Finally a starter for @rebelmewniprincess. Took us long enough to have this since we decided to rp as Star and Marco at the same time.

The party was starting to run down, but it’s still going when they’re interrupted, by Star’s father bursting into the room quite suddenly through a portal.

And he looks… distressed.

Everyone left here goes silent.

River went straight for Marco- Jackie taking a step back at the approach of Star’s father- and Marco is confused and… worried at the expression on the Meman King’s face. 

            “River?” Marco stares at him, not really understanding when he’s doing here, or what could possibly be wrong.

                          “Where’s Star?” He asks with no hesitation, seeming rather in a hurry; and now that he’s close Marco can see that he’s almost is tears.

What is going on?

            “She’s- She’s upstairs in her room, I think?”

Without another word, River starts barrelling up the stairs, and with almost no hesitation, Marco follows him up.

Whatever this is, it’s not good. He doesn’t just want to leave it alone. To leave Star to deal with whatever this is without him. Despite how weird things were for a bit because of Song Day, she is his best friend. He wants to be there for her with whatever is wrong.

River doesn’t even really seem aware that Marco is following him, just charging into Star’s room.

                        “Star!” He bellows, tears now evident in his voice. “I- Y-Your mother- The commission- There was- And- Ludo- Star-” River lets out a very loud sob, hiding his face in his hands. “Star, your mother is dead!”

“Uhhhhhhhh…”

Initially, Star had come up to her room early from the party to avoid blurting out an accidental confession to her best friend and watch said best friend with his girlfriend. Both of whom were very happy together.

Star was just needing some of her own space to clear her head.

She certainly hadn’t been expecting her father to show up in the middle of the Diaz’s party. Much less did she expect him to be in the state he was in now. Sure her dad was the emotional one between her parents but whatever it was he had to say seemed to distress him.

And when he finally manages to blurt out what was wrong, the mewni princess froze, unwilling to believe it. There was no way her mother, Moon the Undaunted, awesome warrior queen, was dead. It just wasn’t possible.

“Dad? Dad calm down! I’m sure it is just a misunderstanding and someone slipped you some bad corn. Here, watch.” Pulling the curtain off her mirror, she clears her throat, “Mirror? Call Mom.“ 

The screen rings a few times before cutting out, causing Star to frown. “Marco did you use up all my minutes again? Cause this is taking way longer than it should. Mom always picks up, cause that’s what moms do obviously. Mommies always pick up when their daughters call them. It’s like rule one of mom. Especially my mom.” She tries her mother again, continuing to ramble and tapping her foot impatiently on the ground, waiting for an answer she wasn’t going to get.

Dipper laughs nervously at her bizarrely specific statement about an interdimensional demon. “No Siree not me. Just a normal not at demonic human here.”

At least he thinks he’s not at all demonic. He’s not 100% sure what Bill did to him.

“Though there is one of those around around here. His name is Bill and you should watch out for him. He’s a real jerk.”

Jerk is an understatement, but Dipper doesn’t really want to get into it right now.

“Yeah, just like the constellation…” He mutters. “That’s why I’m called Dipper. I have been since I was a little kid. No one ever uses my real name…” He lets out a slight laugh. “Not the worst nickname in the world to be branded with as a child, that’s for sure.It’s honestly weird for anyone to call me by my real name, so I don’t even share it anymore.” He shrugs, starting to walk through the forest.

“Oh, the multibear isn’t even the weirdest thing in Gravity Falls!” Dipper says excitedly, and tucks the journal back away. “But yeah, he has one stomach, and can eat with any of his faces. We have similar tastes in music, so he’s cool to talk to!” Dipper charges forward, happy to have someone just as interested as him around for once…

And he trips in his excitement. Over a gnome, who starts shouting angrily at him.

Huffing slightly, Dipper picks him up. “Behold. A Gnome.” He says flatly, then throws the gnome as hard as he can.

