55th Annual Grammy Awards Hits and Miss!

So, I know all of you were extremely stoked about the fashion that dazzled down the red carpet last night at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. I would like to recap some of the fashions and designers we saw last night!

Beyonce – While some were not absorbing of her choice for the night, I would like to think she kept it fashionable and comfortable. Wearing an Osman Black and White jumpsuit, she is keeping it trendy. With her performance last week and her upcoming tour, I think she feels like she has nothing to justify because we know she is good for it!

Taylor Swift – Looked like a goddess. Her dress had a touch of sex appeal and flored us with greek goddesses. She was wearing J. Mendel.

Adele – Many are not in favor with Adele’s choice last night. She wore a floral print Valentino. I think this dress was not a good choice for the night. Maybe another event or day. **(Miss)

Katy Perry – Looked stunning in her mint green floral embellishments at the top Gucci dress, which was very form fitting and flattering to her body. (***HIT!)

Rihanna – Was full of sexy with her custom red Azzedine Alaia dress. Her hair color really accentuate the Barbadian princess eyes and the red lip stick sealed the deal.

Carrie Underwood – Looked amazing in her Roberto Cavalli gown and draped in $31 Million dollars worth of diamonds! I absolutely love the design patterns in the dress. Go Carrie!

Jennifer Lopez -  Holds nothing back from showing a little skin! She was wearing an Anthony Vaccerello dress and the shoes were Tom Ford which I REALLY LOVE!

Kelly Rowland – Turned heads with her Georges Chakra dress! She looked amazing however, we would have like to see a different hair style..maybe a pin-up.

Florence Welch – Wore Bespoke Couture by Givenchy…This dress is one of the only ones that have me a wee bit confused tonight. While we love Givenchy however, this dress was just not to our liking  I think it was the spikes that caught me off guard.

Kimbra Johnson – Was dazzled in Jaime Lee Major and looked like a fairy.

In What FASHION Do You Love?

How possible is it? How possible is for two people of the opposite sex to have a relationship that is strictly platonic? No sex, no physical interactions, only bottomless conversations about life and their relationship woes.

How possible is it?

Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy nurtured a friendship that many have questioned. Was she simply his muse that brought out the very best of his creative designing talents? Or was it the energy that she exudes when she walked in a room? Or was it simply a relationship that two people found in one another that was not sexually defined. Married twice and a courtship with Robert Wolders' until her death; how does one balance the nutrients of a relationship outside of their spouse? A confidant is what Audrey found in Hubert. Someone that she was able to trust with something that meant a great deal to her; her fashion, her image and the ability to create clothes that made her feel comfortable even with some of the insecurities that she carried. What he found in Audrey was a breath of fresh air, inspiration a looking glass for creativity.

So, is it possible?

Are you insecure for not condoning this kind of relationship? Or is it the scrutiny and speculation of what others may think of the relationship? Many people believe that a friendship with the depth of a lifetime should be one that you find in your mate. For years to come many people have their doubts or questions regarding relationships like Audrey and Givenchy. One thing is for sure, what they shared was special and what came out of it was not only a friendship but an iconic era in fashion that is ageless.

In life you can’t help who you love but you can choose how you love.

Product Review: Clinique 3 Step

Can Great Skin Be Created? This is the question that was posed by beauty editor (American Vogue in 1967) Carol Phillips with Dr. Norman Orentreich discussing the importance of a skin care regimen. It was that conversation that sparked the attention of the daughter in law of Estee Lauder. Long story short, Carol Phillips and Dr. Orentreich were recruited to help create the brand that we know today as ‘Clinique’ in August of 1968.

Clinique has a vast array of beauty and skin care products that are designed to create great skin for all skin types. They are known for their Allergy tested products that are 100% Fragrance free.

Thanks to our Friends at Sephora we tried Clinique’s 3 step skin care kit and we have one thing to say…FABULOUS! The Liquid soap gave the skin a very clean feeling appearing to be free of dirt and oils that are sometimes visible if you have visible pores. The Clarifying lotion gave the skin a soothing sensation that seemed to make the skin feel refreshed. Finally, the Dramatically different moisturizing lotion made the skin feel moisturized without feeling oily.

