Lopsided and cocky, through and through. “When someone is intrinsically better than the rest of the herd, yes, they are indeed an anomaly.”

The mundane world. Strange, for a world he previously lived almost three decades on, everything felt foreign this time around. The sun forced him to squint, and then the sounds, the odours were all so much—and, to make matters worse, this woman spoke as though she knew him.

... Did he know her? He couldn’t remember. She didn’t ring any bells. Though, to be fair, he didn’t know how long he drifted, suspended in his paradise. Had it been months? Years? Or maybe simply seconds?

While confusion and disorientation lingered, tingling his posture, his eyes were filled with fury. Unimaginable, undesirable fury. And, with painfully clenched teeth, the tension pulling at the skin of his jaw, he hissed out but three words:

“I don’t know.”

One segment of the spiny shell peeled skyward, unveiling the small toxapex within. She cocked her tiny head to the side, getting a good look at the intruder.

« Tit-for-tat, let’s get on with all of that. I answer yours, you answer mine, lest you lose your spine. » A look of unrivalled, gleeful malice enriched her eyes. « Why should I tolerate you? »

Darkness loomed. Above, seated atop a thick branch, sat a honchkrow cloaked by the depths of shadow, haloed only by a dim nighttime overhead lamp. The honchkrow’s big, intense gaze flitted down onto the intruder. A beat, two, before he dedicated some moments to preening—not quite decompressing, but rather disclosing relaxation, casual about the imminent danger.

« By himself, yes, definitely. He was more… outwardly emotional when younger. » The honchkrow’s seemingly perpetual glare returned unto the individual. « Seems like he’s a tad obsessed with the idea of being—separated from his emotions, especially in the presence of others. But I see him. I know him. »

The dark-type prepped another comment before flapping, manoeuvring prompted his head to turn. A blur of purple, before a crobat perched next to him, and promptly nuzzled cheeks. The honchkrow didn’t bristle, didn’t lash out at the sudden affection—no, he seemed quite content in the presence of the other. He continued.

« We find more affection in each other than we do with him. »

“Fine,” came the curt reply. A pause floated between the two, folding and thickening tenfold each passing second—before a smirk unfurled across Cyrus’ lips. He wasn’t the most expressive man in existence—far from it—but when his lips pulled, when he flashed the white and pink beneath, it was a sure sign of danger.

“If it comes to that latter, you must entertain my death wish,” teeth bared, buoyant malice reaching those cold, cold eyes, “shoot yourself in the foot first. I want to see your blood before my own.”
