Child Minding | Jasmine & Cate
Watching as the young child looked at the colors with large eyes, a smile stayed against Jasmines face. The littlest things brought nothing but joy to the little girl. Her fingers going through the tens of colors, trying to pick out the best of the best from the collection. Jasmine’s brown eyes watched as Cate picked out a purple and a blue. Like the ocean. That little statement made her heart melt. Every person within Panem started out innocent, with the while world in front of them. It was not until they began to see the reality of their life to which the innocents died.
Opening the two soft colors, Jasmine pulled out a small pink brush. “Close your eyes.” She spoke softly as she patted the purple power onto Cate’s lids carefully before adding a bit of blue - like the ocean. “Take a look.” Jasmine spoke softly as she picked Cate up so she could stand on the counter to look in the giant mirror. The mentors fingers combed through the back of Cate’s hair before realizing something. “Wait here.” She spoke and quickly ventured into her room.
Opening her small bedside table, she pulled out a small clip from her district. Pearls and silver. It was small, simple, but one of a kind. The mentor walked back into the bathroom, pulling Cate’s hair back and clipping the hair clip into her blonde hair. “You look just like a mermaid.” She spoke softly.
The feeling of the brush going over her eyelids softly; Cate figured that that was one of the best feelings in the whole world, right up at the top of the list with one of Daddy's super big hugs! It was like butterfly kisses or maybe kittens or puppies- something very soft and lovely. Cate loved it. Her eyes opened slowly, and she blinked a few times, adjusting once again to the light.
She gasped with delight as her reflection showed her the beautiful makeup, tourmaline eyes shining with glee. "Its so pretty," Cate whispered, leaning closer to the mirror but still keeping her hand tight on Jasmine's shoulder. She didn't want to fall. "Like the ocean." Cate liked it when Jasmine combed her long blonde hair through her fingers, it was relaxing and she thought it could even make her go to sleep. "I wait," she confirmed, entranced by the makeup.
When Jasmine came back, she was amazed by the pretty thing, but she didn't know what it was. There were shiny and beautiful though. As her hair was pulled back, she beamed at her reflection, at Jasmine's reflection. "Like a mermaid? You think so? Wow!" Her little hands lightly touched the clip, it was smooth but bumpy at the same time. "I wanna go swimming like a mermaid!"

Happy Christmas everyone! I hope your day is filled with friends, family and fun! I know this is early for most of you, but I just opened up my stocking presents (its 3am) and I'm too excited to go back to sleep. (Santa has drunk all the beer we left out so if a sleigh crashes into your ceiling you know who to blame.) So here's me getting christmassy. And if you don't celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a fantastic winter/summer break to spend with your family and friends. I am very blessed to have such wonderful friends all the way around the world, and that's all I really need this Christmas!
Lots of love, Rhymer xxxxxx
Nonsensical Chatter | Ray & Burton
The rest of the world had moved on, and once again Burton knew that he had to find sponsors. Whilst Harper and Ryan had made a strong impression on the Capitol during the Chariot parade, he was certain that that alone wouldn’t make the cut amongst the sponsors. The odds on the betting boards for both of the District 6 Tributes had been better than expected, but were still miles away from the top of the pack. Harper and Ryan could still be sold to sponsors as dark horses - a surprise bet, an early bird sponsor. The lobby would be the best place to find sponsors, and Burton went down and waited.
And there, sat with a luminously pink lady was Ray Rivet - the District 3 mentor had survived the year out, and seemed brighter than usual. Something in his outlook had changed, he assumed - Ray seemed chirpier, although he still seemed a little pained at the thought of being in such close proximity to a Capitol citizen. Burton smirked to himself before going over to them and tapping them on the shoulders.
“Ah, Aelia!” He feigned surprise at seeing her (although she sank her claws into any mentor that passed her way during the Games) and smiled. “What a surprise - still sponsoring after all these years!”
“Oh darling, of course I am!” Her laugh sounded like birds squeaking, and she gestured across the table towards Ray. “Am I interfering with the competition here, Burtie?”
