going to a movie theater with a friend is like absolutely my idea of the best time ever. the movie does not matter literally all that matters is sitting next to a loved one in a dark room and watching trailers and sharing a popcorn.

I feel like trying to comprehend what aliens would look like is like trying to think of what new colors would look like, like if they had their own billions of years of the randomness of evolution they’d really be absolutely nothing like us and probably wouldn’t even like, fully fit into our definitions of what makes life. And whenever people try to design aliens it’s Always somehow based on our idea of life that developed on Earth. Even the most bizarre alien designs I’ve seen still look like, life from earth. Especially from the ocean. Like all life on earth is based on carbon and that also is something that shapes our understanding of what life is here, but I feel like, life could develop from like, gold, or iron too. In science fiction the only thing that’s ever really played with, is life being evolved from silicon instead. There are so many small things in their evolutionary process that could make them not only absolutely nothing like us, but also absolutely nothing about anything living we have on this planet.

We also have like, very few ways to communicate with most other life on Earth. If we can’t communicate with other animals on earth, who are more similar to us than any alien would probably be, how would we communicate with aliens?

And in sci-fi media the thing that fucks up my suspension of disbelief the most is when human characters have like, children with aliens, and I feel like that would be absolutely 100% impossible under any circumstances like we’d be more likely to be capable of getting pregnant from a Idk, a dolphin or something (and obviously that would be fucked up) than we’d be able to get pregnant from an alien.

and also like, plants, animals, and fungus and stuff like that are all things that are products of the randomness of evolution on earth and I also don’t think aliens would fit into any of those categories

I totally agree with all of this and I love thinking about the idea of incomprehensible aliens, but I also like to think about the idea that maybe convergent evolution would work for different planets the same way it does for different continents...like maybe habitable planets ultimately have to be similar enough that any life developed on them would take comprable forms. So maybe life on another planet would be different but would also be fundamentally similar enough that we could relate to it.
