i must sound like a broken record about this but i really⌠hate the way i see people on this site treat autism and canonically autistic characters like. imagine if someone referred to you the way they do to fictional characters. id go insaneÂ
this goes for ADHD too by all means! treating people (AND characters) with autism/adhd as âsoft precious babiesâ is infantilising and humiliating and makes it seem like we cant take care of ourselves (even if some of us literally cant, in which case its STILL gross and bad, even more so)
Neurotypical folks, if you want to make content about an autistic character, or a character with ADHD, or anything outside the scope of neurotypical, a good way to make sure you portray it with tact and respect is to find an actual autistic person, or a person with ADHD, or whatever neurodivergency youâre portraying.
Ask them to describe their own experience with autism/ADHD/etc, and use what theyâve told you as guidelines for how the character might experience it.
Ask them what sorts of things frustrate them or upset them about how their neurodivergency is usually portrayed, and make a point of avoiding that.
Ask them to take a look at a rough draft of your work and give you advice on how it can be improved.
The more people you can find to ask, the better, but even one neurodivergent personâs personal insight is miles better than trying to take it on with nothing more than your own neurotypical understanding of how a brain works. Research is good too, I definitely recommend reading up on anything you want to portray, but still, please, find a real person that lives with it to talk to. It does wonders.
I personally have two OCs with ADHD that experience it very differently, but both experiences are drawn from my own experiences with ADHD mixed with what others with ADHD have told me about their experiences. Even as a neurodivergent person Iâm still asking around, because it helps shape better, more well-rounded characters. You can do it too. I highly recommend it.
If you are working with characters with ADHD, I would be happy to answer any questions you have :)
This is why my OCs are like me, and why in one fandom I looked at a character for three decades before realizing he was ADHD, before the creators finally acknowledged it. And now my autistic headcanon about said character plus some others have gained ground.

What you say vs. what I hear: COVID-19 edition
âMost people donât die from it.â
âThe thousands of people who die from COVID-19 every week are insignificant to me.â
âWe have to get back to our lives.â
âThe response to COVID-19 should be tailored to my tolerance for inconvenience, regardless of other peopleâs safety.â
âI donât live in fear.â
âIâm willing to endanger the people around me to prove how brave I am.â
âKeeping me at home is a violation of my freedom.â
âThe most pressing injustice right now is my inconvenience, not other people getting sick and dying.â
âYouâre exaggerating it because youâre out to get Trump.â
âI canât imagine caring about other people unless they can be used as political weapons.â
When Adam bit the apple he did it because he trusted Eve. Because he loved her. Adam bit into the apple because the woman he loved told him to, no matter what God said. No matter the rules of heaven. Whatâs heaven to a womanâs love anyway? Whatâs God to your wife? The first sins of humanity, were trusting others. Eve trusted a snake, Adam trusted Eve, and I trust you. Maybe thatâs a sin, just like the first couple. Maybe everyoneâs right about us and weâre sinners and we offend God. But like I said, whatâs God to a womanâs love anyway? What has heaven got that I canât find sitting next to you on a cool autumn morning?

my working theory is that everyone who said they would leave tumblr after they banned porn really did leave for twitter and thats why tumblr has somehow gotten more bearable and twitter is now just. like that.

Friendly reminder to check your breasts while youâre just sitting there scrolling the internet, then reblog so your followers do the same. Two people I know were just diagnosed within the same week.
these are the things that need spread. not fucking ribbons and the words âbreast cancer awareness.â we know it exists. just knowing it exists isnât going to help much.
for everyone who has breasts or is rather busty in the chest area (because men can get it too and not everyone who has breasts is a woman)
Quick reminder for my followers with boobs! I checked mine and Iâm all clear.
