Despite her loud, irritated sigh, and her refusal to physically acknowledge the woman’s presence beside her, she does decide to answer her question. “I am part of a clan, but I avoid the rest of it as much as possible. You want to know more, try the red mutant turtle. Pretty sure he’s suppose to be the leader or some shit.”

“Why be a part of one if you hate and avoid them?” Rayna couldn’t help but ask, she guessed it could be a survival thing, if you’re part of a clan you’re less likely to be picked off. In hindsight maybe she should have tried to be part of a pack, but the thought of it just made her skin crawl, she was much better being alone, or well- she guessed that wasn’t even true now. “Raphael? Yeah, he’s not on my watch list right now, I’m only interested in those who are newly turned.”

“They don’t know. No one knows. No one that cares anyways.” Elisa said, picking at her fingernails. Only Beau knew because he was there, that much she remembered. But her family and friends? They probably thought she was dead…well let’s face it, she technically was. “I don’t want to join any Praetor. I just want to wake up from this awful nightmare and find myself in my bed in the Institute.”

Rayna could understand the denial, she had faced it too and it was hard to swallow when you were first turned, she was pretty sure she was in the exact same shoes as Elisa and she knew that she too refused any and all help. “I wish it were that easy, I do-.. And I have to respect your decision so if you don’t want the Praetor’s help I’ll walk away. But -.. I really think you should take it, things can get much worse if you’re alone with no one on your side.”

“Hey. I’m learning. Simon is teaching me all about this light sword thingy.” He rolled his eyes. “You do realize in today’s political climate that’d probably get you attacked right?”

“Lightsabers.” She corrected the other, “But I guess Star Wars is a good place to start, kind of surprised you’re able to put up with Simon enough for him to inflict this wisdom onto you though, you’re a bigger man then what you used to be.” She teased, knowing the other had quite the distaste for the mundane turned vampire when he first met him. “I think I can hold my own, you know you make excuses makes it sound like you’re chicken- you do realise that, right?”

“You’d better because, honey, that’s all you’re getting.” He winked at her, his smile playful. “Eh. Nothing awesome. Got cornered by a greater demon under prepared. Took a hit. Luckily my sister was able to take it out and get my sorry ass back the Institute.” He absentmindedly rubbed at his side, a phantom pain. “Well, I mean, you were, like, disowned .Turned into a werewolf. If I’d have been you I’d have killed myself the second I turned.”

“And here I thought with my charming words and my wonderful smile I’d get more, clearly I’m losing my touch.” Rayna winced at the others story because she knew that must have hurt like a bitch, “And you live to tell the tale, that’s pretty impressive. Though I think I’m more impressed at your sister for taking out a greater demon on her own. Kudos to her.” Rayna’s smile became a little tight at the others words, but she knew he didn’t mean any harm by them. “Well I’m pretty sure that’s what they would have wanted me to do and I won’t lie- I was in a pretty dark slump for a while, but it’s not like I don’t have purpose anymore. I’ve recently joined the praetor and I still try and help you guy’s where I can, it’s not the Citadel and I don’t have my runes or my family, but I came to learn this isn’t the be all to end all.”

Beau opened his eyes just enough to register who was speaking to him. Not a threat. But not exactly a best buddy either. “Fine. But don’t get pissed if I leave you in the dust.” He adjusted again, sinking into a simpler stance and preparing to start a simplistic routine. “Follow my lead. Find your center of balance and ground yourself there.”

“Can you leave someone in the dust when tai chi is involved, it’s not exactly fast moving?” She questioned, an eyebrow raised at the other as she gave him a doubtful look. “Okay-... looks doable.” She commented, looking at the other and trying to copy his stance, wobbling a little on her feet before she found her balance.

“Am I supposed to know who James Dean is?” Jace asked, shooting Rayna an exasperated look. He didn’t want her here but at least she was distracting him from his thoughts for now. “And you’re going to take the fall for when we get caught right? Because I won’t.”

“I’d say yes, but I know your pop culture references are a little rusty so I’ll let you off.” Because she knew that most Shadowhunters didn’t get involved with what the mundanes found interesting, they were simply focused on making sure they didn’t end up dead. “Yes, I’ll take the fall and say that I saw you and felt the overwhelming urge to hit you. It’s not like I’ll be telling a lie.”

