"Yeah, me too," he admitted, just as quietly, though he managed a small smile at him before Keith buried his face in his shoulder, shifting to wrap his arms around him instead and feeling him trembling just the slightest bit. "I felt the same when it came to Naxzela, you know. If you had gone through with that...?" Lance would have never recovered.
"I'm not going anywhere, though, not now, not ever. Not as long as I can help it."
As soon as Lance wrapped his arms around him, Keith pressed in as close as he could, clinging to the warmth and steadiness he found there. When Naxzela came up, a small, watery laugh escaped him. “…Yeah. I think I finally get how you felt back then…”
He drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to ease the tight ache in his chest. Lance’s promise not to leave him earned a faint nod against the crook of his neck.
He sucked in a deep breath and let it out, trying to ease the ache in his chest. When his boyfriend mentioned not leaving him, he managed a nod against the crook of the younger paladin's neck. "...good, you better not. You're not allowed."
He knew his words were childish as best. Their duties were dangerous. Neither of them knew if their next mission would be their last. Though, for now--just for this moment--he let himself pretend that saying it out loud was enough to keep Lance here with him.

Keith raised his eyebrow. This anon was being awfully nice to him. He was starting to get suspicious.
"Uh, hello...?" he said awkwardly. "I guess my day's going okay..." He wasn't sure how to respond to the "handsome" remark, so he chose not to acknowledge it.
Keith let out a short snort at the questions, shaking his head. "Growing up in foster care gave me pretty thick skin," he replied. "The other kids in the group home said pretty fucked up shit to me at the time."
"Now, I don't give a shit of what people think of me," he elaborated with an uncaring shrug. "I’m way more likely to get pissed if someone goes after my friends than if they say something about me.”
"It's true though. They're like starry nebulas swirling with colors, it's mesmerizing. I could stare for hours." He might be waxing a bit poetic but it was true, aside from the mullet he liked picking at Keith on, his eyes were the most captivating thing about him.
Keith was pretty sure his was going to be permanently stained red at this rate. He could hardly look Lance in the eyes now.
"Well, I think your eyes are beautiful too," he admitted, sounding surprisingly shy and vulnerable. He wasn't used to complimenting someone like this. "...they remind me of the ocean during a sunset."
This was not a conversation he wanted to have out of nowhere, but he couldn't help it now, letting out a sigh as he ran a hand down his own face. "...Allura told me my heart stopped for a bit when she got to me," he said finally, quietly. "So, it was really close, but..." It wasn't an outright one. His hand reached for Keith's reassuringly. "I'm sorry. I was trying to figure out how to tell you but bringing something like that up...." He trailed off, not really able to finish that.
The moment Lance confirmed what Keith had overheard, he felt like the floor had dropped out from under him. He didn’t yell. He didn’t lash out. He just… folded inward.
He stepped back, hands braced on his knees as he tried to breathe through the sudden tightness in his chest. His mind kept looping the same thought; the same fear he'd kept repressing.
He forced himself to straighten out when his boyfriend reached for him. Once his eyes refocused on Lance's face, he blinked away tears that threatened to fall. Gradually, his fingers curled around Lance's, trying to ground himself in his partner's warmth. "...sorry..." he breathed out heavily as he stepped forward to hide his face against the younger paladin's shoulder. "It's just... the idea of losing you terrifies me."
"I'm glad Allura was able to save you," he added quietly.
@bluesniperpaladin said: "Soooo." Lance settled in next to his boyfriend -- his mate -- and leaned on him slightly. "Did I ever tell you that your eyes make me think of nebulas? They're the same swirling purple and they have colors mixed in that looks absolutely stunning..." He might be feeling a bit overly sappy today.
Keith instinctively leaned back against Lance in return, wrapping an arm around his partner's waist.
"Nebulas...?" The compliment sent his heart racing, and rather predictably, heat rose to his cheeks. "Geez, Lance... that's--"
He bit back the urge to call it "gay." Of course, it was. It just didn't feel appropriate in the moment.
"That's... really nice of you to say," he finished instead. "No one's ever complimented my eyes like that before."
.....Well. So much for trying to figure out how to bring it up gently.
Keith approached Lance a moment later, his expression heavy. "Is it true?" he asked. "...that you died?"

Keith already knew about Shiro’s “death”—Shiro had told him everything after the fight with Kuron. Hearing Lance’s name spoken in the same breath hit him like a blade through the chest.
The question that followed didn’t even register. His mind snagged on the same two words, looping over and over.
Lance died.
Lance died.
"...Lance died...?" he finally remarked, his voice shaking. He cared about Lance deeply, and the idea that Lance had gone through something like that without telling him hurt in a way he wasn’t prepared for.
“He didn’t tell me,” Keith murmured, barely above a whisper.

Keith was immediately defensive over the first thing that left the greyface's mouth. "Hey! I'm not a--!"
Then, after the anon continued, he just blinked in confusion. Were they complimenting him by calling him a dumbass? What the hell?
More awkwardly, he added, "...not sure if I'd consider myself cute, but... thanks, I guess?"

Keith blinked. Blinked again. Blinked a third time. "...wh-why the hell would Lance be a worm?!"

A brow raised and one hand flexed experimentally, clearly trying to find the difference. "Okay. They're still long sharp blades used for cutting and slashing. Your bayard, an alien magic tech weapon specifically tailored to you, forms a sword. So does your lion. And the only thing you brought to space was a knife."
"Yeah? What's your point?" Keith snorted. "Knives and swords are both types of blades, but that doesn't make them the same type of weapon. One's clearly for close-ranged fighting and the other is for long-ranged fighting. The balance is completely different too."

"No! Knives and swords are two completely different things! Knives have more versatile uses aside from being weapons! It'd be a lot harder to prep food with a sword than with a knife!"
"Swords are just big knives, this is not the win you think it is."
"Don't be a smartass, Shiro," Keith huffed. "You don't grip a knife the same way you'd grip a sword! They're very different!"
"I can’t believe you guys think I solve all my problems with a knife; sometimes I use a sword!"
OOC: Yay, I finally have all 8 seasons of VLD on DVD. The completionist in me is happy.
Though, on a side note, I want to have words with the person who decided to make the season 8 DVDs the color PINK. Yaknow, considering what happens to a certain character in that season.
Keith narrowed his eyes at a pesky fly that kept buzzing around his head. He pulled out his blade, fully prepared to stab the pest.
"...someone stop me before I attempt to murder this bastard with a knife."