We would highly recommend this product if you do not have a daily skin care routine. However; if you have acne prone skin this specific 3 step product line may not suit your needs. Luckily Clinique does offer a skin care products specifically designed for Acne prone skin.

Product Review: Vintage 80's Gucci Shoulder Bag

We have this great canvas leather shoulder bag from GUCCI. Measurements are 8" wide, 4"8 high, 2"3 deep. It was a must have! Very unexpected find! This is definitely a steal! Its very compact and it holds all your necessities! The worn leather adds so much character to this vintage 80's retro find!  We love discovering hidden gems!

Product Review: Stuart Weitzman For Smyth Brothers

There is nothing like an a fashionable and unexpected fashion find! We decided to check out a random garage sale and look what we found. This is a pair of Stuart Weitzman's for Smyth Brothers red leather pump. The shoe is very comfortable and can be pared with anything that requires a nice red pump. The wavy design along the outer rim of the shoe is a nice touch! What is one fashion find that you have found and it was unexpected?

Product Review: Garnier Is More Than Hair

                               Taking great care of your skin is not only something that has been instilled in me but it is something that I take pride in. You name a product on the market and I have tried it! Just like many of you, the problem that I battle is ridding of blemishes! For me a blemish is one of the most irritating marks on your face because it causes you to feel as if you need to carry around concealer daily!

For many African Americans fighting hyperpigmentation is not something that is new to us. These dark spots are not only a result of a pimple but they can also be caused by insect bites, cuts, bruises, allergic reactions and other hormonal issues. Your face is not the only part of your body that is subject to hyperpigmentation consequently; It is the part of the body that is seen first and the most.

An advocate of beauty tips, tricks and products I decided to try out one of Garnier’s products. A bit skeptical because Garnier frequently advertises their hair care products, a part of me was a bit nervous about trying out a product that is created by a company that specializes in hair care (primarily because hair is the number one cause of my acne breakouts). Nevertheless, I took a deep breath and purchased the Dark Spot Corrector  (from Target of course!).  

After approximately, two weeks of religiously using this product…let me tell you all… it became the Bible for my skin care regimen!  Not only does the product work but it is not oily, has a great smell and leaves my face feeling very smooth and moisturized!  I know some of you may be skeptical but I would not suggest such a product that did not have me sold as a consumer. Please go out to and purchase this item from one of your local retailers today!

Autumnal Equinox 2012

In lieu of the fall season officially approaching us in a matter of hours; I figured I would share some facts about the first day of fall.

Fall for 2012 begins in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22, 10:49 A.M. EDT. 

The word equinox comes from the Latin words for "equal night." The fall and spring equinoxes are the only days of the year in which the Sun crosses the celestial equator.

From here on out, the temperatures will drop and the days start to get shorter than the nights.

Product Review: FALLing For The HEAD MISTRESS

The fall season is upon us! For some of us this is a sad time of year because we must pack away our tanks, sandals and shorts; for others this is the time of year where fashion can really be exemplified through layers of clothes and fancy coats and scarves. This fall season the trend is deep chocolate browns, pomegranates and shades of deep oranges and pinks. According to Pantone’s fashion color report  these colors are just the tip of the iceberg. As for me, I decided to try out one of Essie Fall 2012 colors affectionately called ‘'Head Mistress’.

                        With a nail color like that; you are bound to have someone complimenting you on how gorg your nails look! Not only does this color scream fall; it also pairs well with the Pantones color palate for the season. Here is what it looks like with 2 coats. Which Hat Are You Wearing?

As women we wear so many hats! The friend, the girlfriend, the wife, the mother, the professional, the nurturer, etc. With these roles, women are left to place the overall care of their health in the hands of physicians (Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing).  As I grazed the cover of my October issue of Marie Claire I noticed the highlighted Words ‘Sleeping Pills.’