“Yeah. No amount of money could get me to do that so you’re on your own here.” He smirked and rolled his eyes, not even entertaining the thought. “Exactly why I am out here, wandering around, lost. Spent enough time in the infirmary to last me a life time. Not gonna put myself there again cause I decided I’d try this phasing through walls things.” He laughed. “Wayfelle? I mean…You’re Rayna? I’m surprised I’m actually getting to talk to you honestly.”

“And here I was thinking you’d just do it for free, I guess I’ll just have to entertain myself with your failed attempt at a bark then.” Because she should know how to bark by now, though she was pretty sure she had never done so before. Growl. Yes. Bark. No. “You’d be a bit of an idiot to think that you were able to do that so seamlessly, though I am intrigued to know why you’ve been in the infirmary for so long? Lot’s of battle wounds?” She couldn’t help but ask, when the other repeated her surname she nodded and then again when he spoke her first, “That’s me and as for the you being surprised to actually get to talk to me, I have to ask- why is that?”

Beau drug his left foot back towards him, stretching out his arms as he did so on a fluid motion that echoed how long he’d been doing this exact movement. He was doing a simpler routine, something a passing mundane wouldn’t have thought ridiculously impossible. He hadn’t felt like activating his rune this morning. He was just a heavily tattooed dude doing tai chi in the park, not entirely abnormal. He had no intention of acknowledging the footsteps that paused near him but it slipped out anyways. “No. I’m not going to teach you.”

“Oh come on, it looks so cool and I promise not to threaten to knock you over this time. I’ll be good, I swear.”

“What gave it away?” He scoffed, putting his hands behind his head. “We’re going to spar…in the middle of the park? Seems like a great idea. Totally down for that.” He didn’t move from the bench.

“You’re more sullen then normal, keep it up and you could be in a competition to be the next James Dean lookalike.” He told the other, glaring at the other and his words. “Yes. We are. The park is empty and given the time of day it is, I don’t think we’re going to get many passerby’s. Now get up before I make you get up.”

“Arf. Arf. Happy?” He stuck his tongue out at her, mildly amused by her. “Oh. No. I can feel it calling. But so far it’s asked me to walk through at least three buildings and as cool as that would be I am not a fan of drawing attention to myself.” He laughed. “I’m sure you have. We’re prolific in the shadow world to tell you the truth. Between me and my brother we’re like…modern legends or some shit, right?”

“Would be happier with you on all fours, wagging your tail, but that’ll do.” She grinned, because she didn’t expect him to humour her and yet he did. “I mean you could try but I think all you would accomplish is a broken collarbone, you can’t just pass through things, you’re not a ghost.” Rayna chuckled a little before humming, “I know a thing or two about being modern legends, or not so modern I guess. I’m a Wayfelle- or the disgraced Wayfelle as I’ve heard some people call me.”

Diana barely glanced up as she worked on fixing up a second cocktail for the woman that was walking this way. “I was tired of the mindless, repetitive chatter these mundanes think passes for a scintillating conversation.” She slid the finished drink across the bar towards a vacant stool across from where she stood and gestured for the woman to sit.

“Well I guess this is one way to stop all that, you could have just cast a silencing spell. If that’s a thing-.. maybe I’ve been watching too much Harry Potter.” Because the worlds seemed to meld together when she lost herself into binge watching any sort of fantasy film or show. “This is something Shadowhunters would probably frown upon though, you do realise that, right? If one comes in here and you might be toast.”

“There….that is much better without all of that incessant chatter.” Diana relished the quiet state of things for a brief moment before walking behind the bar and fixing herself a drink. She had only managed to take a sip when she heard a rustling among the quiet. “Are you planning on ruining my nice quiet evening?” She asked the owner of the footsteps.

Rayna was standing at the entrance to the bar when she had seen all the bodies drop, she rushed over to one of them, feeling their pulse in their neck and breathing out a sigh of relief when she felt a pulse. Standing she spotted a brunette who was making herself a drink and guessed she was the culprit of all of this, “Well that’s a new trick, never seen anyone do that before.” She commented, stepping over the bodies as she made her way over to her. “Someone’s clearly had enough of mundanes for one day.”

