surprisingly, poe’s reassurance works. finn feels himself grounded into the space under his feet, feels himself settle into his skin, bones not thrumming with anxiety anymore, instead filled with a golden shade of warmth. he is still here. there is no wrong answer. he is still here.

without poe’s weight on him, finn is struck with how much he misses it. he likes it, being close like that, he likes that their heats intermingle, that their bodies found comfort in each other——— is that love? perhaps. it could grow to be, he thinks. he wants it to be.

dark eyes catch poe’s own, befuddlement all but washed away by the waves of hope, of want. it is only inexperience that holds him back, a fundamental lack of understanding on what happens next that keeps him waiting, looking at poe for some sort of guidance and oh——— oh, a kiss will surely do. it’s sweet and soft, a promise unspoken but tangible in the space between their bodies and finn holds on, he reaches out, hands curling tight around poe’s own as he chases the pressure, blinking when it fades away.

❝it’s okay with me. it’s really okay——— kiss me again. please.❞

“ your wish is my command. “ he would bend the stars and the galaxy itself to give finn what he asked for, and this one request was so simple and something that poe wanted so much he could feel the desire like a weight on his body. leaning in and pressing his lips to finn’s is the simplest thing in the world, easier even than flying and just as natural as the first time he got in the cockpit of his own ship. like they were destined for one another and every kiss before this one was just practice. his hand moved slowly, not wanting to press finn for more than he was ready for, and cupped his cheek gently, thumb stroking the smooth skin under his eye and when poe pulled away he couldn’t let himself go far, gravity pulling him back towards finn after only a brief moment of sucking in a breath.

he wanted to push, wanted to lose himself in the kiss like he usually did with other people, just threw his body into the encounter without a worry in the world but this wasn’t just anyone. this was finn. finn who saved him, finn who he saved. so he stays where he is, legs and ass firmly planted on the bed beside finn and tilted his neck so they could, hopefully, avoid bumping their noses together. his tongues moved, seemingly beyond his control now, to move along the other man’s lower lip, there was no single part of this man poe didn’t want to explore.

the need for air took over far too quickly and forced poe to sit back slightly, their lips still just inches apart and even that space felt like too much. “ gonna have to be careful, think i could get a little too into doing that. might forget something important because i’m too busy kissin’ you. “

in the quietude, his laughter rings clear and loud and bright. the sun may be hours away yet but between the two of them and the warmth of their affection for each other, there is a light held with gentle hands, emanating from their sternum to bathe them in shades of gold. their happiness is limitless, stretched infinitely over parsecs of space.

❝you’re going to have to explain it to her then. be prepared for her to reach through the force and hit you.❞ roleplaying with jedi robes. the thought is too absurd to be truly arousing, the mental image of them with the long shapeless robes, walking with an almost pompous air takes away the sensuality of the scene. ❝besides, aren’t they not allowed to have sex? wearing their robes seem sacrilegious.❞

the quip is met with a kiss that finn’s keen to return. he takes the opportunity to sneak more than was given, deepening with a tilt of the head, letting his tongue slide along the seam to turn in lazy and slow as opposed to sweet and soft. once the air’s burnt from his lungs, he pulls back to let the curve of his lips say all that he wants to. they fall back into idleness though his hands continue their soft stroking, as though anchoring with each pssover on poe’s skin.

❝you’re good people too.❞ a pause. a quick peck he can’t stop himself from imparting. ❝and i wanna know about you. your family. did they tell you about their time in the resistance? you were born before it ended, right?❞

“ think i can do it, you not have faith in me? i’m so hurt, finn. “ poe’s good with words, he knows that people like him and though he has never once used that to manipulate or get them to do what he wants but he likes to think that borrowing a set of robs from rey doesn’t count as something he should avoid using his nice smile for.

it’s not that he thinks rey would actually cause him any harm, wouldn’t ever dream of that, she’s good just like finn is but the teasing is fun, it’s lighter and that’s what he needs right now. not the bigger questions about the ramifications of war and what being a soldier does to someone. “ i’ll take the slaps. though she may be capable of hurting me. will you nurse me back to health? “ tilting his head back so that his lips press the underside of finn’s jaw he smiles up at the man he loves and sighs, content and happy.

force this man is too much for him, he’s human and real and he’s here and poe will never get used to that. his hand traces lazy circles on the arm finn has wrapped around him, after a moment he grew bored of the shape and wrote their names in the skin he could touch. wanting to imprint his touch on his skin so that even if the galaxy tore them apart again they would carry around a part of each other.

