Che Empanadas was the inspiration for my theme this evening. They’re opening soon at Transfer Co Food Hall, but I’ve enjoyed their authentic Argentinian empanadas via catering for years (try the sweet beef, my favorite!). Good evening, Batoners! I’ve had the privilege of holding the Baton before, and have alway highlighted my favorite places in the Triangle to eat, drink, ride bikes...basically, where to commune with others. Personally, I think that’s a GREAT way to hold the Baton. But I know some of you long for more variety than we get when folks show the “best of”. So, for this go-round, I thought I’d highlight some of the new or up-and-coming places I’m the most excited about. First up: House of Hops McNeil Pointe. Long time readers will know that HoH Raleigh (on Glenwood north near Food Lion) is the BEST place to drink, play trivia, and build community ties. My husband and I rounded out the night with date night at one of my all time Raleigh faves - The Angus Barn at Christmas time! We made reservations about 6 months ago so if you have difficulty getting reservations now, keep in mind they keep the decorations up several weeks after the holidays so go by and check it out. It’s a true masterpiece and every year it’s a little different. If you can’t snag reservations this time of year then check out the Turkey Lounge or the Meat Locker. We may live in North Raleigh but we still love having our own little flock! Fresh eggs everyday is just an added perk. Don’t worry about our neighbors- they are all hens 😉 Our Silkie chickens are so sweet and the Khaki Campbell ducks are just fun. We got all of them from The Urban Chicken off Westgate Road. Family owned and operated as well and they are always so helpful! They do a Flock Swap once a month out in their parking lot! Check it out in the new year. It’s a fun experience. Today for lunch I’m eating at @itaewongrill near @dukeuniversity. Itaewon is a custom Korean bbq restaurant. Great prices, good amount of food and you can choose your base, veggies, meat and sauce. Good morning! My name is Teresa and I’m excited be carrying the baton today and sharing with you a snapshot of my corner of RDU. I live in Hillsborough and work in Durham. This morning I’m starting off showing a place I like to go for little hikes - Occoneechee Mountain park. It’s right in Hillsborough, but it feels like you are far away when you get to enjoy the views from the top and down by the eno. I had planned to finish the evening at my favorite Raleigh spot to see at Christmas, but a quiet dinner at home won out. In the hustle of life, family dinners and stories before bed become increasingly limited, and they’re good for the soul. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Anyone else workout more for their mental health than physical? After my kids passed along a cold, today was my first day back in the gym. I’m a much more patient person after I can get some 💪🏻 in. Anyways, while over here I have to show my favorite hair salon @theparloratnr. It is co-owned by one of my best friends Stacie who is a master of color and cuts. (Fun fact: She always knew she wanted to be a hair stylist so in high school—long before she went to hair school and mastered her technique—I let her cut my hair on her back porch. She tells me now it wasn’t a good cut but I’m pretty low-key and thought it was fine!) Although it’s tough to get on Stacie’s calendar these days because she works part-time, The Parlor has several awesome stylists who have loyal client followings. I am fully aware that @jubalacoffee has been featured on the Baton 783 times, but there’s a reason for that. The owner and his wife are good friends of ours and they have amazing coffee and food. (Plus I just learned that have an app where you can order ahead. Score one for the moms of wild toddlers 🙋🏻‍♀️) My order: their oatmeal with a spoonful of @bigspoonroasters peanut butter. My husband’s: a biscuit with country ham and pimento cheese. (And if you’re not in a coffee mood, @freshlevant is my favorite GF restaurant in the Triangle and @juicekeys is my favorite smoothie/health shop!) Also stopping by Lafayette Village to invite you to their Holiday Open House this Saturday. They will have a live nativity in the afternoon and Christmas choir concert at 5pm. Hi! I’m Amanda. I’m a #Raleighlifer, born at Rex along with my husband, and we have 2 kids who were also Rex babies. I earned my undergrad in business and Master of Accounting at UNC (#GoHeels) and these days I manage my husband’s business, along with keeping our little people alive. December is my favorite month of the year not only because of Christmas, but also because we travel much of the year, except December when we reconnect with our hometown.
