reincarnation story about being reincarnated as a little girl (side character) who dies before the story begins and she calls her father's male assistant mom and one day they go on a outing and she ask for specific flowers for her grave. She goes into a big house thing were she’s playing a game with other kids to look for their parents something goes wrong and everyone evacuates expect her she goes into like a weird alternate reality were she meets this scary guy with the magical powers that kills these big spirits. The friend she saved keeps going to her house to train her because she’s physically weak. She fainted when they first met.

Will was subconsciously controlling the demogorgon the whole time. Mike was right.

El says there are too many soldiers and Hopper can't take them all. This immediately transitions into Will's demo vision.

The demogorgon only kills the soliders. We think it's about to get Hopper, but it kills the driver instead. It totally ignores Hopper.

Will sent the demogorgon after the soldiers to protect him.

When the car crashes and Hopper gets flung, Will falls to the ground. He was connected to Hopper too.

So it wasn't proximity based, it was based in love and protection.

Will's vision stops once it starts to head towards the Wheeler house. That's not what he wanted. That was when Vecna took over.

The same thing happened at the military base. When one of the soldiers hit Derek, Will's protective instinct took over and caused him to send the demogorgon after the soldiers. Once again, Will's loved ones were completely ignored in this sequence.

Both instances, they only start to go after the people Will cares about once he wakes up and is no longer in control. It wasn't plot armor, it was Will's protection.