“ yeah, i was but i was really young so i don’t really remember any of the fighting. they didn’t like to talk about it much, think part of them just wanted to pretend they hadn’t seen the bad things and could go on with their lives like it didn’t happen. but i’ve always been so proud of them for fighting, they’re always my heroes. “

hi hey i’m so sorry i’ve been ridiculously bad about being here recently and i’m sure i’ve accidentally dropped a hundred threads by now but please don’t take that personally i’m just a nightmare really but here’s some stuff

this blog is probably going to, for the most part, stay fairly low activity for a while. historically with low activity blogs that means i will jump on a clear out my drafts once a week or so and then stuff them in the queue but i won’t really make too many starter calls or reblog that many memes.

this is not personal or a reflection of my lack of interest at all

but that being said

he’s not sure which is more jarring: the surprise or the way the words settle into his bones, as though already confident of the home they have within him.

( perish the thought that he’d turn poe away but which part of him, which organs, which factions of his own body and soul, had realised before his brain? )

❝poe.❞ words flee from him, from the maelstrom of emotions that currently reside on top of his diaphragm, pinning it in place and sucking all the air out from his lungs. poe’s name sounds like a prayer, a breathless exaltation that’s camouflaged by confusion. there’s no denying that he feels some sort of way for poe——— it’s what drove him here, it’s what has finn cradling him, making promises, feeling butterflies where his stomach should be but it’s entirely different to hear it put into words.

to ring true the strength and intensity of what he feels. perhaps he had been naive to think they can exist in this limbo, in this in between area when they’ve been hurtling themselves right towards this moment. ❝that’s—that was our second meeting.❞

❝i mean, it’s just— since then? not that— it’s okay, i mean— it’s more than okay, it’s. i don’t know how to put into words exactly how okay it is because i— i care about you, a lot. i’m here aren’t i? still?❞

when he finally drags his gaze up to poe, when their eyes meet and swarthy copper bathes in the warm room light to reveal hope anew, well. there’s wanting there and poe’s close enough to fulfil his wishes.

poe smiles and lowers his lashes. “ yeah, yeah you’re still here. “ he sits up on his bed now, wanting to be sitting on his own without the comforting presence of finn on his skin if they’re going to actually talk about this, except that the comforting presence of finn’s skin on his is actually all he wants. all he craves.

he had meant it when he told the younger man he didn’t need to hear it back, really he didn’t, though he would like to hear it it matters far more to him that finn say it when he means it. when he’s certain of his feelings for him not when he feels backed into a corner.

they’re so close, so close now that he can’t barely even suck in a breath that doesn’t taste like finn and, well, what’s the point in pretending that he doesn’t want that. he’s already said he loves him. not much more he can do about that. so he closes the distance, presses his lips gently to finn’s for just a moment before he pulls back, wanting to give him space in case he was crowding him too much.

“ i love you and i like you and i really want to kiss you basically all the time. “ he fights for love, he fights because he refuses to let hate rule him. even the people that he should hate he’s not so sure that he does. he wants to protect and loving someone else only makes him stronger, more resilient. “ if that’s okay with you. “

❝oh, how will i live with the shame,❞ finn laments, though the deadpan delivery and almost rueful twist at the corners of his lips give away his amusement. it scarcely matters that he be a good pilot, in fact, finn’s yet to tell poe this but the first order didn’t think so, why should this time be any different? if he’s honest with himself, the biggest pull of being in the skies is to do it with poe because the very thought causes butterflies to burst through his stomach lining and cause mini-hurricanes with their wings.

