hey as long as discourse on whether joining the military is bad or not (it is) is doing the rounds again, i’d like to remind everyone that people who were in the military but are not any longer are not ontologically incapable of being leftists or good people. many of the military’s harshest critics are vets. they’ve seen what the military can do. they’ve personally been chewed up and spat. so have their friends. they know first hand the horrors the military has inflicted on the world.
obviously many vets never stop drinking the kool-aid. but many others do. and we shouldn’t reject them as comrades. chelsea manning was in the army before becoming a whistleblower. edward snowden was in the nsa. etc. yes call out people for joining, keep pointing out it’s wrong to kill people for money. even if you’re poor. even if you’re ignorant. but don’t condemn someone solely for their past if they’ve done the hard work of learning and growing. i think it’s pretty easy to walk and chew gum on this one. but it’s easy for some of us to forget that we have to.
Drug arrives years after pandemic’s peak, but could still offer protection to vulnerable populations.
An antiviral pill has, for the first time, been shown to prevent COVID-19 in people exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus at home, according to trial results published today in the New England Journal of Medicine1. The drug could be a lifeline for those who still face real danger from the virus, such as care-home residents or transplant recipients on immune-suppressing medication.
There are good things happening in the world.
So many political posts I hate boil down to "I don't want to organize and work with people I hate and fight for small, incremental victories, I just want to start a revolution where everyone magically becomes an automaton who acts exactly the way I think they should act"
Like damn man, I want that too. Unfortunately I live in reality though so we're stuck with the first thing.
this disability pride i wanna keep in mind the disabled people who are in a difficult situation because of their disability. people who were made homeless because of their disability, people who are stuck in abusive homes and can't get out because of their disability. people whose disability was used against them to facilitate abuse, like taking away their autonomy - medical, legal, or otherwise - taking charge of their finances, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities. it's reasonable to think that a lot of disabled people, especially disabled people in difficult circumstances such of these, would struggle to connect with the idea of disability pride. but pride or otherwise, this month should also be disability solidarity month. this month and every month is for all disabled people in all sorts of circumstances
falling in love with her art all over again...

edit: hi hello 10 minutes after i made this post i discovered ms trusova is here on tumblr! her blog is atrusovaartist, go and enjoy her art directly from her!
Two Utah court clerks have been dubbed "anti-ICE vigilantes" after they were allegedly caught "sneaking" immigrants out the back door of the
That's how you show real solidarity!
"After they overheard that ICE was at the courthouse to arrest someone, they improperly accessed court databases to determine who was not born in the United States," a DOJ detention filing says. "They then snuck every suspected illegal alien who was at the courthouse out a back door, where ICE, who was waiting in the parking lot for their target to leave the building, could not see them."
Think about what you can do at your job or in your daily life to resist fascism when the opportunity presents itself!
A few months back, you might have read about two Logan City, UT court c… William Joma needs your support for Support Legal Fees for Logan Ci
Here is the link to contribute to their legal fund. They are facing multiple felony charges and I have no info on whether they have any community support at this time. If their actions are something you support, consider helping them out through the aftermath and investigation by the "justice" system
The first photo is from 1956. It shows a Black woman watching members of the Ku Klux Klan (a terrorist, racist, far-right organization focused on white supremacy) walking along a sidewalk in Montgomery, Alabama (USA). I couldn't find the photo's author, but most sources state that it was taken in 1956.
The second photo shows members of the Patriot Front group (a white supremacist and nationalist group, formed in 2017, that openly advocates what they call "American Fascism") traveling on the subway during the 250th anniversary of the U.S. independence in Washington D.C., while a Black woman watches them. The photo is by photographer Cheney Orr, taken on July 4, 2026, 70 years after the first photo.

Every single non trans woman who proclaims to be an ally absolutely needs to be posting about how goddamn transmisogynist staff is.
Because when trans women dare to speak up for themselves, Tumblr nukes their blogs.
We need to be fucking loud about this, daily, because Tumblr staff is specifically targeting and deleting trans women who are not breaking ToS and who often have fundraisers up FOR THEIR SURVIVAL.
By deleting these blogs repeatedly, Tumblr staff is saying loud and clear what they hope happens to these girls.
Are y'all okay with that? Because if not we need to be posting about it more because we have seen by now it's incredibly fucking unlikely this sites moderation will delete our blogs for it because we are not trans women
Tumblr staff and CEO Matt Mullenweg want trans women in need to not be able to post their fundraisers, meaning they are okay with these women dying.
This study is being done by Dr. Lisa Littman, Dr. Kenneth Zucker, and J. Michael Bailey. The same people behind the “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria” and other Transphobic pseudoscience. Do NOT give information to them via ayagdos, they have a long history of retractions and reported misconduct.
Report this ad wherever you see it. The fact that staff allows this kind of shit yet still turning a blind eye to everything else is just pure hatred.
Burden of Proof:
The project is called AYAGDOS—brought to you by the same names behind “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria” pseudoscience.
If you see this, don't participate. It's a rigged study by Lisa Littman and unethical researcher J. Michael Bailey meant to undermine access
genuinely people should be getting arrested for this heat. oil ceos should be getting dragged out onto the streets and kicked to death over this.
So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,
And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.
And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?
But nope, that's not the case:
Africa is struggling with heat waves and many countries on the continent lack the resources rich economies have to deal with rising temperat
Some selections from the article:
"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.
“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”
"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."
I'd listen to the arguments that AI is bad for the environment, worsens labor conditions, and aids surveillance, security, and warfare but not the ones claiming it's bad for art or violates artists' rights.
Even the Bad for the enviroment arguement is stupid because AI's impact on the enviroment isnt any different than any other datacentres.
This isn't true. I'm not going out to bat for non-AI data centres here, but AI data centres take significantly more energy to power and are already soiling the water and air of the towns they are placed next to.

Okay so I wasn't trying to turn this post into a long running argument that is frustrating for everyone involved. I'm sharing some sources in good faith. Whether you engage with them or not is up to you.

Academic article on impacts on global health in general data centres (either way this is all very very bad for the environment and we should not be building more):
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12273412/
Hundreds of millions of people live close enough to data centres used to power AI to feel warmer average temperatures in their local area
They discovered that land surface temperatures increased by an average of 2°C (3.6°F) in the months after an AI data centre started operations. In the most extreme cases, the increase in temperature was 9.1°C (16.4°F). The effect wasn’t limited to the immediate surroundings of the data centres: the team found increased temperatures up to 10 kilometres away. Seven kilometres away, there was only a 30 per cent reduction in the intensity.
This is fine
