Chris’ eyes were far off. He barely paid attention to the man before him’s actions. Though if he were paying attention, he would have most certainly realized the odd way which the man was acting. He heard Albert’s last words and turned his head to look at him. Chris’ hazel gaze met with the gaze of his old friend. “Chase…?”
Chris grimaced. Did he mean when they used to be arch enemies? Did he mean the last time they had met in Kijuju? That chase…? Chris shook his head, “What ever went wrong, Albert…?” The question was sour on his tongue.
He gulped again, averted his eyes from Albert’s. There was a short silence between the two of them. Chris felt himself needing to explain what he meant by that exactly… “We were friends. Partners. I thought loyalties were important to you…. I trusted you. Jill trusted you.” Finally, Chris shifted his gaze back to the older man’s, “So what happened? What changed you…?”
Agent Redfield: formulaoffear: Formula of Fear: Chris | Weskerredfield-bsaa:Chris...
He almost laughed.
Almost.
“You ask that, sitting at my kitchen table?” Wesker asked, dryly. Dish left to cultivate, he retrieved one of the blood samples and slipped it into a little box wedged up beside the toaster. The sequencer, like the microscope, had seen better days, but there was still a stamp of Umbrella on it, scratched and faded. He switched it on and let the machine do its work.
There were no words for what he was being asked. Despite the power that was in that body, Chris still looked like a kicked puppy. Fed, huh? That meant no return if his sources were correct…
“What do you want me to say, Chris? What do you want to hear? That I was blackmailed? That I’d gone mad, perhaps, with the revelations that Spencer and Umbrella had planned this from the very beginning? That STARs meant something to me? That you meant something to me? Jill?” He leaned against the countertop, head cocked to the side and his eyes narrowed. “You’re as bad as Excella was…Mmm...perhaps not as bad. She saw me for the monster I was and still threw herself at my feet.”
Just once, someone show some goddamn backbone. Fight me. Fight me for a reason other than ‘justice’. Fight for yourself.
“I haven’t changed. I’ve always been a self-serving bastard, Chris, and I probably always will be. I was asked to keep Umbrella’s activities silent which meant joining STARs. I didn’t like the post, I didn’t like most of the team. But be damned if, when the time came to lead you all to the chopping block, I wasn’t going to try and get some of you to survive.”
He craved more tea. Tea seemed to have taken the place of Excella’s serum, but he suspected that was due to Death’s meddling. “Admittedly there were, perhaps, personal reasons that led me to the position as well…but I have always wanted to change the world. And I don’t care how it’s done. You were business, Chris, which then became personal. Because you just couldn’t keep your nose out of my business.” A pause. He looked away, arms still folded, pale skin against grey and a deep, dark violet.
“I’ve only had one true partner in my life, Chris, and I’m sorry to say but it wasn’t you.”
ooc: Good god, Wesker shut up.
Chris nodded, clearing his throat and pinching the bridge of his nose. His eyes slid over the man in front of him's figure. So it was really that simple. The man he had viewed almost as a brother once upon a time. The man he had cared for had never felt the same. Ah, Chris! Why are you letting this get to you. You've known this for a while now! That he's a lying manipulative bastard... But perhaps something in Chris had hoped that he could change...
He was foolish. Chris even knew that. Naive and far too trustworthy. And he'd been through so much heart ache in his life because of it. You would think he'd learn his lesson, but no. He just kept on going on this never-ending path. Chris shook his head and let out a brief sigh. He looked down the the area Wesker had taken a sample from on his arm. The small puncture wound had healed quickly.
Chris looked away, trying to make it appear that he was once again taking in his surroundings when the truth was that he just couldn't make eye contact with Albert after such news. But then it hit him what Wesker had said. His eyebrows furrowed the slightest bit. 'I've only had one true partner in my life, Chris, and I’m sorry to say but it wasn’t you.'
But he had had a partner... Someone he cared for... Chris' natural curious instinct made him look up into the older man's eyes once more, "So, who's this partner then?"
I don’t understand…sorry.
:l *sighs* .... I'm a vampire, kid.
shut up
O_O What?
Chris didn’t even flinch as the man showed off the abilities he had obviously maintained. No, instead he sat there contemplating what he had thought he’d seen… Just the slightest hint of emotion. Even of panic in Albert Wesker’s eyes. Could it be..? Chris narrowed his eyes, looking in the direction he could have sworn triggered such a reaction in Wesker.
His eyes scanned over that area for a moment. But too quickly the man was back at his side, demanding for a swab from his inner cheek. Chris sighed and nodded shortly, opening his mouth and allowing for the Q-tip to make its entrance. Chris listened intently as the older man spoke to him.
After the swab was done, Chris closed his mouth. He ran a hand back through his hair, again a very nervous gesture. The question was: why was he nervous? The mention of drinking Wesker’s blood seemed to almost spark an excitement in him… Chris hid that excitement with a blanket of anxiety.
