For a while now, Cloudward, ho! has been repeatedly touching upon the kind of legacies that sicken me: legacy as resurrection. Descendents treated as nothing more than repositories for their ancestor's spirit. Dreams compacted into their maker's image.

Chapmans are always sailors and they always die at sea. Preserving the Gotch family legacy. The Legio Rex and their Imperasaur. I saw myself in her. Zernians gave their hearts up to the queen, they couldn't take it. Myconymous Magnamesia. Little one. Olethra has the makings of an adventurer, she's wasted on her father's homestead.

It unsettles me how much this theme persists, particularly with the legacy cast over Comfrey MacLeod like a pall. The recurrance of mirrors; the singularity consuming Ludmilla's image. The girl who Marya saw herself in. Marya, the girl Comfrey saw herself in. Olethra, who Marya knows deserves better than being made into a puppet for her regrets but who's tugged by the strings Comfrey's legacy tied in her.

It wouldn't have been important for the Imperasaur to be taking over Courtney's body, a younger member of his same species, if it didn't have future relevance. He isn't an important enough character to have an entire magnamesia loophole for. And the way Brennan said it: the energies allow a creature to swap bodies with a younger member of its species. Younger, specifically.

It's not striking how much Comfrey & Olethra look alike. They're blood relatives, it makes sense. It is striking how much Comfrey, Olethra, Ludmilla, and Marya look alike.

I wonder if the Chapmans' pirate legacy is heavier than the weight of all the Chapmans who died too young. Who never even wanted to be sailors. I wonder why the Chapman ancestor's consent mattered more than every vein cascading after. I wonder if they made it matter.

Personally, I think the best answer to the What Color Are An Ding Peak's Robes question is that they were originally yellow. Not the same shade as Huan Hua Palace's gold robes, but close enough that they do bring up bad memories for Mobei Jun from time to time, which the original Shang Qinghua definitely used to his advantage when he needed to manipulate the King of the North in the original story. Eventually, Mobei Jun caught on, and this tactic failed.

When AIRPLANE Qinghua became the peaklord in his timeline, he changed the color to pale blue. This annoyed every single one of his peers, who found it irksome and unnecessary. After his betrayal came to light, many of them assumed that Shang Quinghua had probably been laughing at them in private because he'd pretty much announced his change in loyalties by walking around in Mobei Jun's colors. Even though this is not accurate. The Mobei blues are much darker. Airplane chose the light blue because it reminded him of Mobei Jun's eyes.
