Charlie Sifford for president
Charlie Sifford sounds like a boss. The golfer, who died Wednesday at 92, was the first professional black golfer ever and a consecutive five-time winner of the National Negro Open. He smoked cigars while playing. He was BFFs with boxer Joe Louis. And he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom. As all these accolades obviously suggest, Sifford was a North Carolina boy, born and raised in Charlotte. A tip of our flat cap to you, Mr. Sifford.