“They’re kinda annoying. Not worth our time. Also if they noticed you they might try to get you to marry them. They’ve been looking for a new Queen all summer.”

“Pffft, his name is Bill...” It doesn’t necessarily scream ‘I’m evil’ but then again neither does Toffee. 

“To be fair, only a demon bent on destroying the universe isn’t cool. My ex was a demon, he has anger issues but he’s cool. That’s a story for another time though,” she states offhandedly while looking back at their surroundings curiously. Though the knowledge there was an interdimensional demon bent on destroying the universe was enlightening. She’d need to keep an eye out for that.

At the gnome she gasps in amazement. It was so tiny... and angry. Though at the marriage proposal, her nose wrinkles in displeasure. 

“Bleh. Are you joking? Well we can definitely cross visiting them off our list. I’m already in line for my own crown and I don’t want the hassle of two kingdoms thank you very much.” Plus she didn’t want to marry some gnomes, or get harassed to be a new queen for the duration she was here.

Back to the matter at hand, she taps her chin in thought. “So will I have to greet every face of the multibear? And how’d you find him anyways. Were you both at the same concert? Was it Love Sentence? I bet it was Love Sentence.” After all what other way was there to meet someone and realize they had the same taste in music.

Despite the princess’ words, the way her hands tighten around the wand fail to escape Toffee’s notice. It’s telling enough. But for now, he chooses not to comment on that.

The monster just waits and listens. Then he smiles faintly. “High praise coming from you,” Toffee said, folding Ludo’s arms behind his back. “Star the Underestimated–I believe that’s what the old man mentioned before. Not a bad title to have.” One claw began idly scratching at the wand’s crystal shard embedded in his hand, hidden behind Ludo’s back. “Being underestimated can prove more useful than being correctly evaluated.”

Her nose wrinkled in displeasure at the title, eyes flicking away for a second before focusing once more on the villain. “I guess you’re right. After all you didn’t expect that I could put up a fight did you,” She huffed and crossed her arms in defiance. She should have expected that he would be able to give her a backhanded compliment. But if she was going to keep her cool, she couldn’t let Toffee get to her.

“Though not gonna lie, it is weird to see you you uhhhh... like this. Your voice coming out of Ludo’s mouth. A little awkward. Makes me wonder if Ludo’s voice would be stuck in your body or whatever.” She didn’t know how Toffee was doing what he was doing, possessing Ludo when for all intents and purposes he should be dead. The princess wanted to find out though. She might be young but she hoped she’d be able to make him tell her something.

The time following Toffee’s return had been beyond troubling for the Queen. There was far more at stake now. Toffee knew that and he had chosen to prey on such fears in their entirety. River continued to aid with the management of the kingdom in her absence and assisted with the Royal Guard. They were bracing for an untimely war. With tenuous relations between the Butterfly Kingdom and The Waterfolk, now was hardly the time for a battle. Toffee’s timing had been impeccable, catching the Kingdom when it was at its most strained. In such arduous conditions, the septarian had orchestrated a fight that would surely sway in his favour now that he had half of the wand as leverage.

 And, of course, in the middle of the politics and conflict was her little Star. Star, with a broken wand, no spellbook or even Glossaryk for guidance. They had truly been left to fend for themselves.

 Toffee’s words had been seared into her memory once he had single-handedly decimated Magical High Commission. 

 Tell Star I’m coming for my finger. 

 It was a threat. He was going to try and destroy her kingdom by taking what she cared for the most: her child. Moon would not allow it. 

 After three days of absence due to a much required visit to Castle Avarius, Moon returned to the Butterfly kingdom. In a fluid motion she dismounted her warnicorn and lowered the hood of her cloak, allowing servants to flit over and take the creature to the stables as she strode past them into the castle hallways. Not long after her return, a familiar voice called out, echoing across the wide space between them. Despite the circumstance and how effectively her distanced queenly performance made her seem at times, Moon had missed hearing that little voice after so long. The castle had felt particularly empty without its princess whilst Star had been on Earth.

