My WHEN DESTINY BRINGS THE DEMON Review:
(I decided to make this review mainly because I have no one to talk to regarding the series. I also wanted to improve my writing cause itβs been going downhill since I started nursing. I just didnβt have to time to write anymore)
(This review is my overall one and contains major spoilers)
First of all, I admit I touched this series out of severe withdrawal from LOVE IN THE CLOUDS (while I may talk about in the future). Iβll try not to compare this with LITC but I feel like I will be since, again, I watched this to move on from it (sorry). I wanted to watched something similar and stumbled upon WDBT on Netflix. When I started watching, I was instantly reminded of ADWAD (will also be talking about this in the future). The whole isekai thing and I was like, I know the ending already (SPOILER: I was right but it still made me cry).
Back to the story, while watching, i instantly felt the difference from LITC. The colors werenβt as vibrant and I was starting to complain because the graphics werenβt giving. The set looked cheaper than LITC. Sima Jiaoβs (from here on out, weβll call SJ) costumes were repetitive and Liao Tingyanβs (from here on out, weβll call LTY) were kinda not giving. Or so I thought. Later in the series, I realized that it was to describe how badly treated SJ was. Everything improved the moment SJ was released from the prison called his βhouseβ.
Then there is the chemistry test, and I must say, they had something but not something SOMETHING. It got better towards the end though but I still felt like it was not enough. Iβm talking about this because if I compare it to W:Two Worlds or LITC, I could not feel the chemistry most of the time. Ngl, when I was watching, I was thinking about how easily I can move on from this one (SPOILER: Iβm still kinda bummed that we donβt get to see their relationship in their 4th life).
Story wise, it was draggy in the first 12 episodes. I get that it was to establish world building and their relationship, but it did kind of feel draggy. Then it picked up when they were both traveling the Immortal Realm to escape and plot against the villain. Althought Iβm kinda sad that I didnβt enjoy those moments to the fullness because that was literally the only time we get to see them happy. Because after that, it became dark. LTY βdiedβ and SJ was gravely injured.
When SJ woke up, 18 years have passed and LTY was still missing. When she was found, she was a whole new person with an annoying 2ndML βchildhood friendβ. We also see how she was forced to mature and ngl, it made me miss the carefree LTY.
ANYWAY, SJ was still super sweet and caring. Even though LTY couldnβt remember him (her memories were erased by the villain), he was saying how it didnβt matter and all that. BUT you know what was good? How they mixed LTY with SY (LTYβs new self). Like you can definitely see the same LTY but still more mature and stronger.
Many things happen and TLDR, SJ died for real to defeat the main villain boss, You Yan (YY). During this time, LTY was very oblivious and lived as the ruler of the Immortal-Demon realm for 19 years. And oh gosh, I love how they wrote LTY during this arc because even though many things happened, she still hasnβt changed. The only thing was, she was still missing SJ.
THEN she finds out that SJ was reborn in the Mortal Realm (ngl, this was also the part I realized they were being literal with the realm names). No powers and memories of his first life, but was still born a royal. He became the Emperor of the Hu Kingdom. Well, sort of, since heβs still underage.
Ngl, this is the kind of series where age system is so confusing, youβll start to turn a blind eye on their age. Even if theyβre underage, their brains still retain old memories (IF you are not like SJ who lost his cultivation and powers, lmao).
So yeah, back to the story, current SJ has always been dreaming of LTY since childhood although he has never seen her before. And i think thatβs just heartwarming because even if he doesnβt remember her, all the things heβs done was always connected to her. He was a very good emperor following LTYβs morals, lol.
When SJ saw LTY again (she learned he was reborn and came to look), he called for her and boom, he was instantly smitten. And remember, this SJ was more innocent than formerSJ who literally faced hardships for 500 years. And I was laughing and squealing at the sudden power shift. LTY was all teasing him and he didnβt know how to act. Ngl, all scenes of them teasing each other was their most chemistry moments. It looked so cute how the uptight SJ was suddenly all flustered or smiley at LTY.
This is getting long.
Iβll come back later, lol.