Also amab people as well! While it is rare, people who are amab can develop breast cancer too, because even though itâs thin [in some cases] you still have breast tissue, just not mammary glands, which is what produces milk :-O
Zuko is one of those characters that looks tall, but isn't. Like, next to the gaang and the fire nation girl gang, he looks reasonably tall, makes sense for a 16 year old boy, he's even a bit taller than Iroh(short king). But then you see him next to adults and it's like,"This boy isn't tol, all his friends are just tiny."
what a good day to remember that Zuko is canonically 5â˛3âł
(also can we just appreciate how when they lined up the guards to find the imposter, Sokka was literally a head shorter than everyone and no one knew his name but they still didnât know who it was)
dumbass energy runs in the Fire Nation, how did these people conquer anything beyond a slice of bread?Â
Some trans guy tips from your dad
Donât try that mascara/arm hair shit. Iâve been passing for more than a year with short, blond arm hair. Itâs not an important secondary sex characteristic.
Board shorts (without pockets in the front) do wonders to minimize the width of your hips. Always choose board shorts over swim trunks. Choose them over cargo shorts if itâs appropriate.
Speak from your chest, never from your head.
The goal of binding should not be an entirely flat chest; you should bind for your body type.
GC2b makes the best binders out there, and their products are designed specifically for trans men/transmasculine people.
It might seem useless if youâre pre-T, but working out can be a big help for dysphoria.
Eyebrows are really important to passing pre-testosterone. Muss that shit up. Make them look unkempt.
When you ask for a haircut, make sure the edges in the back are squared, not rounded.
If you have peach fuzz, I would advise shaving it. Cis guys shed theirs when they go through puberty. Shaving can also help with facial hair dysphoria.
Donât ever buy a binder from Amazon. They run in strange sizes (I was an XXL even though Iâm a M in GC2b) and take weeks/months to come. Itâs also difficult to breathe in them after a few hours.
@shyguyshiloh @kuchenkat
Spread the word, especially for the board shorts thing!!!!!! They do WONDERS for making hips appear slimmer!!!!!
@cloudstreamer
for my masculine children :-*
Adding a couple things.Â
-Patience is a virtue you need to come to terms with. Even on T, things take time. My voice dropped immediately, but my cycle continued for 6 months. Weâre all different.Â
-In the summer, HYDRATE YOURSELF. A binder is an extra layer, and mine have always been very warm.Â
-When its not too hot, layers are your friend. Youâd be surprised what even simply an undershirt can do to smooth out your look.Â
-You are going to get misgendered. This is a fact, and it sucks. Learn to politely correct people. Remember you might be the first (openly) trans person they meet, so be a good ambassador.Â
-When you start T, your smell will change. You will sweat like youâve never sweat before, and it WILL STINK. Adjust your bathing habits accordingly.Â
*coughs in direction of my trans friendos*
If you have a really large chest you might do better with Underworks binders. They arenât pretty, theyâre not soft, but they do a good job and were the first on the market for a very long time. I couldnât stand gc2b so if youâre like me, try Underworks.
Donât double bind.
DONâT USE DUCK TAPE. I still have scars from a dumb decision I made as a teen and Iâm 31 now.
When the time comes for top surgery, shop around. Find someone who will tailor your chest to your needs. Look at their portfolio. Compare surgeons. See if you can find someone who will work with your health insurance if you have it.
Be safe. Be healthy. Take your time. Itâs not a race or a competition.
*incoherent screaming* MY TRANS MEN/ TRANS MASCULINE FOLLOWERS, L O O Kđđđđđđđđđđđđ
I know a lot of my friends are Trans men so look!!
@romeo-appreciation-squad @sxft-bxy-mlm @existential-pasta @undervaluedagent hey guys look
If you donât mind, Iâd also add
Resting the bottom of your shirt on the waist of your pants- similar to French tucking- makes your torso look more boxy and helps reduce the appearance of your chest. It works best with sweatpants
Stand with your legs a little further apart than youâre used to. It makes your hips look more proportionate to the rest of your body.
