any other autistic folks (not specifically alterhuman, but tied to it in my experience) have social rules that they fixated on as a kid that carried over into adulthood, even if they're not necessarily appropriate or true anymore?

i slow blink + nod at people to acknowledge them because I read about it in Warrior Cats and integrated it into my own behavior. i also treat any service worker/people in general as an authority figure if I need to ask for help (using sir/ma'am sometimes, just overall treating them as authority) because I thought of ALL adults as authority when I was young and now, even that I am an adult, i still think of people behind counters as authority.

(sorry if any of this is worded oddly!! i had a hard time translating my experience into human words)

I do the slow blink and nod thing too!! It's my go-to greeting/way of acknowledgement, like for example when I walk past the door greeters at the grocery store.

Another thing is that I always learned to respect others as my equals rather than as authorities, even when logically they *are* an authority, which kiiiinda got on the nerves of some of my teachers lol. Not even in a "we are on the same level" way, but in a "we're both beings in this world, you just have more/different experiences that I can learn from" way. Like I said, this caused some conflict with teachers and school admins because I would speak to them like I would speak to any other person rather than being intimidated haha

The wolverine finally got long-fought-for protection under the Endangered Species Act the other day, so I drew him a congrats card. These fuzzy mustelids are named gulo, meaning glutton.

I’m almost finished with drawing the endangered residents of my home state, Michigan. The Wolverine State has infamously had no wolverines for over a century, though one wanderer was found in 2004.

Once I finish the last few Michigan species, I hope to start making state-themed posters. Wisconsin will probably be next as it shares a lot of species with its neighbor.
