What most call “Power Exchange” in the kink/BDSM context usually refers to conscious, explicit, and consensual dynamics where the exchange of power is intentional, negotiated, and often formalized.. and I am sorry to say has existed in the vanilla (non-kink) world much longer then the term kink has existed. Interesting enough for those who don't know it emerged in the mid-to-late 1900s term popularized by sexual liberation movement... but power exchange has been a key component to most successful marriages. Long before someone decided, they needed a sexual liberation movement.
