imagine a planet with an atmosphere thin enough you can see stars in the middle of the day, and it's bright. imagine a planet that, despite being lit by its sun on a daily basis, is cold enough to freeze your joints shut. the planet's hottest regions are barely warm enough to allow you to move. the planet's coolest regions are able to solidify your muscles. every single thing that inhabits it - because of COURSE it's teeming with life - is tragicaly toxic to you, almost as much as you are to it. the gases you breath out on your homeworld? present on its surface as liquids, and even solids.
it's a planet with an atmosphere toxic enough to warrant you immediate chemical burns that shrivel your tissue down to your very bones if you stay in it for too long; the atmosphere that allows for a highly dangerous chemical reaction (the very one that shrivels your tissue, had you forgot) that is deadly even for the inhabitants of this death world, but something about the chemical makeup of your body makes it go absolutely nuts and happen instantly after you step into that toxic, freezing air.
a planet with an outer layer so thin it allowed the intelligent species of that world to discover a cosmic form of unstoppable, deadly energy capable of slowly frying any remotely organic form of life into a discombobulated puddle of unrecognizable, unusable traits over the course of generations (if it doesn't kill it outright), and also map out more constellations than your people could ever dream of, all without even lifting their feet off the ground they stand on...
and that's basicaly what i imagine going through rocky's head when he decided to run out into the hail mary to save grace. btw
