I keep contemplating inspirational and profound topics that I’d like to write about and ‘share with the world.’ Yet here I am, sharing memes all day and finding myself lost in the mindless scroll of social feeds and selfies. I find that I am most empowered when I am engaged in conversations about diversity, social and systemic change, serving underprivileged communities and living a holistic and healthy lifestyle.
Why do I currently find myself content with taking landscape photographs that rarely involve people as subject matter, when I grew up dreaming about working as a photojournalist for National Geographic who would help to provide a digital voice for those who have been silenced?
How can I care so much and yet continue to do nothing? I am more resilient than I have ever been and am moving toward a space of spiritual enlightenment that has freed me from bondage and baggage that I never knew I carried.
I feel so hopeless sometimes and wonder if any piece of art, writing, action, or donation that I make will actually make a difference.
So instead of pretending that I have it all figured out today, I thought I’d just write what was on my heart and pose the question to myself and anyone else who might find themselves in a similar mindset, “What is blocked internally that is preventing you from expressing yourself wholly?”
I’m going to meditate on this and work on healing, breathing into the root of where it is felt in my body, and opening myself up, because there’s a fire kindling inside and I think it’s time to let it burn.
On meditation: At a workshop I attended recently, a woman interjected when the speaker spoke of the benefits of meditation with, “well it’s easy to meditate when you’re in Bali,” and while I knew on a deep level that self-realization and peace comes from within and can not truly be found in the external world, I still chuckled as it felt all too relatable. It was easy to feel at peace this weekend when the view was as follows, and the idea of self-realization felt more attainable the next day at the workshop after coming from a day at the beach.