Now I know we all have had phases of insomnia; when we felt that we were not getting adequate amounts of sleep and we feel that we could use a little aid to help alleviate the problem.  Most often we turn to our healthcare provider and they prescribe medications that ‘help you sleep.’

At its plateau Ambien generated $2 Billion Dollars in sales with 39 million prescriptions. The sleep aid was approved by the Food & Drug Administration in 1992 and physicians deemed it as the breakthrough in sleep aids; convinced that it was better than any previous sleep aid that hit the market.

This issue of Marie Claire highlighted women that have taken the drug and consequently ended up in uncompromising positions that are linked to the consumption of the sleep aid. The women candidly share how they not only almost lost their livelihood but their life! The drug is said to have side effects that are hallucinogenic and are responsible for strange behaviors. Though it may appear as if the article is 'bashing' the drug I did not take it that way. This article is of relevance because we as women begin our days with the many hats that we wear; the color, the designer, the pattern, the style and THE LOOK; we must begin to wear a hat of SELF-CARE. Nordstrom Fall Cosmetics Trend Events

Saturday was a fun filled day of Beauty and fashion!  I was at the Nordstrom Fall Trend Event: Iconic Beauty Trend Show (Nordstrom’s store on Michigan Avenue). The day began with a runway show highlighting all of the industry’s top skin care products, cosmetics collections, perfumes and additional items that you add to your beauty regimen such as nail lacquers. Not only was this event a continuous flow of awesome free gifts and samples but there were groovy jams and lots of energy!

I was there to experience it all first hand with my favorite cosmetic collection NARS. My appointment was with Ryan, one of the NARS Make-Up Artist, she was full of energy and on a mission to give me a bold lip for the day (RED)!  Ryan thoroughly explained every detail of what she applied to my face and gave me tips and tricks on how to accomplish the look at home. 

The Fun didn’t stop there!  Kimora Lee Simmons was at Nordstrom introducing Shinto Clinical, a skin care collection designed to keep women’s skin radiant and timeless. The collection consists of nine products that guarantee to have any women looking ageless! While make-up application seems to be the primary focus for most women; Kimora is looking to have women intimate with the overall health-care of their skin.

Finally, I headed to my ‘neighborhood’ Nordstrom store in Oakbrook to check out the TopShop British Style Fashion Party.  With the day focused on beauty my attention was caught by the sneak peak of Top Shops cosmetic line that will be available in Nordstrom stores. The collection has a great assortment of lipstick hues, a shimmering highlighter and a compact of earth tone eye shadows. I love where Top Shop is going with all of this. I am officially excited for the Fall/Winter fashion/beauty season!

Heidi Klum's Children's Apparel Truly Scrumptious

Model and mommy extraordinaire Heidi Klum children’s line Truly Scrumptious will be available at Toys R Us/Babies R Us stores and online tomorrow! The variations of colors, patterns are so adorable and posh; fitting for any little monster! The collection sizes range from Infant to 5T for boys and girls including accessories!

“I designed this first collection not only with adorable kids in mind, but I thought of all the little details to make things easier on moms, too,” Heidi says. “From cool and stylish mix-and-match apparel, to fun and colorful floor-to-ceiling room décor, my Truly Scrumptious line has it all. Though Heidi is in the midst of a divorce from husband Seal we still love her and have the utmost respect for her iconic fashion presence within the industry.

Beyonce graces the cover of US Weekly Magazine as she is deemed ‘ America’s Hottest Mom!’ I am sure for many of us this comes to no surprise. Beyonce is known for her simplistic but chic sense of style that accentuates her natural beauty.  Only 8 months shy from giving birth to her and hubby/rapper Jay-Z’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter; Beyonce proves that you can be sexy and be a mommy simultaneously.

Chicago native Jennifer Hudson has maneuvered her way into the fashion world proving that she is more than a sultry voice and convicting actress. Jennifer debuted the Jennifer Hudson Collection on QVC and I must say, I do like what I have seen. Her items appear to be comfortable and flattering for women of all sizes.