Burton shook his head and laughed. “Ray here? Oh no Aelia, he’s just a good friend of mine. And besides - these days the outlier Districts keep to themselves. Nowhere near as much bad blood as with the Careers.” It was a terrible pun, sure. But he had to make a sense of sickening humour seem believable. “How about I join you and Ray for a little chat about our Tributes? Sound like a plan?”
Burton was a very welcome sight, Ray considered him much more appropriate company compared to the woman who could almost be seen as a hazard warning due to her bright colours. "Burton!" Ray greeted his friend with a bright smile and a firm handshake, his eyes widening slightly as he internally screamed save me.
He laughed along jovially as the initial jokes were made, Aelia's laugh like fingernails going down a chalkboard. "Oh no, there's no competition here. I would be happy for Burton to join us." The woman looked as though she might positively burst with excitement. Ray could see her eyes flickering around, trying to find someone she knew, probably. Wanting to brag about not one, but two victors trying to vie for her attention. At the same time.
Refraining from rolling his eyes, the man clicked twice and soon a tray of drinks was placed on their table. "So!" Aelia beamed, picking up some fancy drink that was a bright yellow. It clashed awfully with her hair. "Ray, honey, tell me about your tributes. What can they do that others can't?"
He had prepared for this. "Eleanora, well, she likes to be called Elle, she is beautiful. So sweet and kind, she has the most genuine personality! She is a teacher back home, so obviously she would be very intelligent and good with all sorts of people. That could always be used to make allies, or false friends in the arena. I believe, if she won, she would be a marvelous victor. Her personality is one in a million, she could make such a great impact on the next round of tributes."
"And the boy?"
"Gabriel. Gabriel is..." Awful. Rude. He electrocuted my daughter. He is far too egotistical, and that could get him killed. ".... Confident. Very, very clever, able to fix wires and such quicker than you could blink." Ray used to be like that. Before the arena. "He is willing to do whatever it takes to come home." But God, Ray did not want him to come home. "I believe he is going to make quite a strong mark on this year's games."
Child Minding | Jasmine & Cate
Jasmine smiled as her hand was pulled to her bathroom along with the three year old child. “Fish of all shapes and sizes. Fish that look like stars, fish you can ride on, all the way to as small as your finger tip!” Jasmine poked Cate’s finger tip with a wink. Seeing the light and sparkle within her eyes, the love in her heart, Jasmine could not help but let a small smile lift through her body and out of her lips.
Picking Cate up and setting her on the counter of the bathroom, Jasmine opened the makeup box, revealing countless makeup items. From lipsticks, to foundations, to eyeliners and shadows. All colors and only the best materials. It would be extremely rare for a person even in One to have this type of makeup. Did Jasmine use it however? Never. Most, if not all, were unused. Opening the eye shadow drawer, Jasmine looked over at Cate. “Pick out your colors Catey-bug.” She said softly as she pulled out the red lipstick, the blush and even beautiful clips for her hair.
Looking in the mirror at herself, it was the first time she had actually looked at herself in almost two days. Her eyes tired, her body sick looking and her eyes tired. Even her hair lost this shine. How did she let herself fall this far?
Cate squirmed excitedly on the edge of the bench. Could there really be fish as big as her? Fish she could ride on? Imaging herself riding on a fish like how some people rode on horses made her laugh. But she couldn't ride on a fish, not unless she could breath underwater. Perhaps one day her daddy would let her have gills, he could buy them with his money and then she could breathe underwater. That would be very fun. And then she could live with the fishies!
Pick out your colors Catey-bug.
Her azure eyes lit up with delight as she was shown a pallet of rainbow colours, like her pencils. Cate's little brain worked furiously as she tried to narrow it down to two colours, caught up in what may be the biggest decision of her life so far. Did she go pink and purple? Or purple and blue? What about green and blue? Or there was always yellow and red too, like the sun. Or silver, like the moon. It was very difficult.
"Ummmmmm...." Cate's brow creased further still, her tongue poking slightly out of the side of her mouth in frustration. "Purple and...." Purple and what? Blue? Silver? Red? No, not red. They wouldn't match. And if there was anything Cate knew about, it was colours that did and did not match. "Purple and blue!" She finally concluded, nodding. "Like the ocean."
