"The majority of the adjectives we commonly associate with Lewis are radioactive, mercurial, volatile, erratic, impulsive, romantic, heroic, moody, self-absorbed, self-punishing, reflective, brilliant, reckless, headstrong, anxious...hyper-serious and turbulent."
-Clay S. Jenkinson in his book "The Character of Meriwether Lewis: Explorer in the Wilderness"
From The Character of Meriwether Lewis by Clay Jenkinson. I love this. You don’t normally see professional historians admitting to what they wish had happened, and I’m all with him ❤️
Is it obvious I don’t draw telescopes much? lol anyways happy Lewis and Clark month featuring our favorite boys
Meriwether Lewis at the Pacific Ocean
This is relevant to my last post
(Meriwether Lewis is hot old men)
Some M.L. Doodles plus one little uncolored Clarky
M.L. is fun to draw and he’s 🔥 soooo 🤷🏻♀️ here we are
Thinking about what exactly M.L.’s voice sounded like. I want to hear that southern drawl 😂
I also want to just say I’m so obsessed with ur art ❤️
Awwww 🥹
I’ve never really known anything about Lewis and Clark but I’m reading undaunted courage and OMG IM SO HOOKED. Do you have any other good book recs?
Ooooh great question!
My favorite nonfiction books about Lewis and Clark:
The character of Meriwether Lewis by Clay S. Jenkinson, Lewis and Clark: Partners in Discovery by John Bakeless, Meriwether Lewis by Thomas Danisi, and Meriwether Lewis by Richard Dillon
My favorite fiction books about Lewis and Clark:
Meriwether by David Nevin, Eclipse by Richard Wheeler, The Captain’s Dog by Roland Smith, and Signtalker by James Alexander Thom, as well as the graphic novel Lewis & Clark by Nick Bertozzi!
One small sound, one small sight
One unsheathed knife must glint
In an alternate timeline's light
One rust-ridden blade juts out
Of a friendly moonstruck shape
To tear, tear terribly, terribly, tеar, tear terribly
The dеlicate crepe of night
Familiarity breeds indifference
Familiarity breeds discontent
Familiarity breeds indifference
Familiarity breeds discontent
“November” by Sparkbird is such a Meriwether Lewis song, kind of inspired this drawing, and I’m adding it to my playlist for him 🪶🐦⬛
Imagine your favorite historical figure yelling at people in a bar for someone to fight them
Current wip, still needs more details and to be linearted and colored
Featuring: Meriwether Lewis and his obsession with birds (I’ve been reading Clay S. Jenkinson’s the Character of ML again)
Ugh I love this nerdy bird man
Literally the more I read about Lewis the more I am convinced he could have had ASD
I need all my Meriwether Lewis people to come and tell me what they imagine Meriwether Lewis looked like??? Hair color? Lip shape? Eye color? Eyelash length? Height???? PLEASE get as specific as you want I’m listening and so ready 🥹
i feel like, while lewis wanted fame and glory, he also couldnt bear to be by himself and thats why when he was kicked out of clark and julia's house he 'hired' pernier and eventually killed himself. he felt rejected by everyone in his life, even when people denied such notions, and saw no other way out other than death.
Um, anyway
