Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā REBECCA Ā WAS Ā ONE Ā OF Ā THE Ā FEW Ā at Ā the Ā party Ā who Ā isadora Ā felt Ā any Ā form Ā of Ā affection Ā for, Ā especially Ā the Ā candid Ā whip Ā of Ā her Ā tongue. Ā ā Ā i Ā do Ā belief Ā you Ā would Ā find Ā the Ā ballroom Ā quite Ā deserted Ā if Ā you Ā were Ā to Ā do Ā that. Ā ā Ā still, Ā it Ā was Ā a Ā nice Ā thought, Ā one Ā that Ā isadora Ā was Ā half - tempted Ā to Ā encourage Ā rebecca Ā to Ā act Ā upon. Ā ā and Ā so Ā you Ā should Ā do, Ā darling, Ā you Ā know Ā me, Ā i Ā donāt Ā bestow Ā a Ā compliment Ā if Ā it Ā is Ā not Ā formed Ā in Ā truth.Ā ā Ā her Ā daughter Ā often Ā branded Ā her Ā a Ā ā bitchĀ ā Ā for Ā such Ā a Ā philosophy, Ā but Ā it Ā was Ā only Ā how Ā isadora Ā herself Ā had Ā been Ā raised. Ā ā Ā oh Ā not Ā nearly Ā enough Ā for Ā me Ā to Ā lord Ā over Ā him, Ā quite Ā disappointing Ā really. Ā ā Ā taking Ā advantage Ā of Ā the Ā stilled Ā waiter, Ā the Ā marchioness Ā also Ā replaced Ā her Ā glass Ā with Ā a Ā fresh Ā one, Ā taking Ā a Ā much Ā needed Ā sip before Ā chuckling Ā in Ā fondness Ā at Ā rebeccaās Ā words. Ā Ā ā Ā now Ā i Ā might Ā accuse Ā you Ā of Ā over Ā flattery, Ā darling, Ā but Ā iām Ā not Ā a Ā woman Ā who Ā shies Ā away Ā from Ā compliments.Ā Ā ā Ā she Ā thrived Ā off Ā them Ā if Ā anything. Ā ā Ā but Ā tell Ā me, Ā where Ā on Ā earth Ā have Ā you Ā been Ā hiding Ā yourself Ā lately ?? Ā i Ā cannot Ā recall Ā the Ā last Ā time Ā i Ā even Ā saw Ā you Ā last. Ā ā
Ā āAnd who would we depend on to fetch our handkerchiefs when they flutter to the ground, or supply us with anecdotes about their most recent chess match?ā In conversation with Isadora, Rebecca was never left in want of amusement or folly, at the expense of their miserly peers. She knew her mother (and many present) would deride the jibes, but Isadora understood her humor.Ā āHer Majesty must rush by me at some point, so I can be humbled. You treat me too well.ā Rebecca enjoyed the steadfast and energetic fashion - which Isadora seemed to apply in all manners of life, and the candor that came with it.Ā āNonsense! Anyone who proclaims you to be anything less then a siren amongst is, has been hired by that middle aged woman to our right - I believe her to be green with envy.ā Flattery was very much Rebeccaās business, and she aimed to succeed in all facets; but in the company of those she regarded highly, honesty was favored. And few appreciated candor, as much as Isadora.Ā āAshamed to say it has been two years - Father called to me back to Tokyo, business and such.ā Home and Tokyo were interchangeable in Rebeccaās vernacular, but she sought always to endear herself closest, with the country in which she currently resided.Ā āBut how is the family? I believe I saw Bertie and some cohorts early. Little Arthur must be quite the man by now! And Arabella, as charming as her mother.ā
zachenrightā:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āMm. Rabid is right. They just canāt get their hands off of me,ā he agreed in jest, with a gesture of faux exhaustion. The fact was this: they did not know what to make of someone like Zach, when he looked like he did while having a name and an upbringing like he did. He had experienced the same thing from primary school to university, when heād first joined the Guardian, and it was the same now. No one would dare act outwardly disrespectful to him, but the polite-yet-hard scrutiny was there. āCheers, then.ā Mirroring her movements, Zachary was awarded with a single cigarette dispensed from the box. āTaiwanese? Did you just get back?ā he asked, offering his lighter in return, question mumbled by the cigarette between his teeth.Ā
Ā āI can certainly think of six or seven esteemed guests whoād like nothing more to get their hands on you.ā Rebecca matched him in jest, tugging a cigarette free, as she allowed habitually stern features bend towards a smile. Where exactly those guests would like to place their hands, was an open secret - she admired Zacharyās admirable charge into such a fray. Her own status was contentious, but at least Rebecca could claim semi-neutrality in the press wars.Ā āPit stop of sorts, on my way back from Tokyo. The cigarettes and people are unmatched.ā Accepting his light, Rebecca closes her eyes - savoring the richness of the flavor, before exhaling a flurry of smoke into the velvet night. Englandās sky was never as illuminated by a smattering of skies, as it was under the Queenās command.Ā āHave you ever been, Enright?ā Preferring to call most by their family name, Rebeccaās invocation of his secondary name, would fail to signal to any outsider their strong acquaintance.Ā āIf my memory serves me right, you went straight from the hallowed halls of uni to the printing presses.āĀ
