petals of blood rose
I caught feelings for you faster than a dry forest catches flame from an old cigarette. You are my wild fire, I am yours to consume.
I’m confused what you did to my heart (via jehennam)

if it were even possible, she felt overwhelmingly content, gifts practically overflowing in her office space. there were plenty sitting upon her couch in neat stacks, others surrounding the piece of furniture, and there were others scattered on and around her desk. only a few had been opened, mostly boxes and bags containing food, sweets, and special drinks. already, several boxes of candy ( although admittedly, they weren’t enormous ) were lying empty in the waste basket beside her desk, and she was busy emptying another.
in her preoccupied state, rangiku very nearly didn’t bother lifting her gaze at the sound of approaching footsteps that finally entered her office. of course, at some point, she had been expecting to see shuuhei ( she had given him a valentine’s day gift ), but not in such an extravagant display. he brought to her a mountain in his arms, coupled with an outfit —- so modern & chic —- that suited him all too well.
‘ shuuhei?! ’ she was on her feet in a second the minute the threat of everything toppling over because far too grave, and she was by his side to help steady them. ‘ these aren’t all for me, are they? ’ not that she would have complained if he said yes, although she nearly felt bad that there was so much. nevertheless, the look in her eyes was revealing of what she felt : excitement, satisfaction, gratitude, and happiness. with a wide smile, she said, ‘ thank you! wow! this is—… a lot! i don’t know where to put them.. ’
Her surprise was entirely worth the effort he put into gathering his gifts.
A smile was steadily spreading over his features, though he tried to keep it from rising ear to ear. Shuuhei pursed his lips and swallowed a thick swell of words that wanted to pour from his throat, instead only laughing weakly under his breath ( a sign of nervousness ). His attention had become so entirely enraptured by the lieutenant before him that he hadn’t even noticed the tell tale sign of wobbling boxes in his arms.
“They are,” he answers, willing his voice to remain smooth and level. Her smile further warms his heart, swelling to a fuller size within his chest at the presence of her joy. “I- I hope you like them... !” he hastily adds, shifting his arms slightly to keep them encircled around the numerous gifts.
Rangiku’s mention of the fleeting space within her office finally draws his eyes to the rest of the room where many packages had made their homes, and for a fleeting second Shuuhei’s own fluttering heart falters. In a moment of bliss he had forgotten how truly admired the lieutenant was ( though that was not to say she did not deserve such admiration, but Shuuhei was a man lacking confidence in the presence of someone who caught his affections ). Another hesitant laugh born from his trembling nerves escapes him as he turns back to look at her ( still wishing to soak in the genuine happiness of her expression ).
“Ah, sorry.. I hope it’s not too much trouble, Rangiku-san.”

despite the obvious tiredness that seemed to nearly dull her eyes, they were quick to brighten as an excited smile tugged at the corners of her lips. ‘ that’s wonderful! oh, i don’t know what i would do without such a good friend! ’ what an overwhelmingly awful day. rumors made their way around faster than any jigokuchō, there was no doubt in that, but to think that this was something that people were believing. were they truly that foolish or was this just an elaborate joke?
nevertheless, rangiku had found herself in a tight situation and she was glad to be rescued for once. ‘ hm.. maybe around… five or six in the evening? we could go out to get something to eat, and then we can figure out what to do next, if ōmaeda is really going to come around my place at nine. ’
Her praise leaves him flustered, his heart fluttering momentarily; a swirling mixture of excitement and nervousness causes a weak chuckle to bubble up in his throat while his hand combes through the messy spikes of hair at the back of his head. Rangiku’s smile always set a warm glow within his chest and to be the cause of her smiles thrilled Shuuhei endlessly. “It’s nothing, really! I’m happy to help,” he answers, though still obviously glowing from her affirmations.
“How about in the middle, so five thirty?” he asks after clearing his throat in order to retain some level headed disposition. Shuuhei nods further as she explains, folding his arms over his chest. “Maybe a walk after dinner then, just to be sure?”
To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength.