Chris licked the corner of his lips dryly, “I…. uh, I drank blood… I’ve learned to control myself….” His eyes traced down from Albert’s gaze… his jaw line… His neck. He could practically see his pulse pumping the blood through his very much living body. Chris quickly tore his eyes away, “No, Albert… I don’t want your blood….”
He allowed himself a small smile. “Then that is good news for me. Everything else seems to want to eat, fuck or kill me of late.” He popped the q-tips into a Petri dish, and padded to the old and battered microscope sitting on the bench top, distressingly plain against the dark blue and grey speckled laminate. A barstool sat in front of it – ridiculously out of place, but then at the moment Wesker wasn’t exactly picky about his surroundings. “What bothers me, Chris, is that sometimes it’s all three at once. If I can cross vampires of my list of things I need to avoid, I will be most pleased.”
He took out a pipette, droplets of chemicals covering the smeared fluid. He remembered doing this with Birkin back in Racoon, watching what developed…no, don’t think about the past. Not now. Just talk. You’re dwelling too much on the past. Nostalgia makes you weak.
“Your symptoms are typical of vampire folklore. But we draw that from popular media.” He toyed with the magnification, but his heart wasn’t in it. Sitting back, and pinching the bridge of his nose, he folded his arms. Tried to assemble his thoughts into something that made sense. “It makes me wonder how much the world actually knows…it’s just not paying attention. Much like it does with us.”
He glanced over his shoulder to where Chris was sitting, pupils contracting to slits. “Do you miss it? Do you miss the chase?”
Chris' eyes were far off. He barely paid attention to the man before him's actions. Though if he were paying attention, he would have most certainly realized the odd way which the man was acting. He heard Albert's last words and turned his head to look at him. Chris' hazel gaze met with the gaze of his old friend. "Chase...?"
Chris grimaced. Did he mean when they used to be arch enemies? Did he mean the last time they had met in Kijuju? That chase...? Chris shook his head, "What ever went wrong, Albert...?" The question was sour on his tongue.
He gulped again, averted his eyes from Albert's. There was a short silence between the two of them. Chris felt himself needing to explain what he meant by that exactly... "We were friends. Partners. I thought loyalties were important to you.... I trusted you. Jill trusted you." Finally, Chris shifted his gaze back to the older man's, "So what happened? What changed you...?"
Chris eyed the box as Albert pulled it out. His mind was still racing as it had been since Jessica had left his apartment. He had almost slaughtered her. He had wanted to…. To drink every last drop of her blood…. Chris shook his head and pulled out a seat at the small kitchen table. He took a seat and rolled up one sleeve of his hoodie.
Chris held out his arm for Albert to take the sample. He brought his free hand to his face, running it over softly and then pinching the bridge of his nose. Chris closed his eyes as he began to speak again dryly, “Right… Uh, symptoms….”
Swallowing past the lump in his throat, Chris continued, “the sun… It burns my skin. But it doesn’t kill me….” He averted his gaze from Wesker’s. Right now, he was the one of them that felt like a monster. Oh how the roles had switched…. How ironic… he thought bitterly, shaking his head once again.
“I can’t lose blood… Can’t get hurt…. Or be in the sun too long without getting… unbearably hungry….” at last, Chris lifted his eyes to meet the red gaze of his old partner - his old adversary, “For blood……”
Chris’ head pounded as he carried on… All the things that had changed in his life were not capable of simply being listed. Frankly, he wasn’t the same man he had once been. He would have committed suicide by now if it weren’t for his honor telling him that was not the way to go….. “I hear… everything. I see… everything…. I can’t take it anymore.”
He bit down the hysterical laugh that threatened to bubble out, but the comments still fell from his lips. “Welcome to my world.”
Paranoia made him glance around the room; windows and doors, mapping out his escape routes if needs be. The rest of the apartment was awfully normal, jackets on the coat rack, glasses of water by the PCs just by the kitchen, her photo-
Fuck. The change was barely noticeable to anything human, but had Chris seen that moment of panic? Don’t draw attention to it.
The vein was sluggish to rise, but he swabbed it out of habit, the skin resisting a little under the needle. Act normal. Wesker applied pressure as gently as he could, drawing out the vials one by one. Three as a good number, Chris was a big strong boy, he could handle it. His nostrils flared, taking in the changed man’s scent. “Although I had help when I…changed.” And very different cravings, of course.
Just as quickly, Wesker took out the needle, a cotton bud under his thumb as he pressed down to stop the flow. He did it far too well, but then over the years plenty of people had been on his table in some form or another. Taping it down, he blurred out of sight, the fridge door rattling and then the tinkle of glass as he slotted the vials into place for stasis. A heartbeat later he reappeared, completely unashamed – now that the golden child of UN’s anti-bioterrorism unit was as much a monster as he was, he wasn’t exactly shy about his abilities.
No. This is a threat display. What the hell is happening to me?
“Mouth. I need to take swabs. And skin.” His eyes narrowed as he held up the cotton swabs. “Have you fed on anything yet?” A pause. He had to know. Scientific reasons, of course. “Do you want to…feed…on me?”