 "Mom, mom! I’m ready to fight Toffee!“ 

 Any calm that might have returned to the Queen at the familiarity of home was soon shattered by those words. Such hope and eagerness was endearing, but in light of the topic it came across as sheer ignorance. Star had no clue what she was talking about. Moon battled the darkness that threatened to shadow her features, reeling it back with all the patience she could muster. It was not Star’s fault. The girl could not help the nature of their situation and Moon certainly would not take her frustrations out on her. 

 "Star…” She began evenly, aware of how her lowered hair and bedraggled cloak must look to the child whom she always harped on to about appearances. “Toffee is unlike anything we have faced before. He is much stronger now than ever before.” 

The queen stepped forward, reaching out with slim fingers to brush back her daughter’s golden hair in a rare flicker of affection. “I brought you home to keep you safe.” She continued calmly. 

“With matters so serious, I need you to work with me rather than against me. Can you do that?”

Dismissal was something she’d been expecting, but she was fully ready to explain herself and make her mom see that she was being completely rational. “I get that mom! And this is me being on your side.” No matter what Star said or how she acted, she loved her mother. And while it was super annoying being coddled but she could understand where the queen was coming from. This was her mom, of course she wanted her to be safe, but this wasn’t the time to play it safe and keep kid gloves for her sake. She wasn’t that little toddler bouncing around in her pigtails, pudgy hand firmly grasping at her mother’s dress so she wouldn’t get lost. These enemies weren’t plushies that guards could rip their heads off in one quick swoop. 

Those days were over.

This was real. 

What’s worse is people were acting like she was still that kid and keeping her out of the castle business. Star was fully capable of handling herself and the past few months on Earth could prove that. With a determined glint in her eye, she didn’t move away from the gentle pet but rather looked at her parent eagerly. 

“I know he’s strong. But you’ve beat him before. I’ve beat him before. Together we can stop him! This time for good.” She held up her wand, still battered but worth using in the princess’s opinion, the same affectionate and firm tone influenced her voice, “Mom. We can do this together.”

She wasn’t an idiot. With the visible dishevelment of her mother and just how high strung everyone in the castle is, the foreboding of Toffee and the instilled fear was practically tangible. But beating villains was her thing, and that’s what Toffee was to her, just another bad guy ready to be fought. She knew he wasn’t like others that she had come across. Ludo had no hopes on ever competing with his skills and that ruthlessness that came in a lawyer’s suit. That first meeting, how he was ready to squash Marco flat then the crushed feeling of using the whispering spell. It would stay with her forever.

She wasn’t ready to be queen or to run the kingdom right now, she could acknowledge that. But beating a lizard into a pulp was right up her alley. The only issue was whether her mother believed her or not, that was still up in the air, “I want to help.”

Toffee could sense Ludo’s nightmare while the smaller monster slept. Unpleasant, but Toffee had felt worse. The Septarian monster had been content to leave him alone for the rest of the night, until he felt another’s magic–

Ludo’s eyes snapped open, filled with swirling green, Toffee looking out of them. He sat up in Ludo’s body, and found the All-Seeing Eye spell in use.

“Star,” Toffee said, his smooth, untroubled voice leaving Ludo’s smooth. “This is a pleasant surprise.”

In some ways it truly was. The young princess’ use of one of Eclipsa’s spells provoked a small shred of respect from him.

Toffee made Ludo’s body stand up. “Tell me–how is your mother doing?”

When her mother talked about her encounter with Toffee recently, she mentioned being stuck in the younger monster’s body. And despite the fact it was the familiar face of an easily defeatable foe, it brought her no comfort seeing him with Toffee’s voice spilling out.

At the mention of her mother, her hand tightens around her wand. “Oh ya know. She’s good, being all queeny and what not...” 

Traumatized and even more strict after their fight but not like she was gonna let him know that.

