cherri walked back to the Red Kingdom.
