As a woman who competed in a male-dominated sport like wrestling, I know what it feels like to not be taken seriously. So yeah ā watching them sit there and laugh didnāt sit right with me at all.
That being said, if someone decides they donāt want to support Quinn or any of the other players anymore, thatās completely their choice. No one is stopping anyone from stepping away. But I also believe itās possible to support someone as an athlete without agreeing with or supporting everything they do as a person.
āSeparate the art from the artistā has always been a complicated idea, but itās real. For me, I enjoy the game, the talent, and the fictional versions I write about. I love writing ā thatās what Iām going to keep doing.
The video was disgusting. It should have never been posted. At the same time, I donāt think you can fully define someoneās beliefs or character based on one video alone.
And itās important to remember: fictional Quinn Hughes is not the same as real Quinn Hughes. The same goes for any public figure. The characters we read and write about are just that ā characters.
I also want to say this, even though some people may not agree with me. I truly donāt believe they had any real input or control over what was going to happen. And while being drunk doesnāt excuse what happened, itās still important to acknowledge that they were intoxicated at the time.
I know Jack and Quinn are friends with some of the PWHL girls, and I think they may have been laughing because the situation felt uncomfortable. Sometimes people laugh in tense or awkward moments, not because they think something is funny, but because they donāt know how else to react.