“And you’re looking very.... Ludo-y. Gotta say though the chip bag really brings out the ‘underestimate me’ vibe.“

Even if they were separated and only talking via spell, just being in his presence made her feel uneasy. She didn’t need her mother to tell her what he was capable of. The absence of the high council was proof of that.

She’d only been a few days into fighting boredom, her greatest enemy, before Glossaryck had given her a location to go and leave him be. Apparently opening the spell book repeatedly saying, ‘bored. bored. bored. so bored.’ was enough to get on the wizard’s nerves to get him to try and shut her up. 

Immediately she was bouncing and gathering everything she may need in her backpack. It took some time squishing the mace in but once she was ready, she grinned and cut open a portal with her scissors. Keeping the place her little companion had mentioned in mind, she stepped through and squealed at the large ‘Gravity Falls’ sign. She’d made it to the right place and it was time to go exploring!

She didn’t need to look too long before she found something interesting. Running up to a brunette that looked a bit younger than her, she spoke happily, “Is that a grappling hook? I’ve always seen then in movies but never in real life.” Since she had magic, she really had no need to get one but that still didn’t diminish how awesome she found it.

Running fingers through her hair anxiously, she looks at the scribbles of spells in her notebook. Most of which were her own making, narwhal blast, strawberry annihilation, warnicorn stampede, so on and so forth. But the ones written in blue ink as opposed to the various colors found on the rest of the pages were spells she tried her best to recall from her spell book. One in particular she thinks could be helpful in this dire time.

Closing her eyes, she takes a deep breath to summon her courage. "I summon the All-Seeing Eye, to tear a hole into the sky. Reveal to me that which is hidden. Unveil to me what is forbidden."

It was a spell she knew now, she’d only been saving it until she worked the nerve to use it. Not even her mother knew she was doing this. “Show me.. Toffee.” She wasn’t sure if this communication would even work or if he was warded against it. All she had was a gut full of determination, her scissors, and a hidden chopped off appendage in her bag... Along with a sandwich in case she got hungry.

It was back to her old life. 

Days full of who knows how many new rules were ahead of her now that the impending doom of Toffee was just around the corner. But after that messy ending with Marco, she could use some distraction in her life. Even if said distraction was an evil powerful lizard man that apparently her mother had faced against. Speaking of, she had yet to get the full story from the queen, and if her head was to be believed, that tapestry detailed an incredible battle between the two.

If her mother beat him once... then obviously she could do it again! If Star spent her time focusing on fighting and defeating monsters, she wouldn’t have time to feel sad about leaving earth forever. All she had to do was get some battle tips from the queen, have an epic showdown with the baddest baddie to ever bad, and come home before the corn gets cold.

It was the most energetic she’s felt since returning home, now that she thought she had some direction. Without another thought she ran through the corridors of the palace until she found her mother, “Mom mom! I’m ready to fight Toffee!”

Quickly Dipper jots down  Monsters? and Warnicorns? under a heading of MEWNI, before nodding, and tucking the not pad back away.

He’s gonna ask her a lot of questions later for sure.

“That would be amazing Star! You’d really take someone you just met on adventures to other dimensions?”

He chuckles as she hod over to the tree line, not even a little suprised by her choice. He expected as much from the little bit bit he’s seen on her, though his smile slips a little as she ‘informs’ him that the Big Dipper exists. 

“Yes, I’m aware of both the big and little dipper constellations.” Dipper says, quickly getting a little annoyed. “I own like 3 telescopes back home, and I made my own star map once. I know constellations.”

He pauses, and sighs, taking off his hat for a moment, pushing up his bangs to show his birthmark.

“It’s also the source of my nickname.”

Quickly shaking off the annoyance- why was he even bothered? Mabel’s been much sillier that pointing out that the big dipper exists before, so why was he annoyed at Star?- he puts his back on and smiles at her.

“But thanks anyway. Hm, where to start…” 

He pulls the journal out of his vest, flipping through it. “Oh, I know! I’ll introduce you to the multibear! I bet you’ll like him! Come on!” Excitedly, Dipper charges forward, motioning for Star to follow him.

