Karolien Hamers maakt chaotische installaties die ruw en ontregelend zijn, maar de ruimte in evenwicht brengen. Zij gaat in dialoog met Nicolas Baeyens die groteske stalen figuren maakt die de ruimte proberen te domineren en elke vorm van evenwicht verhinderen. Dit gevecht leidt tot een interessante dialoog.

Red Fish Factory and Noguchi Fashion Lab present Japanse fashion by students of the Kobe Design University

For the fourth time Noguchi Fashion Lab makes a guest appearance in the Red Fish Factory. Professor Masataka Noguchi of Kobe Design University in Japan presents the work of his finalyear students in the departments of fashion- and textile design.

'Sensitive Skin” 2013' The theme is Sensitive Skin and the students from Japan concentrate on the question how much their skin is affected by our era. They put our natural skin and our clothing as a second skin under the microscope. How do they feel themselves in this era? And how do the signs of the times reveal on their own skin? Let's look at their creative results.

The Kobe Design University is a state of the art institution, which offers enormous opportunities without losing the old Japanese traditions. During their studies the students get acquainted with the manufacture of yarns and fabrics in ancient and modern weaving looms. Dyeing, fabric processing and refinements are also Japanese specialties. Traditional techniques are used as the basis for today's apparel. FFI Seminar @ Red Fish Factory

"FROM CONTACTS TO CONTRACTS"

In gesloten kringen vond gisteren het seminarie plaats 'From Contacts to Contracts' waar Sophie Pay en Tom Depoortere hun expertise deelden met de nieuwe delegatie afstuderende modestudenten. Academies Antwerpen, Gent en Sint-Niklaas waren op post om even te baden in een bad vol tips & tricks over toekomstperspectieven.  FFI zat erbij en keek ernaar.

Sophie Pay uitte vooral het belang van recruitmentbureaus in de 21e eeuw, nadat je ervaring hebt opgedaan weliswaar. De eerste stap blijft de moeilijkste, maar kan vergemakkelijkt worden. Scholen die een poortje bieden richting een bloeiende carrière zoals IFM in Parijs of University of the arts in Londen. Vooral stages die je de nodige ervaring bijbrengen, zijn doorslaggegevend voor werkgevers. Over cv's en motivatiebrieven was ze redelijk duidelijk: portfolio's digitaal zenden, meer tijd in steken in dergelijke creatieve tools is een must. Laat zien hoe je denkt, maak je motivatiebrief eerder beknopt, het hoeft geen heldendicht te zijn aan de ontwerper en ... maak een LinkedIn profiel.

Tom vond anderzijds de persoonlijke touch van primordiaal belang. Vooral de "klik" met het bedrijf moet vanaf moment één duidelijk worden. Hij houdt ervan creativiteit in werkprocessen te ontleden op een professionele manier, al zal buiten de lijntjes kleuren je geen windeieren leggen bij de hoofddesigner van Essentiel.

Tom over het tijdstip van solliciteren: "Volg het ritme van de collectie, zodat je een heel seizoen op zijn minst kan meedraaien."

Sophie over stages: "Internships openen deuren, ze starten je netwerk. Verpest het niet en vergeet vooral niet feedback te vragen na je stage."

Well, it's been a whirlwind of a week for BHART#01. We've had tons of people coming and going through Borgerhout, checking out the exhibitions and installations. We've received more compliments and kind words that we could recount, and from all angles BHART#01 has been a raging success! As a closer to this epic festival of contemporary art, we'd like to show you, one more time, the site that has been the headquarters for this entire exhibitions, Red Fish Factory. We've had a great time setting up this whole festival, and we're so glad it was such a success. Thank you one and all!

ART INVADES ANTWERP - SEPTEMBER 15, 2012

BHART is the new Art platform organized by Christoph Broich and Thomas Engels, owners of the Red Fish Factory, which is a multifunctional building with several spaces avialable to rent for different purposes such as exhibitions showrooms, presentations, shootings, and everything you can imagine.

This time the organizers decided to go further with a project called BHART and use not only the Red Fish Factory but the whole neighborhood of Borgerhout to present the work of many contemporary artists, the result, a fresh and interactive idea  divided in to three sections, Bhart Exhibitions, Bhart Insight and Bhart Extra which includes, exhibitions, installations, performances, etc.

Here you are a selection of some different projects presented during this edition to end up tomorrow September 16th, so, now you know what to do if you are in Antwerp this weekend.
