My morning painting of the day.  Listening to Chaos Chaos and Lake.  While painting this I was thinking about how the old masters and golden age illustrators.

The holidays are a time where I’m divided against myself.  Due to this, much of the joy I derive during this time is bittersweet at best.  This piece is a manifestation of those feelings.

Things I Think About More Than I Probably Should.

I have a job that, while fairly engaging, gives me ample time to think.  One thought I often come back to is “Is Darth Vader a good character?”

I don’t mean this in the sense of good vs. evil. I mean in terms of well built.  He is recognizable certainly.  I doubt there are many americans, or many earthicans who don’t know of him relative to other characters.  But, is he all that well rounded?   What does he do in his bubble all day?  Does he go pal around with Jerry from accounting?  Does he make fun of that dumb medical droid on the north triage bay?  Does he like the smooth sounds of Mandelorian free form clone Jazz, or is he more of a Hoth Death Metal kind of guy?  Did Vader send a crew to salvage Aldaronian wine or would he rather enjoy Tatooine Whiskey.  Does he prefer toilet humor or sarcasm?  There isn’t any good reason he couldn’t enjoy or hate all of these things at once.  In the end its plain to see he had regrets.  He had fears, lusts, and made bad decisions.   I think though it would’ve been interesting, perhaps more interesting, if we had gotten to see more of him.  More of the stupid stuff that made him human.

One Year

One year ago today, a dear friend suggested I start this as a way to track my progress and post a webcomic idea I had been playing with.  That being said, I haven't kept up to it very well.  Its been a busy year and it is my hope that in the year to come I advance and post the evidence of my progress more consistantly.