in the temporal silence, finn sends a look of thanks and waits patiently for further instructions. as he studies poe’s profile, he can’t help but be in awe of how comfortable the other looks strapped in. there’s something confident, something settled about the gentle slope of his shoulders, the sharp curve of his jaw. those brown eyes are bathed in an exuberance for something familiar, anticipation of a homecoming——— it’s difficult to tear his own gaze away.

he does, finally, lest he wants to miss anymore instructions and make this his first and last time piloting an x-wing. looking down at the mess of buttons and switches on his consoles, he isolates the few poe identifies and begins flipping them. the engine whines to life, he can feel the seat vibrate ever so slightly.

❝sounds simple enough.❞ finn puts both hands on the steering and pushes

poe watches his every movement very carefully, he will joke and tease and flirt but he has no desire for either of them to be in really danger, especially danger that’s his fault because he was too distracted flirting with finn to notice if he hit the wrong switch. and then they’re moving, maybe a little bit too fast when they’re not even outside the hanger yet but hey, everyone manages to jump out of the way in time which is truly the most important thing.

“ woah, woah, hey just slow down, yeah? take is nice and easy. if you want to just pilot around the runway before taking off that’s okay too. “ he smiles at him, wanting to be reassuring and patient with him as they try and learn this. it’s a lot of power to suddenly be in charge of. a giant ship that flies and shoots and can destroy lives and cities if used by the wrong people is not something that can just be taken for granted.

“ you’re doing good, finn, perfect. just take it slow. “ he reaches over to squeeze the other man’s shoulder, feeling the warmth of his skin even through the jacket he wears. his jacket. no. it’s finn’s now. “ when you’re ready point the ship towards the edge of camp and start to pick up speed. “

finn doesn’t so much hear poe’s words as he feels it, reverberate from his chest to finn’s open palm, tremors of the whisper that cuts through the night settling somewhere in the hollow of finn’s very bones. he closes his eyes and he can see the snapshots painted from poe’s lips to his mind’s eye.

a childhood from a time before the war, from a time not quite untouched by the savagery of battle but close enough to victory that peace is an option around the corner. the pendulum swing of history has them residing in that very moment, right now. finn makes good use of it.

❝well———❞ the word drips like molasses, a slow stretch of the syllable, oven warmed and blanketing them as they are right now, sharing as close a body as they can. ❝i for one am disappointed you’re not a jedi. the robes are pretty cool.❞

for how deadpan he delivers the line, there can be no denying the smugness that emanates off him, the curve of a smile etching itself into poe’s skin. he loves him. he loves him in ways words cannot even manage to express. finn loves him the way you’d love a home, the way you’d love safety and peace. the way the sun rises and sets, everyday, without fail.

in the silence following his huff of amusement, finn traces out his name on poe’s knee, careful strokes of his fingers over dry skin. ❝did you— did you know him, before?❞

he’s comforted less by the memories of a peaceful childhood and the presence of finn at his back and more by the potential of a peaceful future with finn beside him. they’ve fought for this, fought each other and the galaxy to get to this place. his mother would want that for him and she would want that for finn as well too if she got the chance to meet him. she would love him too of that he was certain.

“ you’re right, wonder if we can find any around here? maybe get a hold of rey and see if she’ll send us a few pairs. could be fun to do a little roleplay you know. “ poe laughed, light and he imagines sometimes that when he’s happy the stars themselves know and they grow closer to see the joy their an audience too. but his smile is nothing compared to finn’s so he tilts his head, presses a kiss to the other man’s neck and looks at him with love in his eyes.

“ luke? yes. a little. or han? a little better. my...the general, han, and luke were friends with my parents when i was very young. during the first rebellion. i met them a few times. “ talking about the loss of han was still hard, he hadn’t been as close to that man as he had been with leia but he felt her pain at his loss, empathy ran in his blood and he could never seem to stop feeling the pain of other people.
