How Destiny got me Back into Titanfall
I was so excited for Titanfall months leading up to its release. I basically bought an Xbox One for TF alone. So when it finally came out I took the day off work and dove it fulling expecting a Modern Warfare type of experience, only modernized with all these new ideas. After all a new take on a competitive FPS is exactly what I've looking for. And I had a lot of fun with it for a few weeks, but then my excitement began to peter off. The game was missing certain hooks that I realized I need in a competitive FPS. And because of that I pretty much put the game down for months without going back to it.
For starters, the stat tracking isn't useful to me. Sure it's detailed but I was hoping for something more in line of what I can get from a COD game. Another point that really got to me was the bots in the game. I understand why they're there but the way they blend into regular combat has me shooting at them while being shot at by other human players all the time and it's frustrating, and last and probably most importantly, I realize how I play COD doesn't work too well in this game. Titanfall is about speed and agility, I play COD very slow, I don't rely on quick reflects as much as I do on instinct and knowing player tendencies. That's hard to do when TF makes games so unpredictable because of how many directions a player can go in at any given time.
Well last week while playing through the Destiny beta I chose the Hunter class and received a sniper rifle as my special weapon. Now, I always liked the sniper class, I like how clean a one shot kill can be, but like a lot of people it wears on my patience and I eventually need to move to a different gun, but in Destiny it's really fun and waiting for the right shot is almost a game unto itself with the smart AI. That thought process carried over into Titanfall when I decided to picked it back up a few days ago and changed my primary gun to a sniper rifle. Oddly enough slowing TF down by using a sniper rifle has got me back into it in a big way. Picking a spot, waiting for a few targets to come my way, predict where they'll land and letting off a few shots before running off and finding another place has been a lot of fun. Also, slowing the game down allows me to see bots for what they are before popping them off. Stat-tracking still isn't exactly what I want but I'll live with it until the sequel.
So I'm having a lot more fun with Titanfall now and it's because of Destiny.
