Tatiana Troyanos as Eboli "O don fatale" Don Carlo Coming up this weekend on Saturday Afternoon at the Opera I'm the lucky guest host! The opera is Simon Boccanegra. I'm particularly excited to be featuring the great American mezzo-soprano Tatiana Troyanos. The fullness of her instrument from top to bottom is thrilling.

It's day three of my Hip Hop Intensive. As a woman, staring over the cliff of being 50, I wanted to rediscover my sense of fun and adventure through this style of dance. The class is great, the teacher is great, and I am terrible. I think this sounds like how I look doing hip hop.

Prop list for a ten minute ring cycle

Writer/broadcaster Rebecca Hass went to the NPAC conference and brought back some observations about photographers and freelancing.

With all the lay offs for staff photographers in the last years, it's been really tough.  It made me ask the question, is freelancing terrible news, or is it a chance to celebrate?  I think I work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40. I'm pro freelancing, you?

Press event Tuesday for SKAM Bike Ride. The Ring In 10 will be there promoting our shows.  Here I am trying out my best Hojotoho! in an old Hallowe'en costume viking hat.

Let's write a piece of theatre!

Confession: A few months back I succumbed to temptation and pitched an idea for Bike Ride-a really great little local theatre event here in Victoria BC.  I've always been tempted to see if I could write and produce and perform a  little miniature.

What is it? 

Bike Ride is a series of short shows presented along the Galloping Goose Trail and people ride from show to show.  You can see three and hour.

What was my inspired but reckless idea? 

To tell the story and give some musical tastes of Wagners Ring Cycle in 10 minutes.  The entire Ring is  four operas and lasts 17 plus hours.  I have a little over 2 minutes per opera to do all four.  

OF COURSE this pitch was successful.  

Just summarizing them to some sort of manageable size, let alone finding the musical bits (leitmotifs) to sing, props, costumes, has taken the better part of two months of procrastination.  

The most productive day that finally kickstarted me? Stuck at a Husky in Golden BC, with four hours to kill for the all night bus to Vancouver.  

Creative Tip: Want to get something done? Put yourself in a place where there is NOTHING else to do.
