“No father to kill, no family to hate, no milieu to reject: great Oedipal frustration.” I think that the author express Ronald's opinion well with this quote.

Rereading: Camera Lucida by Roland Bares

1. Who seems to care about Roland Barthes and Camera Lucida? What is the context, platform of discussion, field of expertise, or profession that Camera Lucida is being associated with? / Who would be writing these other papers or writings?

Brian Dillon seems to care about Roland Barthes ad Camera Lucida. The text is in a story telling article form. Its little background story about Roland’s life. People who do book reviews and interest in photography would read and write these other papers.

“It exists only for me. For you, it would be nothing but an indifferent picture.” The writer of this article barely use any citing. He tries to summarize what the book is about. He also talks about his idea of Roland’s perspective in this review. Such as the mind of relating death and live, love and memories.

Assignment ten pictures of everything for a story Due 2/19

For this last part of reading, I think the writer struggles with the identity that identify with the photography. He talks about how photographs give little truth but "truth" about certain people, and object. He uses family figures to describe how people can look similar with different photo(or in certain photographs with certain angle). There are more photos at the end of the photo for almost every small chapters, they are mostly about human figures. They represent the word "identity" because we can mostly identify who they are if we know who they are. I do agree with the writer that the angles and subject matter in the photographs do give out identity for information. I also agree that sometimes photographs of family members can be look similar, due to the time passed, people have changed. It's hard to tell the identity anymore with the changes.

As the author mentioned, the word studium and punctum both describe the time, and they are both related to death, either the object or the thing that the photograph is going to die or already die. I think that the author sees death as end of being “alive”, which is represent the motion, movement in the photographs. I feel the same way because that dead represent the end of something, and there is always an end to something. Photographs can capture a moment, but can’t stop time.

For this part of the book, I realize that the writer's mother has lots of influence on his son due to her death. He uses photographs to describe how photos can not replace his mother. He also describe photographs as history, as a time travel back to the old time. To realize history, we have to put ourself forward and look back. The photographs are not what the object they are representing, but they are objects that they once been there for a time, the photographs borrow the object for that time of seconds, and capture it as a part of history.