She grinned and waved her hand in a nonchalant manner, “Psh, well why not! We’re friends aren’t we? I mean, it’s not like you are an inter-dimensional demon bent on destroying the universe or something. Cause that’d be totally weird.” Not to mention she’d have to fight her newfound companion, that wouldn’t be good for their relationship.

She was far enough away to not completely hear the slight venom in the other’s tone. However when he stresses about knowing it she puffs out her cheeks slightly in indignation. Sure she wasn’t completely familiar with the Earth solar system but he didn’t need to make her feel little. 

But the feeling soon passed when he showed her his birthmark.

“Ohhhhhh! That’s super awesome! Just like the constellation~ And lead the way!“ Star hurries up to skip next to the brunette as she looked around the trees, expecting to see some magical thing.

Looking over his shoulder, she gasps at the drawing, “No way! A bear with mulitple heads? How does that even happen on earth? Does he have one stomach? Eat with all his faces?” Already she was excited to meet this new creature.

“Mewni? Given the the question I asked, I have to assume that is another Dimension?” Dipper pulls a notepad and a pen out from his vest, clicking the pem wth a smiles. “What’s it like there? I’ve known other Dimensions exist for a while, but I’ve never actually been to one!” 

He’s certainly interested to learn about other Dimensions, even if he can never go.

Brushing off another thought about stealing the scissor, he nods in agreement at her saying they’ll be friend.

Already she’s coming offs as pretty similar to Mabel, so he’s sure they’ll get along great. Especially if she likes Mysteries.

“I’m sure we will! So where would you like to start this tour The town or the most mysterious places in the woods?”

He pauses, letting out a slight laugh. “A Dipper? I mena, I guess it’s not really a normal name, but still.”

“I’d be happy to take you outta dimensions! And Mewni is alright, spent time fighting monsters, taming wild warnicorns. It’s nothing like Earth, which is super cool in comparison.”

She laughs when she sees him do the same as her and take notes. His curiosity reminds her of Marco whenever they first met, though Dipper definitely seems more willing to keep her around. The fact he wasn’t freaking out was refreshing to the Mewnian.

Bouncing on her feet she hops over to woods, as if she were gonna pass up the more dangerous and mysterious of the choices.

“Woods! And it’s not a normal name, but it’s a super rad name! I don’t know if you know this but apparently there’s a Big Dipper in the sky. Cool coincidence huh?“ Maybe if she stayed after dark she’d be able to show him what she meant in return for him showing her the mystery forest.

“Any dimension? Woah.” Dipper whistles slowly. “That’s certainly impressive.”

SURE IS PINETREE! YOU SHOULD STEAL THEM

The words- despite how sure he is that they aren’t real sets his mind spinning for a moment, as he imagines actually doing so; and the things he could .get p to if he did- but he quickly shakes those thoughts off.

Those are not good thoughts. He’s not even sure that they’re his own.

“You can call me Dipper; and I would hope I know my way around. I’ve only been spending the entire summer trying to solve the mysteries of this town.”

He pauses, tilting his head to the side. “So are you… from another dimension or do you just like visiting them or something?”

She looks human, with the exception of those hearts on her cheeks- but those could just be temporary tattos or something. They look like something Mabel would put on her face.

But she could be from another dimension for all he knows.

“Mhm~ I’m a magical warrior princess from Mewni. And right now I’m just checking out the sights. I’m looking for the coolest places to take my best friend.”

Dipper didn’t have to know that technically she wasn’t supposed to be dimension hopping in the first place. Little details like that were irrelevant. Besides, she was still on Earth right now and her parents’ rules don’t include going out of state. Just out of dimensions.

“I can already tell we’re going to be great friends Dipper! And you should totally give me a tour if it’s not too much trouble. Mysteries are one of my favorite things to do.” 

First of course being fighting monsters and kicking evil butt.