“That is a relief to hear.”
Hisagi appeared more well rested than the months before. Not to say that Sajin was blind to the fatigue that seemed to make a permanent home around the eyes of the ninth’s lieutenant.
Sajin did not envy his youth. With it came firsts; and while there were pleasant firsts, there were also first hardships and the lack of experience in how to navigate through them. But if there was anything to be said of the young, it was their resilience.
“I would not mind the company if you find yourself with the time. …Tell me, how are you adjusting to Muguruma Taichou?”
“Certainly, Captain,” the lieutenant nodded briefly, the slight curve of his lips remained on his features as he spoke. Shuuhei willed himself to relax as best he could, but tension made its home within his bones long ago, and so it was a hard posture to slowly break through.
The mention of his new Captain ( or should he say the return of the former Captain? ) pulls his attention away from past, a place he found himself visiting far too often within the confines of his thoughts. “He is... different from Captain Tousen,” he answers slowly.
“I respect him nonetheless, though.”
Those who do not fear the sword they wield have no right to wield a sword at all. That’s what I was taught.

“Yes, I’m sure!” he answers, possibly a little too enthusiastically. The genuine relief in her eyes does however make his heart flutter, light in his chest ( he’s not sure if he’s simply a fool or too soft for her in particular ).
“What time would you prefer?” Shuuhei did not sleep very deeply, or for very long if he were to be truthful. Early was very much doable for the ninth division lieutenant. “Anything is fine by me.”
rangiku let out a dramatic sigh and slumped over onto the table beside him. an arm extended and her fingers brushed against the smooth porcelain tokkuri of sake. ' hey.. you didn't hear any.. strange news today, right? god! it was a mess. you don't believe it, do you? '
His hand stalls in the air above her shoulder momentarily, though he gently pats her upper arm, a sympathetic smile coming to Shuuhei’s lips in turn. “I heard... some of it,” he answers, which was as truthful as he could be; as much as gossip spread quickly in the Seireitei, it also spread wildly, tales growing more tails as a story would tumble from mouth to mouth over and over.
“Of course not.” The smile on his lips widens further in the moment of reassurance. “I mean, it’s Omaeda, who would?”
"Here." It wasn't really anything that special, just a boxed lunch, but it was homemade and did include some heart shaped butter cookies. "For Valentine's Day." That's what today was, right? Hm. No she'd overheard it called something else today "Or White Day, I forget which."
There was no way he would turn down such a gift— actually, it was very unlikely Shuuhei would turn down a gift to begin with, as he thought the notion to be rude and ungrateful. Nonetheless, he’s delighted at the gift, stern expression breaking into a smile as he held the bod with both hands.
“Thank you very much!” he says excitedly, “And yes, today’s white day,” he adds, gently correcting her. Though he does not recall getting his third seat a gift on the holiday before. “Would you like to go out for drinks some time?” he asks, hoping to return her gesture.

His arms are overbearingly full, struggling to keep the various wrapped boxes, gifts, and bags within his grasp. Maybe it was a little too much, Shuuhei had considered as such, but his excitement had preceded such typical reasoning of his. It was Rangiku! Of course he had to do his absolute best to impress her ( he held her praise perhaps a little too highly ).
Within the various packages there is a rather nice bottle of sake he had managed to purchase roughly a week before, having waited anxiously for the item to go on sell in time for today’s holiday. There was a bottle of perfume that he had asked one of the Ryoka about— Orihime was her name he reminds himself— a soft blue scarf, a small bundle of lilies in one of his freer arms ( so as not to be crushed by the other gifts ), a box of chocolates, and a finely made simple chain as a bracelet. Shuuhei hopes it is indeed enough to delight Rangiku.
“R-Rangiku-san—”
“Happy White day... !!”

Captain Komamura’s presence is one that soothes his own aching soul in the way that the unwavering mountain will always stand tall. Sharp, calloused features soften at the sight of the recovering captain, his words flowing like golden reassurance through him.
“She’s very skilled,” the lieutenant answers in turn. “I’m thankful we have her around— And yes, I’m healing fine.” Shuuhei comes to sit near Komamura, the soft smile on his lips lingering still ( despite the worry, the shadows in his thoughts; and his former Captain’s philosophy rings true deep in his heart, but that, too, is another pang of sorrow within his chest ).
“Is there anything I can get you, Captain?”
