I got a question, do you have a favorite moment you done while you worked on SMG4?
I know I listed my SOTC park bench scene as my top favourite scenes to work on in this post.
As for a favourite moment... I mean it goes without saying:
I felt very honoured to work on and animate such a pivotal scene for these two with their fight and reconciliation. But, I will always be so proud of this moment in particular for a multitude of reasons:
-The timing of them grabbing hands I felt was essential - you'd be surprised how much can be implied in the length of inaction/silence. I think I found just the right pacing to make it as impactful as possible.
-The shot with Meggy, Tari and SMG3 was not originally in the script but I felt was SO necessary for their characters and helped aid the change in tone. I'm so glad it was kept.
-I also wanted the fog and wind to be a running visual representation of their strained relationship - so naturally the fog slowly lifts and the wind dies down as they rise to their feet as friends again. It's not an obvious detail but it's one I'm so happy I endeavoured to keep.
-I got incredibly lucky and struck GOLD with a copyright-free music choice that conveyed JUST the feeling I was looking for. It was like 'Eureka' moment for me while editing.
-More importantly, I just knew how crucial this moment would be to a lot of fans and my close friend @starteas who had just left at the time. If there was ever a scene I wanted to make sure I got right, it was this one.
