Last Thursday night RANY attended The Nouveau Classical Project,'s world premiere dance project entitled Potential Energies at BAM Fisher. The hybrid music ensemble collaborated with TrioDance Collective to perform a "new modern ballet. The 50-minute piece which is divided into three acts, each containing three movements, was conceived of and directed by NCP's founder Sugar Vendil and choreographed by Barbie Diewald to music by composer Trevor Gureckis.

CURRENT: Gowanus is an art exhibition and sale presented by Arts Gowanus and curated by Benjamin Sutton. The exhibit surveys the breadth and depth of visual art that is being made in Gowanus today. The Brooklyn nonprofit opened with  a benefit last evening and is now on view through weekend.  The show is colorful, thoughtful and curious (take note of Matt Callinan‘s amorphous ceiling installation of white balloons), so find your favorite pair of saddle shoes and maybe a flask of whiskey, and head back in time to see the future.

Last night RANY joined a formidable group of dancers, designers, musicians and critics to watch a work in progress at BAM Fisher byThe Nouveau Classical Project entitled Potential Energies.  Conceived and directed by NCP Artistic Director Sugar Vendil (who is also in the piece), choreographed by Barbie Diewald and composed by Trevor Gureckis the project delivers a modern twist on ballet in which musicians transcend their conventional roles.

Renaissance Redux- A Night with the Performa Visionaries. 

Last Tuesday, February 25th, the Performa Visionaries (a unique membership group of Performa) delivered a true Renaissance evening with a sensational Rustic Mid-Winter Supper at Coburn Projects. Hosted by Tali Wertheimer, David Clements, Joseph Levinson, and Lia Chavez, the night was a delightful explosion of colors, music, conversations and home cooking to launch the Visionaries’ first event for 2014.

Art Matters! at Bergdorf Goodman for NYC Fashion Week

Art Matters!, a new, ongoing series of art-inspired windows and events, kicked off NYC Fashion Week at the legendary Fifth Avenue department store.  Bergdorf’s collaborated with Kyle DeWoody, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Grey Area, to inaugurate Ten Artists for Ten Spaces, a platform in which ten emerging contemporary artists create installations in ten locations throughout the store.

Classical Rock, Scored Paper and Symphonic Scissors

On October 9th, New Yorkers gathered in Chelsea at Chambers Fine Art for an avant-garde evening organized by the fashion-forward classical ensemble The Nouveau Classical Project. NCP's 1st Annual Benefit featured a concert of classical and progressive music by Arnold Schoenberg and Lewis Nielson, and the premiere of a new piece by Leah Asher.  The ensemble also honored French composer Thomas Deneuville, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of I Care If You Listen with the NCP Visionary Award.

Outside In: Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition from the Collection of Heather Guess and Andrew Rayburn, Curated by Barbara Pollack, White Box, 329 Broome Street, Thursday October 3, 6PM

(NEW YORK, NY) – On October 3, White Box will open Outside In, a selection of works from the collection of Cleveland collectors Andrew Rayburn and Heather Guess.  Assembled since 2004, this array of Chinese artists spans two generations from those who emerged in the 1990s, including Ai Weiwei,  Cai Guo Qiang and Lin Tianmiao,  to the youngest artists now showing in China,  such as Chi Peng, Mi Mai, Chen Wei and Liu Di.

2013 Dieu Donné Annual Benefit Exhibition and Auction 

On Monday, October 7th, 2013 Dieu Donné will hold their Annual Benefit and Auction at James Cohan Gallery. This year, the boutique papermill will honor Jane Hammond, Mary Sabbatino, Kate Shepard and Ursula von Rydingsvard for their vital contributions to the Dieu Donné artistic legacy. The evening will feature live and silent auctions of over 100 new artworks on handmade paper made by an exciting group of contemporary artists such as Grayson Cox, Peter D. Gerakaris, Ethan Greenbaum and Buzz Spector.

Station to Station

Doug Aitken’s public art project, Station to Station is a Nomadic Happening that launched in New York on September 6th.  Over the course of the next three weeks, a train will continue traveling across the US (New York to San Francisco), making nine stops along the way. The mission of Station to Station is to connect leading figures and underground creators from the worlds of art, music, food, literature, and film for a series of cultural interventions and site-specific happenings. The train, designed as a moving, kinetic light sculpture, will broadcast unique content and experiences to a global audience.
