She was truly one of a kind. Only Mom could find a way to bring our family closer even during this unprecedented time when we can’t all be together. Dorothy Priscilla Davis Roberts passed away last night after 97 wonderful years on earth. Affectionately known as Dottie, Mom and Gma, she was recognized as a gentle Southern Belle who was kind to all and greeted everyone with her sweet Southern drawl. But the true fun began when people really got to know her and her edgy, often irreverent humor and teasing ways. Mom was never ever boring. She was passionate about long morning walks, baking sweet apple pies and watching baseball on TV. But most of all, she was passionate about her family and was a great partner to my father who loved and appreciated her especially after she helped to guide him literally and figuratively when he lost his eyesight. People say, “well she lived a good long life” and I know that to be true. But I think that’s why it’s been so hard to let her go - because she has been with us our whole lives. Of course, I am just being a little selfish and I know that she has moved on to a better place. I can’t help but picture my father perking up his nose and wiping away tears as he sees her again, but this time with perfect vision.
