The Voices Inside Your Head

Writer social experiment time! That’s right, everybody, consider this a poll to discover the inner workings of the writing community and all the voices in our heads. 

So… I’m talking about the first time a character pops into your mind… how do they make themselves known to you? From the writers I’ve spoken to, there seems to be three main ways. 

It’s like tuning into a radio channel and overhearing their conversation.

It’s like hearing a movie voice-over in the characters’ voice, as if they were narrating their own thought processes. 

And (in my case) it’s like you’re a blind person mapping out the characters’ features with your hands, feeling out who they are.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family . . .

This is an AMAZING book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. check it out!!

The Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series by Laurell K. Hamilton

"Anita Blake is an Animator, who raises the dead for a living, as well as a Vampire Executioner and U.S. Marshal for the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team. She lives in St. Louis, were not only do wereanimals and vampires walk the streets, they have rights as citizens."

The first 9 books are amazing, afterwards it is a waste of time. You'll read these one after another. They will disappear like candy. But after you finish book 9, well, I suffered immensely with every book after that. It just went down hill for me. Maybe you will like them. Give this series a shot.

Spider's Bite (Book I)

In my personal opinion the author needs to fix a couple of things in her writing style. Minor details like the repeat-repeat-repeat of certain phrases and some little jumps in scenes, but the story line is amazing and crazy good.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Faerie has always been with us. The fairy tales, ballads, and folklore of the mortal world are only shadows of the true, sometimes terrible reality of the fae.