zachenrightā:
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āDāyou know what, I might just steal one of these,ā he joked, features deadpan as he picked up the empty ashtray to survey it. Intricate floral designs adorned the edge. Made of expensive silver, without a doubt. He flicked his own cigarette into it. The air inside was stuffy, hot and smelling of perfume and alcohol; though he was not one to turn down an invitation like this, the sheer number of people heād been introduced to was a bit overwhelming.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Zachary wasnāt here on work duty, of course. Everything was very much off-the-record during the event. Still, there were hands to shake and new faces to greet as the newly appointed Editor-in-Chief; a year had passed since his promotion, yet he was still considered new to the ropes. Did the subtle condescending attitude of the more senior members of the press stem from just precisely that ā- their seniority? Or them being white while he was a man of color? (A combination of both, Zach suspected.) When he realized his cheeks were practically sore from all the smiling he was doing, he decided it was time for some fresh air and quiet. And a smoke. He was not alone in this, it seemed.Ā
Ā āHavenāt you heard? Her Majesty bugs the glasses and ashtrays so she can keep tabs on her guests. Youād be bringing your enemy into your home.ā Heaven forbid her attempt at humor was part of the monarchyās attempt to claw back control. Rebecca hadnāt sought a private moment with the journalist in the hopeās of dunking on her kind hosts - her nicotine addiction called, and she answered with glee. That, and a desire to breathe air that was not weighed down by a myriad of expensive perfumes and colognes (hers, included). Besides, one could only take a certain amount of dull elderly white men, at a time.Ā āIām sure jokes about nicking silver has earned you a rabid fan base in there.ā Opening a deep red clutch, she retrieves her sacred cigarettes; retrieving one for herself, she shakes the box in Zacharyās direction.Ā āCare for a cigarette? Theyāre Taiwanese - click the top part twice and you get a mint flavor.āĀ
Rebecca Fukunaga, daughter of the Duchess of Richleau and CFO ofĀ Fukunaga-Mitsui Financial Groups, wears a custom Fabian Marzara gown. Her appearance at the event, marks her official return to the British social scene. The previous two months have been dedicated to the opening of the Fukunaga-Mitsui London Office, and little else. She arrives alone, though sheāll gladly leave with your wife.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā THERE Ā WERE Ā A Ā MILLION Ā AND Ā ONE Ā WAYS Ā that Ā isadora Ā would Ā have Ā preferred Ā to Ā ring Ā in Ā the Ā new Ā year ; Ā invitation Ā upon Ā invitation Ā had Ā been Ā bestowed Ā upon the Ā marchioness Ā since Ā august Ā and Ā yet Ā here Ā she Ā was, Ā at Ā the Ā only Ā one Ā she Ā had Ā not Ā looked Ā forward Ā to Ā attending. Ā a Ā glass Ā of Ā champers Ā perched Ā at Ā her Ā lips, Ā she Ā attempted, Ā with Ā meticulous Ā execution, Ā to Ā appear Ā interested Ā in Ā lord Ā scales Ā newly Ā sculptured Ā gardens Ā at Ā his Ā bahamas Ā residence. Ā clocking Ā a Ā familiar Ā figure Ā across Ā the Ā ballroom, Ā isadora Ā quickly Ā made Ā her Ā excuses Ā and Ā parted Ā from Ā the Ā tedious Ā conversation. Ā Ā ā Ā thank Ā goodness Ā youāre Ā here, Ā i Ā was Ā starting Ā to Ā feel Ā my Ā ears Ā bleed Ā !! Ā if Ā i Ā have Ā to Ā listenĀ about Ā that Ā mans Ā bloody Ā mangrove Ā trees Ā one Ā more Ā time Ā iād Ā have Ā half Ā a Ā mind Ā to Ā impale Ā him Ā on Ā one.Ā Ā ā Ā she Ā grumbled, Ā yet Ā her Ā irritation Ā was Ā quick Ā to Ā dissipate Ā in Ā present Ā company Ā and Ā a Ā smile Ā curled Ā upon Ā her Ā crimson Ā lips. Ā ā Ā anyway ⦠ you Ā look Ā ravishing Ā tonight. Ā ā