Standing straight up (mostly when binding or using other methods of visually reducing your chest) makes you look more masculine.
If you donât have a packer, use a bunched up pair of socks.
Pushing your jaw forward gives you more of a visible jawline. Just donât go too far, other wise it looks a little odd.
Basketball jerseys help visually minimize your chest. Just throw on a jacket/flannel to hide bras/binders from the sides.
These are all I can think of at the moment, but they really helped me
Oh, hey, nonbinary AFAB here! Would like to add that if you live in a country where medical prescriptions are cheap and you donât have to jump through millions of hoops to get one, going on the Pill if you canât get a testosterone prescription works wonders for period-related dysphoria (and itâs probably easier most places to get that prescription if you inquire about it because of âpainful periodsâ). Also, I knew a trans guy who when he was pre-T learned contour in order to sharpen his jawline and honestly when he perfected it I genuinely didnât recognise him for three solid minutes until I noticed his backpack.Â
All of this sounds like solid advice, but PLEASE do not push your jaw forward on a daily basis!!! I used to push it forward on purpose as a kid/teen because for some goddamn reason I thought that my jaw was wrong (???) and now I have really bad jaw pain some days and it feels like no way of placing it is right and trying to place it correctly only hurts even more than keeping it pushed forward. Itâs not worth it!
crucial reminders: you may not look like how you want to. your fat distribution may not change or go to place you donât want. your facial hair may or may not appear, and may not grow in a way you like.Â
if you DO grow facial hair, the years will change it. i went from total neckbeard to getting hair on my cheeks and the beginnings of a mustache in the total of 2 years on T. thatâs me. it might affect some people other ways.
transition goals are psychologically and emotionally harmful. donât engage in them.
your hair might start thinning and fall out. thatâs male pattern baldness and genetics, babes
youâre at higher risk for blood pressure and heart problems. get bloodwork and check ups done regularly. taking too much T will result in estrogen production. mind your dosages. you need to get your T levels checked regularly.
donât compare your transition to anybody elseâs. thatâs not fair to you or them, but especially you.
the first month or so you may feel more aggressive. thatâs T. in the bodybuilding world itâs also known as T-rage because well, you sure do get mad. itâs puberty #2. you can take it out on fitness or find another outlet. it goes away.
youâll get horny. again, puberty, and T. whew. good luck out there.
you will get hungry. eat. donât ignore your body: EAT. as you take T, your body is going to adjust how it expends calories. men need more calorie intake, full stop. you will need more calorie intake. you can learn how to manage that, but be MINDFUL ABOUT EATING DISORDERS.
good luck crying anymore. itâs very difficult to cry now. iâm honestly thankful when i can. some may see this as a perk. i personally donât, because crying alleviates a lot of emotional distress.
genetics play an enormous role in how you change. be prepared to be disappointed in something.
everyoneâs transition is different. every. one. from all types of hair to more sweating to voice changes AND voice timeline, EVERYONEâS TIMELINE IS DIFFERENT AND DONâT COMPARE.
How to tell a raven from a crow. Made with corvid researcher Dr. Kaeli Swift for her blog post on the subject!
These are all well and good (accurate and informative and also fun) but hereâs the best way to tell the difference between the two:
Ravens are FUCKING huge.
For context, the average height of an adult male human is approximately 1.7 meters, while the average height of an adult female human is approximately 1.6 meters.
The wingspan of the common raven is nearly as long as a grown human is tall!
Holy shit.
Also, if you see a rook on its own?  Itâs not a rook, itâs a crow.Â

I saw a post once that said âif youâre not sure if itâs big enough to be a Raven, then itâs a crowâ. A few weeks later I was driving in the country and saw some birds eating roadkill, and thought âI didnât know we had vultures around hereâ and then got closer and went OH THATâS A CORVID HOLY COW THAT MUST BE A RAVEN.
They are GI-FRICKEN-NORMOUS
