Today I managed to get React quill working, and also add categories to my app. I have a ton of polishing to do now that I have a new page, but I am ahead of schedule and have finished everything that I really wanted to fit into my MVP. Will be spending the rest of the week perfecting the UI and UX. Once I have finished those I will begin working on more of my stretch goals.

Spent today fiddling with CSS and ironing out little quirks in the UX.

Today was a day of fixing little bugs in my project. I fixed a variety of small little quirks that had a negative effect on the user experience. It didn't feel like a terribly productive day as I wasn't adding a bunch of new features, but I think the things that I did were necessary and it was time well spent.
I also managed to finagle with bootstrap and get it working decently with my project index page. Apparently bootstrap doesn't particularly like it when you have a dynamic number of rows, dynamic size of the elements in the row, and dynamic number of things in the row. I was really surprised how hard this was to figure out, and from my research online, I gather a huge number of people have had this problem too. Its ridiculous that a good bootstrap solution hasn't been implemented yet, and everyone has to resort to hacky work-arounds.

Spent today and the weekend fleshing out rewards, and a user page. A user can now log into the app and click on the reward of a project to purchase it. Rewards display how many times a user has purchased it. When a reward is purchased, the price of the reward is added to the amount of money a project has funded. If a project is deleted, the rewards associated with it are also deleted. A user can go to a user details page to see which projects they have created, backed, and which rewards they have purchased.

Today I got up and running with bootstrap. Bootstrap involves nesting elements in a TON of <div>’s. Yesterday my code was looking pretty clean. That is no longer the case. My render functions (out of necessity) are significantly longer. Getting it set up was a pain in the butt, but now I have a pretty decent looking site that is (almost) responsive.

Today was another productive day. I managed to get my UI working for projects. Users can now create, update, and destroy a project using the UI, and I now have a full flux cycle. Adding forms for creating and editing a project ended up being more difficult than I expected. Projects can have a long description, so it is necessary to populate the description field of the edit form with the selected project’s current description when it renders. React + forms work together a little weird though, it took some struggling to figure out what exactly I had to do to get this working. I started the day at 8am and finished at 11pm, but by the end of it had everything figured out. Tomorrow I'm going to spend some time on CSS, looking forward to seeing things come together!

Today was the first day of working on our final projects! I think I am off to a really good start. I am building a web app inspired by kickstarter, and by the end of today I had a functional login system and was able to manipulate projects via my API in the console. I also managed to get everything set up on heroku, which means my web app is living out in the internet somewhere, which is awesome. I ended the day building react components, but ran into some errors trying to require the react router. I ended up calling it a night after uninstalling + reinstalling + juggling different version numbers, will figure out exactly what is going on in the morning.

Today was the last day of react curriculum. We spent the day working on benchBnB. I managed to successfully get google maps to work on my page, and dynamically render the description of all of the benches that were within range of the map using react/flux. I have not worked with google maps before, I was surprised how simple it was to get basic functionality working. Looking forward to starting final projects tomorrow!

Today was awesome. We finally were given the task of making a web app from scratch front end to back using all of the technologies App Academy introduces us to. It was a solo day too, which I really liked. Over the weekend I'm going to try to get as much practice in as I can with react and flux, so come Monday I can spend more time building and less time debugging silly errors I keep making in the front end.

Today was more flux and React! Glad we got to practice more, there are a ton of different pieces to learn. I will definitely be spending this weekend building multiple front ends to help solidify my knowledge.

Today we were introduced to Flux, the architecture of front end applications that Facebook uses. We built an application (a musical keyboard) with flux and React on the front end, and rails on the back end. This was the first time that we utilized all of the technologies we have learned in a single application. My partner and I did not get to the point where we used our database, so we didn't end up building out functionality that allowed the front end to talk to the back end. Looking forward to getting the two to talk to each other tomorrow.

Today was more react! I found today to be more difficult than I had originally expected it to be. Getting my head around how the react architecture is supposed to work was challenging. Looking forward to getting more practice in tomorrow.
w7d1
Today was the first day of react! Using react was a lot of fun. Its a lot of syntax to learn, and there are some concepts that took a while to grasp, but overall the logic is pretty straightforward and its clearly an incredibly powerful tool. I enjoyed the day’s assignments and am looking forward to getting more practice tomorrow.

This has been a difficult week. I got pretty sick and missed a half day of work, had to study for assessment 5 during the week, and had to stay on top of all of the weeks new material. It was pretty intense. Thankfully I passed the assessment, didn't fall to fear behind despite missing class, and my fever has for the most part gone away and I can function again without medicine.
Today we took Assessment 5. I missed a spec today, it was an annoying implementation detail regarding a search algorithm. My algorithm was completely functional, it was a matter of rounding up vs rounding down. You could round either way in order for things to work, you just had to be consistent with your logic. I misinterpreted the spec and thought it was failing for a different reason, and spent an infuriating amount of time trying to debug my working code. C'est la vie.
Passing today’s assessment was a HUUGGEEE weight off my shoulders. We have a total of 6 assessments, and everyone is allowed to ‘fail’ 1. If you fail 2, you end up getting kicked out of the program. So far we have lost 7 people (from 61 down to 54) due to assessments. By passing the first five, I have guaranteed that I wont get kicked out due to the assessments. Which is great, because as I have mentioned before, the assessments are terrifying.
This next week we learn react and continue to focus on front end stuff, which will be extremely important for our final projects, and getting a job afterwards. We get to work on some really cool projects, and will be focusing on building interactive websites, which is the last piece of the whole ‘full stack puzzle’ we have been learning. I feel like we are SO CLOSE to be able to build entire web applications, I cant wait for all the pieces to be connected by the end of this week. Right now all of my rails apps have amazingly awesome backends, and on the front end just static text. That will soon change.

Today we built JQuery lite. It was a fun day, we got to learn how JQuery works behind the scenes and build some of its core functionality using vanilla javascript. Tomorrow we take assessment 5, will be spending the rest of the night making sure I am as prepared as can be for tomorrow morning.
w6d3
Today we began JQuery. I managed to stay for all of lecture, but was feeling really sick and ended up going to a clinic after. I have medicine now, hopefully ill be able to sleep tonight and be back on top of my game tomorrow.