“Says the mad woman.” Hallie muttered, but otherwise didn’t retort, her eyes still somewhat wide, almost like a doe caught in headlights. Her words definitely peaked her interest, but not enough to have her actually question them. The woman didn’t seem to be a Shadowhunter, but rather a werewolf, if her scent was of any indication, although Hallie was still getting the hang of that. Still, she supposed that everyone had to learn that lesson eventually, regardless of motive. “Yeah, well, have fun with that.” She eventually replied, her voice clearly void of interest despite having initially posed the question, before turning to leave the scene.

“Fair point.” Rayna commented, feeling a little out of breath as she looked at the other, watching as she started to leave before falling in step beside her. “You didn’t know them did you? They were a vamp, fledgling- part of your clan? If you have one that is.”

New York City was foreign to Hallie. She’d never visited when she was alive, and if she had as a subjugate then she didn’t remember, but seeing as she was stuck here for God knows how long, she thought that she may as well get to know the place. A plan that soon went awry, as a woman - who she was fairly sure was a werewolf, if her scent was anything to go by - ran straight into her, knocking her over in the process. “That was definitely your fault.” She growled, as she stood back up, brushing the dirt off of herself and her clothes as she did. “The fuck were you doing, anyway?” She couldn’t help but ask, following her gaze only to stare down an empty street.

“Maybe, or I could blame your terrible survival skills. If a mad woman is running full speed at you then you should probably step out of the way.” She told the other, about to offer to help her up before the other was already on her feet, brushing the dirt off her clothes. Rayna pointed down the street, the downworlder she had been chasing out of sight which caused her to curse under her breath, “Chasing someone down, I tried to play nice and they decided to run. I need to learn to just play dirty from the get go if I’m going to accomplish anything.”

Jace rolled his head to the side and leveled a blank stare at her. “Both. Depends on what kind of mood I’m in when they poke me.” He rolled his head back and closed his eyes. “Well aren’t you the smart cookie of the evening?”

“Damn boy, you are in a bad mood today.” Rayna pointed out, looking at the other and let out a small huff. She looked around them and found the park to be pretty empty, she nudged the other hard and started to remove her jacket. “Come on, Lightwood. Get up.” She demanded, throwing her jacket on the bench, working on tying her hair up. “You’re not going to lie there and mope, we’re going to spar.”

“You do realize you’ve insulted me and I’m now obligated to prove that I  can, in fact, be quite scary.” He smirked at her, a playful edge to it. “Might have? I’m going to be honest here. I totally got lucky. New York is huge and if I’d wandered the wrong direction I might very not be here right now.” A booming laugh. “Pleasure to meet you Ms. Wayfelle. I’m Thorin Belefleur. Pleasure to meet you!”

“You can prove it to me all you like, Rover. I’m still going to see puppy dog.” She continued to tease, because the guy was cute and she could never picture him as someone who would spark terror into her life. “I’ve always seen Shadowhunters as having an internal gps when it comes to finding the Institute, whether you be new or not. It’s like it calls to you, or maybe that’s just me.” Rayna let out a small noise when the other told her his name, “Ah Belefleur, I’ve heard of your family before. You’re pretty well known in the Shadowhunter world.”

“I don’t need someone watching out for me.” She said in disgust. “I’m a Shadowhunter. I can hold my own–” her voice died in her throat. “…Was a Shadowhunter…” Elisa looked down at her hands. They were so pale they were practically translucent. Not wanting to ever see her runeless arms, Elisabete had adopted wearing nothing but long sleeves and high collared shirts. All she wanted to do was to go back home. To step into an Institute and know that’s where she belonged. “I didn’t ask for this.” Tears welled up in her eyes. “I don’t know what to do.” She whispered.

“Accepting what you’ve lost is the first step.” She added, she knew what it was like, to be so certain of who you were, what you were and when that all changed- well you felt like you lost yourself and you were stuck somewhere very dark. Rayna looked at the other, biting her lip for a moment before resting a hopefully reassuring hand on the others leg. “I know you didn’t and you might not know what to do now, but in time it’ll come to you. Just because you don’t have the runes or the angelic blood anymore doesn’t mean you can’t still help.” She told the other, trying to spark hope in what she knew was a probably hopeless filled mind, “It’s why I joined the Praetor, it’s why I help the Shadowhunters, even when they were the one’s that turned me out so fast that I didn’t have time to land on my feet. It’s rough to start with but that’s why I’m here, don’t see me as a guardian, see me as a friend that wants to help you.”
