The main reason I’m not vibing with Welcome to Derry yet is because they’re trying so hard to make this Losers Club 2.0

I don’t want that!

The whole point is that the Losers Club can’t be replicated otherwise their defeat of Pennywise is meaningless.

I want the new characters to grow on me in an organic way not because they remind me of the Losers.

Prove to me this is a show that has a story strong enough it doesn’t need to constantly nod to the audience about our faves. It’s so obviously imitating, it’s not an Easter egg or a nod, it’s a huge sign.

Controversial take as an It enthusiast, I’m kinda annoyed about the direction Welcome to Derry is taking.

I’m glad that it’s sticking to the importance and rarity of Loser Club, but I’m annoyed by the fact they’re recreating the characters. Like I get it, it’s showing how things repeat and victory was so unlikely and contingent on luck, and blah blah blah, but I don’t like the way they’re sprinkling in character traits from the Losers into these one off characters like it’s supposed to be a fun Easter egg. It’s just very regurgitated rn. My big one I’m annoyed by instead of being charmed by is Teddy and Phil being a carrot on a stick for Reddie shippers. Like ugh.

I appreciate they’re trying to do new stories for all of the It fandom, even those who read the books, but I’m craving to see the history from the books we haven’t seen on screen yet. I wanted it to explore the “One of the Missing” chapters in the books. I was really hoping it’d time jump to the different eras. I’m also annoyed by this whole military storyline. Like that’s so lame. I don’t need a government conspiracy in a story supposed to be centered on small towns and their dark underbellies, and in turn the way kids in those towns are the unavenged victims.

Which it still can cuz this is just the first episode and I’m being quick to judge, but idk I’m underwhelmed. It feels like this is cheapening It rn and I’m just upset :(

Also, It was never about Pennywise, it’s always been about the Losers Club. Without them it just feels like a silly sci-fi series. It doesn’t have the draw that made me love the universe. I know it wasn’t going to have them, and like I said I like it isn’t doing retroactive fixes so all the children survive or whatever, but idk I just don’t if this series can work.

I hope it gets better or maybe I’ll appreciate it after a few views but idk.

I do enjoy the scares Pennywise employs, it’s just idk if this is truly going to be a strong story I’ll connect to emotionally.

My Loser’s Club headcanons:

Richie: ADHD, gay, hopelessly in love with Eddie, secretly a nerd, pronouns are he/him, has PTSD

Eddie: OCD, ADHD, gay, in love with Richie but keeps it to himself, pronouns are he/him, has PTSD

Ben: autistic, awkward, down bad for Beverly, special interest is true crime, cishet, pronouns are he/him, has PTSD

Beverly: cishet but everyone thinks she’s a lesbian, in love with Ben, has a great fashion sense, has PTSD, depression, and anxiety, pronouns are she/her

Bill: cis, bisexual, has a crush on Mike, has severe PTSD and depression, very protective over younger kids even if he doesn’t know them, pronouns are he/him

Mike: gay but he’s extremely good at hiding it, cis, has a crush on Bill, will do anything for his friends, severe PTSD and anxiety, pronouns are he/him

Stan: cishet, happily in love with Patty, special interest is birds (like my mom), extreme anxiety and PTSD.

They all have PTSD.

Eddie has different themed bandaids for each of the Losers. It started off as something he did cause he was bored, wanted an excuse to stay out longer and because he thought it would be a fun organizational thing. He would keep those bandaids on his person or in his room. He even bought containers for the bandaids with the Losers names on them. When the others realized he did this they started making requests. So now they have small collection of bandaids they can choose from. However (and this annoys the crap out of Eddie) they will steal from each other’s collections. Bev always takes from Richies (or sometimes Bens but she makes sure that it can be hidden) or Mike steals Stans bird bandaids. Ben tries not to but sometimes will take a bandaid from Bevs collection. Richie doesn’t care and will take bandaids from everyone’s. He’ll even make a game out of it by picking out a bandaid with his eyes closed. Eddie has repeatedly lectured them about this. One day the Losers realized that Eddie doesn’t have a bandaid collection of his own so (led by Richie) they go to the Derry drugstore and pick out bandaids for Eddie. They even buy a container for him with his name on it to put them in. Eddie is super touched. However soon Richie starts to steal exclusively from Eddie’s collection. He’s super clumsy too so he’s constantly in need of them. He’ll proudly wear them and say they are a token of his undying devotion to his Eddie Spaghetti. Eddie will pretend to be annoyed but he secretly loves it. His face gets all red every time he sees Richie wearing one of his bandaids. He will also steal some of Richies. He says it’s for retaliation but he secretly loves the idea of wearing something that technically belongs to Richie.

Okay so I’m planning a little fic, and a very small part of it rn would be about them having kids and I don’t know what the dynamics would be, how many kids, etc. So I’m up for ideas.

The couples I’m working with are

Richie+Eddie (obviously)

Ben+Bev

Stan+Patricia (I think they’re actually super cute)

Bill+ Audra (despite Bill cheating in the book, I do really like their book relationship. I was thinking for them maybe they’ll adopt?)

Mike? (I loved his relationship with his parents in the book so I definitely want him to have a few kids, but the question is whether he has a companion, if it’s a man or woman, or what, but I’m really excited for him. I’m just unsure.)

Like most of the fic is right after the main story we all know, but I do want to work towards families for all of them.
