Why I got banned as a volunteer by Creation
Hello everyone, first let me introduce myself, my name is Sandra Paola I’m the administrator of the Supernatural Birthday projects on Facebook and since 2011 I have been organizing multiple projects both to celebrate the guys birthdays as for special occasions like thanksgiving birth announcements and even the 200th and 250th episode. These projects have vary from a simple journal or banner to in recent years to include custom gifts and donations to different charity organizations.
Now that you know who I’m, let me tell you all a story of why I got banned from Creation as a volunteer. I know this happened over a year ago but I tried to just let it go and just move on and because I still feel high respect for Adam, Gary and most of the company employees, and I did hoped that if I somehow manage to make it to another event even as a fan that I will still be welcome; but after a recent communication I realized I’m not welcome anymore and that for me to expend the large amount of money they sell for to just have a bad experience is really not worth it.
So now I decided to tell my story, no reason to keep quiet anymore, So the reason I got banned is as simple as me giving Jared a birthday gift from his fans at the Nerd HQ panel, this is something that had been planned and approved by my contact who work as the press manager for this organization who even told me once the panels were announce to go ahead and tell the fans what was happening.
Let’s now fast forward first day of Nerd HQ 2016 first thing in the morning I stopped by their location to get my press pass and ask for my contact, who then took me to make the donation in Jared’s honor going to Operation Smile; here is when I realized I forgotten the certificate with the donation amount, but my contact offer me to print one for me and to have it ready on Sunday, to me that was ok and after that I left to work on my coverage of the events and just believe everything was ready and done.
Then Saturday comes and while I‘m getting ready to spend the night on line for Hall H I got a message via Facebook messenger asking me to please not to give Jared the donation that there were other ways more appropriates for me to do it. At this I replied that the donation had actually been done and that all I was doing a was giving Jared a certificate and a few items, to which I was ask not to do it and that this came from someone above the person asking. I felt really devastated but I do have a lot a respect for this person so I agree not to do it. Sunday came and once I arrived to the Nerd HQ building I procced to the press registration desk where a familiar face welcome me, this volunteer is someone I knew from Creation as one of their talent handlers she ask me to come to her to do my check in and then follow up “with were you contacted and do you understand what is happening,” I explained that yes I was contacted but no I didn’t really knew the reasons, she then tell me that everything is because the livestream company and how they didn’t want the panels to be used to give gifts to the talent to this I explained that I understood and ask for my contact to which I’m inform he is in lunch and won’t be back for a while, after I finished my registration and moved to the waiting area (next to registration) and texted my contact but to my surprise I hadn’t even finish sending my message when he came over to me, at first he apologized and ask if he could arrange a private M&G with Jared if that was ok with me, what I answer of course a was okay. He continues to go back and forth between backstage and the waiting area, during this time we were guide to the panel room and got ready for it. After the first panel ended I went to the waiting area where I can see now there are 3 Creation handlers/volunteers and one of their employees all seating there but I had no time to think about it especially when my contact came and told me the M&G was a no go. Let me tell you a something the first part of this conversation was in the waiting area but as we started to talk about the gift we moved to a more private location, where my contact ask to see what was in the back pack and even offer to give it to Jared to what I declined and told him I will just ship it to him once I got home, that really wasn’t that big of a deal, that what really was hurting me was all the fans waiting to watch him getting it, but that they will understand. After this he remembered the water he offer me early and told me that he will be right back that he was going to try something else, no longer after he came back with a bottle of water and told me to stand by; after this he went back stage and we were guide back to the panel room where I see him at the front of the room talking and dealing with stuff, it’s at this time I realized or believe nothing else was going to happen so I just took my seat put the back pack between my legs and allow my heart to break, knowing there was nothing else to be done.
Then Is half way through the second panel I was surprise when I see he is standing is right by me, giving me the certificate with the donation amount and told me to just raise my hand that I will be selected, I told him not to worried that I didn’t wanted to get anyone in trouble, but he insisted that no one was in trouble and to just do I’m told and that if I didn’t do it for me to do it for the fans. After he left I continue to have my doubts but then the volunteer and security person next to me told to just do it that if he said a was ok a was ok and that he was high enough in the ranks to know, so guess what I did as I was told and raised my hand; after a few turns pass I send a message telling him that I hadn’t been pick and I was going to stop, to which he replied not to that that and that Zac was going to pick me to just keep raising my hand and just like that I was selected and what happened next you all saw it.
After the panel was done and I was leaving the building I saw my contact, he was talking to someone else but as soon as he saw me he call me over and told me I did a great job and that I didn’t need to worried that everything was a misunderstanding created by an ears dropping volunteer that heard when he ask his assistant to create the certificate and somehow had contact someone outside whom them contacted them and told them that neither of the guys like to get gifts in public but that he had confirm with them and that a was ok, that I wasn’t in any type of trouble and that Jared and Zac were really grateful for the donation, that they all had enjoy some of the candies and that Jared loved his gift.
To be honest I believe this was the end of it but I was mistaken and when I was on my way to the airport that evening I got a new message on Facebook form the same person that had contact me on Saturday telling me they were disappointed that even after I promise not to give Jared the gift I still went ahead and did it. I explain what I was told by my contact to do, but this person then told me this is not what management had told them, I explained in detailed what happened and the reply I got was “ok, have a good night” that to me was the end of it.
Now fast forward December last year I’m planning my conventions for this year but to my surprise I’m told my name is not on any lists but that they will follow up with me. A week later I get an email were I’m told that by request of someone outside Creation I am not longer welcome as a volunteer or as press (something I never did with creation) but that I can go as a fan (like I can afford it) and then proceed to explain the reason why I was been banned which is that during Nerd HQ I was ask not to give Jared his gift but even after I was told a private M&G couldn’t happen I still went ahead and did it. So let’s see how many notice that this is just the portion of the conversation that happen in front of the Creation employee and volunteers and is missing the points were I offer to ship the package or even that I didn’t had the certificate until my contact gave it to me in the middle of the panel or that every single people seating on that waiting room from creation including the one that check me in an told me the false information, all have the contact information of the person that contact me on Facebook.
Now as I’m finishing this long story I want to make it clear that I don’t believe anyone other than the people related to creation are the ones to blame, that the person that contact me on Facebook was just a tool for these people, and that now that I realized that no matter how hard I dream I can’t neither afford it or I’m welcome to another Creation event so why to keep this quiet, why to keep promoting and defending those that actually hurt me.
Please know that I’m really not expecting anything from this post and I am just doing it to close a very painful chapter of my life and that no matter what I will always be here to plan, organized and help with anything related to Jared, Jensen and the cast and crew of the show.
