kakishibu (persimmon) dyed cotton fabric with paste resist pattern of chinese character '囍' (marriage) for patchwork mending. kakishibu is created by fermenting unripe persimmons and repeatedly dipping the cloth in the juice. it contains strong tannins, darkens upon contact with sunlight, and makes fabric water-resistant / source

indonesian copper 'tjap' used to stamp hot wax on cloth in the batik dye process. each tjap is made of copper which is cut, bent, notched, and assembled by hand by traditional craftsmen (posted by lunn studio on ebay)

vintage brown bagh phulkari dupatta on silk chiffon from punjab. bagh phulkari was traditionally hand stitched by grandmothers for their granddaughters marriage trousseau. in the bottom right photo you can see the back of the cloth as proof that this was embroidered completely by hand. found on ebay