Chris didn't even flinch as the man showed off the abilities he had obviously maintained. No, instead he sat there contemplating what he had thought he'd seen... Just the slightest hint of emotion. Even of panic in Albert Wesker's eyes. Could it be..? Chris narrowed his eyes, looking in the direction he could have sworn triggered such a reaction in Wesker.

OOC: Sorry for being inactive yesterday.
Last night, I was at the police station for hours. It’s a really long story. Don’t worry, I’m not in any trouble. But someone else is and it has to do with what they did to me…
I will try to be as active as possible in the next few weeks, but I cannot promise anything. And I will try to RP, but my brain is pretty close to mush at the moment.
I hope you all understand. I love you <3
I could really go for about 10 of these right now, who would like to join me?
:l I wish I could say that looks appetizing…
What do you mean, not appetizing?
*gulps* Not my sorta food….
…This looks like something either I or Castiel would eat.
Death has good taste. Are you a veggie or somethin’, Redfield?
*runs a hand through his hair* Yeah, no. Far from it....
.... I'm not a threat....
:l :l :l
I just…. Can’t get into sexual situations without.. preparing for it…
Tell me about it.
Jess, I….
*shakes head* I’m sorry for what I.. almost did…
*crosses arms* Almost…? I could pretty much feel your… things biting me.
Watch out for this one Jess. He bites boulders too.
:l You're hilarious. *sarcasm*
Jess... I'm sorry. I just... I wasn't prepared for that...
.... I'm not a threat....

….I’m disappointed in you, Chris.
D: It's not my fault!
Chris has been turned down but it’s still adorable
Chris shot Wesker a look as he made the last comment and opened the door. He scoffed and stepped on inside the man’s house, his eyes still downcast, “Wrong, you are. It isn’t really as stereotypical as you may think…” And it ain’t a walk in the park like put off by those teen novels…he thought bitterly.
Once he was far enough into the small apartment, Chris finally removed the hood and looked to Albert. He gulped, his adam’s apple moving up and down in his throat visibly. “So…..” Chris droned on. His voice was dry and hoarse, “Do you think there’s anything you can do….?”
Chris ran a hand back through his hair, a gesture he made all too often when he was nervous. But how couldn’t he be nervous in a situation like this…? Albert and he had been from one extreme to the next. Partners and friends to archenemies… And now he was asking for this man’s help? Chris sighed, shaking his head. How did he even know that this entire meeting wasn’t a set up?
He didn’t. That was the point of being desperate though. You go into things like this blindly…..
Formula of Fear: Chris | Wesker
Wesker didn’t bat an eyelid as Chris came in – far from it. As the younger man moved, he was already assessing his gait, the way he held himself. Picking out the problem areas. The books he’d borrowed and sites he’d bookmarked had all held half-truths and hearsay. He didn’t feel the need to explain himself – Chris possibly felt he should know everything.
Well, he was good. Just not that good. Not anymore.
Don’t hurt him. He’s like the son you never had. The voice whispered in the back of his mind. Wesker pushed the thought away, not wanting the memory that came with it to surface. He knew he was grimacing, but he just didn’t care.
Focus.
“Chris? I have no idea what’s wrong with you.” Wesker said, soft but firm as he crossed the living room floor to the kitchenette. “My only glimpse into this world has been with ghosts and yet more revelations of Umbrella which, I shall be honest with you, I did not want to know.”
He needed the mug. He wasn’t sure why. The heat was welcome; Chris’ flesh gave off a cold aura, and once more, Wesker was painfully reminded of his own inhumanity. The virus burned hot in his veins. “I need symptoms. I need to know what happened.”
He opened a drawer, pulling out a slim silver box. On opening it, he took out a syringe.
“You shall also need to hold still. I shall need to take a sample.”
Chris eyed the box as Albert pulled it out. His mind was still racing as it had been since Jessica had left his apartment. He had almost slaughtered her. He had wanted to.... To drink every last drop of her blood.... Chris shook his head and pulled out a seat at the small kitchen table. He took a seat and rolled up one sleeve of his hoodie.
Chris held out his arm for Albert to take the sample. He brought his free hand to his face, running it over softly and then pinching the bridge of his nose. Chris closed his eyes as he began to speak again dryly, "Right... Uh, symptoms...."
Swallowing past the lump in his throat, Chris continued, "the sun... It burns my skin. But it doesn't kill me...." He averted his gaze from Wesker's. Right now, he was the one of them that felt like a monster. Oh how the roles had switched.... How ironic... he thought bitterly, shaking his head once again.
"I can't lose blood... Can't get hurt.... Or be in the sun too long without getting... unbearably hungry...." at last, Chris lifted his eyes to meet the red gaze of his old partner - his old adversary, "For blood......"

He would have committed suicide by now if it weren't for his honor telling him that was not the way to go..... "I hear... everything. I see... everything.... I can't take it anymore."
