ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne “Low-Tech Factory” Designers’ Saturday, Langenthal 2–3 November 2012 For its 14th edition, Langenthal Designers’ Saturday offers carte blanche to the ECAL/ University of Art and Design Lausanne. It provides the setting for the ECAL to present its exhibition entitled “Low-Tech Factory”, a selection of machines designed by Bachelor’s and Master’s students of Industrial Design and Products at a workshop led by designers Chris Kabel and Tomás Král.

Jan Švankmajer, Les Possibilités du dialogue, 1982.

Les Possibilités du dialogue (en tchèque Moznosti dialogu) est un court métrage d'animation tchécoslovaque réalisé par Jan Švankmajer et sorti en 1982. C'est un film fantastique surréaliste réalisé à l'aide de la technique de l'animation image par image, et qui montre les rencontres et souvent les affrontements entre des têtes ou des êtres humanoïdes composés de divers matériaux. Ce film a été récompensé par plusieurs prix dans des festivals de cinéma internationaux.

“With Treasure, I used my childhood method of building huts and applied it into designing a chair: with a hammer, nails and found boards. When the boards were too long or short, I improvised, resulting in a chair with naïve spontaneity. The first chair was made of various old found boards criss-crossed by coincidence, assembled into one unique chair.  In order to reproduce the chair, I started using the wood leftovers from a furniture factory. As they continuously produced identical pieces of waste materials, I was able to assemble these pieces into a series of chairs as long as the manufacturer kept going on with its production.”