Putting away her scissors and replacing them with a wand in hand, she conjures herself a notebook and clicks the weapon into a pen. “Okie doke, first stop, Gravity Falls and met a Dipper.”

Dipper watches the girl curiously as she looks around, and nervously smiles in return as she beams at him.

“Mm, the townsfolk aren’t the weird ones- relatively speaking- but no I’m not  a bunch of gnomes in a vest.” He chuckles. “But a bunch of gnomes in a hoodie tried to marry my sister once.” 

BUT YOU’RE NOT NORMAL ARE YOU PINETREE!

He tries not to react to the voice screaming in his ear; certain it’s not real, and mostly succeeds, only crossing his arms in response.

“I’m from out of town anyway; I’m staying with my uncle for the summer.” He nods back at the Mystery Shack behind him. “He runs that place. Don’t bother with it if you want actual weirdness of this town. It’s just a tourist trap. None of that is real.”

He nods the other way towards the forest. “There’s plenty real in there though.”

Pausing for a moment, Dipper looks her up and down. “So how’d you get her anyway? I’d have to guess it had something to do with those scissors?”

She doesn’t notice any distress of his as she looks in the direction he nodded toward. Between the homey looking shack and the deep recesses of the forest she wasn’t sure which she wanted to explore first. 

Though, not real weirdness, well she’d have to be sure to remember that. But tourist trap sounds fun. Maybe if she were to bring Marco they could get ‘captured’ and have a blast breaking out of the trap. 

But back to the matter at hand, find the genuine weird.

It’s only when asked about her scissors that she snaps out of her planning. 

“My scissors? Oh yeah, these can cut open portals to any dimension I choose. I was already on Earth but as if I’m gonna take the bus here. Way too long a trip and Marco’s metro card only has so much money.”

On that note she turned and closed the portal behind her before turning to the new guy, “So what should I call you? You definitely seem to know your way around this place even if you’re only here for the summer.”

It had been a few weeks since Dipper had his…

Encounter with Bill.

Since Bill had tricked him. The effects don’t seem to be going away. He thought they would just fade. 

It’s not though. He feels like he’s losing himself, and sometimes he swears he still hears his can hear the evil triangle’s whispers in his ear. 

The hallucinations make him doubt when he sees what … looks like a pair of scissors appearing and cutting through the air.

And a girl, who looks a little older then him and Mabel, steps through.

“Hello?” He says in confusion. This isn’t like any hallucination he’s seen- those have all been Bill related, so he can only assume this is real. 

Far from the oddest thing he’s seen in this town.

“Who are you?”

This had to be one of her best ideas yet. 

Sneaking in the archive of the kingdom library and finding out the weirdest places in the universe would give her a list of all the neat visit spots to take Marco. 

Of course while she had to scope it out first to make sure it wasn’t too extreme for her best friend to handle, finding out one place was on earth was exciting! She may have jumped the gun wanting to explore the little place called Gravity Falls but she regretted nothing. 

Even as she seemed to catch the attention of a town resident.

“Oh! Hi there!” 

At the question she beamed and put her hands on her hips, “I’m Star Butterfly! Here to check out the town, sight see and what not. You know, for a town ranked as highest in weird, you look pretty normal.” 

Though she then looked at him with squinted eyes and pursed lips, “Unless you’re a bunch of gnomes in a vest. Or have an invisible tail I can’t see. But no worries, I won’t judge. One of my best friends is a talking severed unicorn head.”

“Wait... So, do you not want to come home?”

She didn’t know what to think, that Marco would want to stay in some weird dimension. Sure he was older but weren’t they still best friends? The whole time thing was weird but shouldn’t he want to get home and to his life? She wasn’t going to leave without Marco, it was just a matter of talking him in to coming back.

If she was being honest, the dragon cycle was pretty cool and her friend definitely took to that warrior look well. But he wasn’t supposed to grow up like this. Half of her blamed the high council woman but it was her fault for lending him the scissors anyways.