Ā She paid little mind to comic book heroes as a child, but she felt a vague kinship with the thrill of heroics - upon serving as a point of rescue for Isadora.Ā āI must beg Her Majesty the Queen to outlaw old geezers the right to speak at parties.ā Rebecca relished an opportunity to mingle amongst her peers as much as any lady; the price one paid for such a privilege, came in the form of Lord Scales and his many, many counterparts.Ā āYou flatter me too often dear, but I will accept the compliment from a woman as fashionable as yourself. How many offers to steal you away from Bertie, have you received thus far?ā Gently stopping a nearby waiter with a genial smile and pointed gaze, she replaced her empty glass of champagne with a freshly poured one. It had been several years since Rebecca had passed into a New Year in England - though half the company was dull and the other quarter probably found her an interloper, the population that remained, she cherished.Ā āIām glad you havenāt changed in the slightest, Isadora. Save for impossibly getting younger, that is.ā
Biography
CHARACTER NAME: Rebecca Ayumi FukunagaĀ
CHARACTER TITLE and/or OCCUPATION: Lady Rebecca Welch; CFO of Fukugana-Mitsui Financial Groups intl. Branch - currently helming the London officeĀ
AGE & D.OB.: twenty nineĀ
SEXUALITY: bisexualĀ
FACECLAIM: Sonoya MizunoĀ
What are their thoughts toward the monarchy and sovereign?: Rebecca has great reverence for the monarchy - but finds the English to be outdated, especially in comparison to the Japanese royal family. They have an unbroken line of history and continued relevance to society, in Rebeccaās eyes - while the English family, fraught with scandal, death, and missteps, fails to demonstrate its legitimacy. She respects the Queen for the radical nature of a female monarch (not an anomaly in the least, but still more uncommon then not in English history) but believes her slipping. The tragedy of Carolineās death further cemented in Rebeccaās mind that the royal family is in dire need of rehabilitation, lest they become muted, tragic figures of the past; rather than relevant players in Englandās present. As the crown is vulnerable, she sees it as an opportunity to strengthen her fatherās empire - and take hold of England, behind the scenes
How is your character viewed by the press? Be sure to include both negative and positive qualities: Rebecca fascinates the British press. Her parents scandalous union was well covered, but otherwise forgotten until Rebecca made her grand debut. She is viewed as exotic, unique, beautiful in an oriental manner - fetishisized, to the max. Her sleek style and gracious manners receive good press, as do her shrewd business deals and massive wealth. Yet their love-affair with her foreignness, breeds mistrust and cancerous gossip. Rebeccaās intentions in England are scrutinized, as is her legitimacy as an English woman - raised elsewhere, with a Japanese family name, and far too exotic looking to truly be English. Rebecca is mistrusted by half of the British press, and beloved by the other; the pair combined, create a toxic newstorm surrounding her person. Her return to England was well reported, though Rebecca is in no regards, the most followed aristocrat - something she both loves, and hates. She wants to be taken seriously as a businesswoman, while unable to suppress the desire to be followed and adored.Ā
---
Ā Rebecca is a Japenese-British sensation, finally settled on English shores. Her mother is the Duchess Amelia of Richleau, a respected aristocratic British family - originally French, before fleeing to England during the 18th century. Hideo Fukunaga (proudly proclaims he is descended from a former, powerful Shogunate family) carved out a business empire in Tokyo; in the wake of WWII, Japan was transformed into an industrial titan. Rebeccaās mother and father met during a business trip that took them both to Paris - the city of love created a safe haven for their romance to blossom. Japan still bore the scars of its WWII crimes, and of the hideous bombing by the West (America dropped the bomb, to thunderous applause) while racist sentiments ran deep in Britain towards the Japanese. Their love was a scandal, and frowned upon by many - Rebecca married Hideo nonetheless, though he demanded their children be raised upon Japanese soil. Relenting to her husbands desires, the pair have mainly resided in Tokyo for the past thirty five years.
