PLURIBUS – SEASON 1 (2025)
We would move heaven and earth to make you happy, Carol. 🙂
i think the beautiful thing about pluribus to me is that in a way the dystopian world we see should be better. there is no war because they are of one mind, no poverty because resources are equally distributed and labour shared, and though they face the usual ails of the human body they have immediate access to the forefront of medical knowledge. they are probably taking better care of the planet with whatever their diet is, turning off power grids, and prioritising the heating of one shared space instead of many. though we don't directly see it, species that are under daily threat from poachers or hunters are not being persecuted anymore. this should be the perfect world we all dream of. and yet, it is not, it is deeply deeply terrifying because creativity, imagination, and individuality are entirely lost. cultures and traditions entirely cease to exist, community and family means nothing because they are all one. and it is our individuality which makes us human. this show is a literal representation of why you should always be, well, you, because it's exactly that which makes the world worth living in.
thinking about buying unnecessary stuff to boost my spirits
fuck i forgot to partake in handmade crafts and whimsy
the very next post on my dashboard was this one
i feel much more like a sex pervert thinking about how i want to be kissed by someone i am in reciprocated love with than about any actual sex pervert stuff. my disgusting true love fetish </3
this is my copium
The hive mind in Pluribus is an emotionally immature manipulative people-pleaser so intensely conflict avoidant as to be ultimately self-destructive. And I find that fascinating.
They cannot actively cause harm to any other living being, including PLUCKING AN APPLE, but they’re more-or-less okay with the entire human population of earth passively starving to death within a decade. And despite knowing that’s their ultimate fate, they are still trying to infect the last few remaining individuals on earth.
I think that shows that they don’t ACTUALLY care that much about causing harm as long as it’s not direct. It’s similar to them letting all the animals out of all the zoos. A lot of those animals are just going to die, but the hive mind doesn’t care because at least now they don’t have to feel bad about keeping them cages.
Their meltdown when Carol yelled at them further shows that they cannot handle even the tiniest bit of negative emotion on any level without fully self-destructing, but by avoiding all negative emotions they’re just self-destructing on a slightly slower scale.
And I don’t think the show on a whole is making a point that, like, war and violence are necessary for the continuation of human life. Because I don’t think the hive mind is actually pro-peace at all. But I do I think the show might be making a point that an entirely frictionless life is both unsustainable and ultimately undesirable, and that you can’t REALLY, as a living being, just opt-out of “causing harm” across the board.
i have never met an unpsychotic person who knows what it actually means to “not encourage the delusion” …not a single one
what “don’t encourage the delusion” means:
don’t argue with or challenge the delusion—attempting to disprove someone’s delusions is not helpful at all and will result in that person not trusting you
assure the delusional person that they are safe; be open and honest at all times
encourage them to verbalize their feelings and offer protection to prevent injury to themselves or, possibly, others
start building a trusting relationship with them rather than acting on a desire to control their symptoms
do not confirm or feed into the delusion by asking questions about it when the person is not experiencing a psychotic episode
what it does not mean:
insisting to a psychotic person experiencing psychosis that what they’re experiencing isn’t real
I don’t mean to trivialize psychosis by making a weird comparison, but this guide also serves as a handy checklist for helping someone through a bad drug trip. In both cases your number one priority is to get the person through whatever they’re dealing with unharmed.
i don’t think it’s trivializing at all, nor a weird comparison—as a psychotic person who has had psychotic episodes inadvertently triggered by drug use and/or worsened while trying to self-medicate with drugs, i think this is an important addition.
This is also very similar to what you should do when people with Alzheimer’s have paranoia episodes
Just because some of y’all won’t listen to this excellent advice without it, I am adding my therapist cosign.
stole this screenshot from a dif place on tumblr but. i'm so so tired of this flippant "needs therapy" comment directed towards authors (and sometimes the readers of their books). if you write something too disturbing, too orthogonal to the norm, too fucked up, you receive the implicit designation of mentally ill. often it's an injunctive, leveled against author or readers of, like, a little life or other "extreme" works. "seek therapy. seek help." this phrasing also privileges the modes of "treatment" we have today, as if therapy could have "fixed" (sorry for the excessive quotation marks!!) the problematic authors of the past. as tho we can dsm-v our way out of the human condition. deeply bleak
sex is so boring and passe but things that are metaphorically sex but weirder will never go out of style
too many girls who like snoopy and poetry and healing. personally I never heal and all I think about is the flaming skull
Being pretentious and arrogant is literally all we have #myvanity