The first child was a boy, named James - it was he who would overtake their motherās title, once she passed. James left Tokyo at eighteen, and never looked back. An older sister Megumi was born five years before Rebecca; her father relented to give her an English name, being satisfied his first born daughter bore a Japanese one . Rebecca grew up to symbolize the two worlds that had produced her - Western name, Japanese face (as she was to be proclaimed in newspapers later on). Her sister mainly rejected England, preferring to be Japanese - a difficulty, being their incredibly obvious happa status. The pair were too rich and beloved to be encumbered by the stigmatization many happas faced, but they always suffered a degree of separation from their classmates and peers. Rebecca distinguished herself at an early age for being two things : too clever for her own good, and torn between her two worlds. Her grandmother always quipped she had a Japanese soul, but was destined to be a good, English bride.Ā
She learned how to play into the side of herself that was most palpable for who she was with - the English that adored her foreignness, or wished her to be the proper English LadyĀ - and vice versa, in the company of Japanese. Rebecca excelled in school, while her sister was primed to marry a rich man; something she has been successful in, though has grown deeply unhappy. Rebecca and her sister shared an unparalleled bond - both because they get along so swimmingly, and because there are few in the world who understand what it is like to be biracial (at the time) and never quite belonging, no matter where you areĀ
Rebecca attended Oxford, formally make her debut on the English scene; though she had visited her motherās country many times in her youth, it would be the first time sheād reside on English shores. She attended banquets, garden parties and balls. Her presence seemed to be everywhere; making the second daughter of the aloof Duchess a figure that could not be ignored. She was coy, mysterious and elegantly dressedĀ - divulging little about herself, helped build a mystical brand. Ā Bright (as noted on her reports by professors) she majored in economics, setting her sights on a future in business. Marriage was on her mind as much as studies - Rebecca came close with a reputable young man, but his desire to sculpt into Rebecca into a person she didnāt know, ended the relationship.Ā
She returned for three years to Tokyo, in order to claim a position in her fatherās empire - she would never inherit her motherās title, and thus chose her fatherās business as her inheritance. Nepotism handed her a position, but hard work and savvy allowed her to command respect, and begin to claw out a reputation on her own merits. Enjoying money (hehe, me too) she chose to helm her fatherās bank - and eyes a partner position, when the time is right. Japan offers England an alluring line of credit, its economy booming to heights no one could have fathomed. Japan is arguably never richer in its history, then it is during this moment; seeking to capitalize on this momentum, she has decided to return to England, in order to firmly establish the London branch of the bank. Her motivations for returning are not strictly business however; for however deep her Tokyo ties run, Rebeccaās heart could not deny its English ties, and with the increasing pressure to pick her citizenship, she want to come home, if only for a spell - to try and fathom what decision is best.Ā
Rebecca also returns, to seek out Megumiās husbandās mistress - the woman has allegedly born him a child, and lives in a lavish London apartment. At the behest of her sister, she wants to find the pair; whether to silence them or use the evidence to free her sister from a loveless marriage, she does not yet \
Ā Fast (and loose, like solo) facts :Ā
Retains her British and Japanese citizenship through a legal loophole; but on her 30th birthday, she will be forced to decide (per Japan law) which citizenship she will forfeitĀ
Her fatherās fortune is whispered to be linked to Yakuza deals
Loves the sea - weeks are lost at her beach cottage reading, swimming and drinkingĀ
Sheās an exceptional equestrian and hunting enthusiastĀ
Fluent in English, Japanese and FrenchĀ
Sheās lonely as hell, but canāt see herself finding someone that doesnāt desire her for the wrong reasonsĀ

Introduction below the cut ! Looking forward to plotting with everyone, sorry this is so long jajajaj open to any and all connections (chatting here or discord!)Ā
āI love dance, but acting was always an inner ambition. The ballet world is so closed, and there was so much more I wanted to do. The thing about being a dancer turned actor is that you know what hard work is. Itās true. And Iām so fucking grateful for that. In dancing, you can work hard and improve and see the results. With acting, you can work hard and itās still luck of the draw.ā ā Sonoya Mizuno.
