Hi there, I'm a normal (sort of), video gaming (very), fanfic writing (sort of), video producing (sort of) English guy, trying to find his place in the world. Welcome to my blog (sort of).

This past year has been dreadful, as I’m sure no-one would disagree.
Among a litany of losses and conflicts world-wide, this past June saw the United Kingdom public vote by one of the thinnest margins on record in favour of leaving the European Union, sparking and sparked by a rise in racism and xenophobic sentiment proliferated by specialists in the same. This crippled the economy overnight and threw the government into turmoil that many took advantage of to establish an even darker path for the country. Even now nearly six months later, things look to only become more bleak and many are pessimistic or entirely uncomprehending of what the future holds for us.
As though choreographed by some malevolent director, a similar sentiment swept the United States in its presidential election, dominating speculation and headlines for much of the year. When Donald Trump (or, as I prefer, Don Shart) narrowly and in the most duplicitous and toxic fashion since Adolf Hitler secured the tentative democratic victory in November, many of the same feelings surged across the nation as they did across the UK, and many of the scared and hopeful communities set to be subject to new oppression justifiably looked towards the electoral college vote to oppose a candidate by all accounts unqualified and woefully inappropriate to occupy the highest political position available.
Yesterday, the electoral college was simply another demonstration of a broken system. Whilst it has served many purposes over the years, one of its most central was the ability for informed politicians to deny the ill-equipped and the incompetent access to the presidency, however charismatic they might be. Over the centuries, the college has been perverted and corrupted by the party systems that have disrupted the rest of American politics and now, with this new disgrace, we see that indeed just like everything else the college no longer serves its task.
I wish I could give you all a positive sentiment here. I wish I could summon forth some magic words and wash away all the terror approaching so rapidly, wash away all the tragedy, the bigotry, and the bloodshed. But unfortunately I must admit that we are, by no uncertain terms, facing one of the darkest periods of modern history, with numerous avenues of hard-won progress and equality set to be wound back decades.
The one thing I can promise you is that it will not go quietly. Already, bold educators and impassioned politicians are fighting against these disastrous outcomes. Climate science is being rescued from the grips of destruction by altruistic researchers, political departments are steadfastly refusing the demands of their forthcoming superiors, and movements are launching globally to resist what many consider to be the darkest segment of history in this century to date.
We’re still here. We’re not going to take this meekly and reservedly. We’re going to fight. We’re going to keep fighting. And we are not going to stop until the progress of the last fifty years is saved, preserved, and progressed even farther.
Name Five Prominent Female NPCs from Warlords of Draenor
If you’re anything like me, you’ll get past Yrel and then promptly draw a blank.
Liadrin counts since she appeared a few times, right? I think Draka showed up too, although that might’ve just been Horde-side. And what about the Iron Maidens? Oh, wait, they were just a raid boss. Wasn’t one of the orcish clan leaders female? What was her name again…? Zarya? Zayna? Z-something. Bah.
Ask me to rattle off five prominent male NPCs, on the other hand, and I’ll have no trouble. Khadgar, Gul’dan, Durotan, Blackhand, Maraad, Garrosh, Thrall, Velen, Kilrogg… The list could go on, but we’ll be here all day. My point is that all of these are male characters who featured prominently in either quest chains, raids, or a combination of the two.
World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor was a lacklustre experience for many reasons, and the lack of notable female characters throughout the expansion was but a small droplet of saltwater in a vast ocean of mediocrity. But that’s not what I’m really here to talk about. What I’m here to talk about is Legion.
Talk about #squadgoals amirite?
This is a screenshot I took today, at the conclusion of the March on Suramar storyline. In the middle you can see my player character, Kalpana. If you’re especially observant, you might notice something about the lineup of NPCs surrounding my character: Every single one of them is female. Allow me to introduce them.
Starting on the far right, we have Vereesa Windrunner, the youngest sister of Alleria and Sylvanas Windrunner. Vereesa created and led the Silver Covenant, a militant group of high elves which was originally formed to oppose the Horde’s admission to Dalaran; however, as of Legion she has pledged her order to the Unseen Path, a union of hunters dedicated to fighting the Burning Legion.
On the far left is Lady Liadrin. Liadrin stands as the matriarch of the Blood Knights, an elite order of blood elven paladins. Following her character arc in The Burning Crusade, she was conspicuously absent from the game up until the Warlords expansion, though she has since played a much more pivotal role as the leader of Horde forces in Suramar.
She’s also been added as a playable hero in Hearthstone, so that’s pretty cool.
To the right of Kalpana is Tyrande Whisperwind, one of the most prominent characters in the game as leader of the night elves. Tyrande previously stood as general of the night elven sentinels and protected the continent of Kalimdor for over ten thousand years, as well as being the chosen high priestess of the moon goddess Elune. To face Tyrande Whisperwind is to face the wrath of a deity.
Finally, to the left of Kalpana stands First Arcanist Thalyssra, a new character introduced in Legion. We first meet Thalyssra at the beginning of the Suramar campaign, where we find her withering away from mana starvation. We hear her story as we help her recover, and over time grow to sympathise with her as a character, along with the rest of her faction of Nightborne outcasts, the Nightfallen.
I’d probably be equally upset if my home was overrun by demons.
All of these characters, each a leader in their own right, are shown working together to make a stand against the Burning Legion. And to see all these skilled, powerful, important female characters standing side by side in the run-up to such a pivotal conflict in Legion’s storyline is honestly astounding to me.
This is far from the only example; Sylvanas Windrunner, Helya, Mayla Highmountain, Grand Magistrix Elisande, Arcanist Valtrois – all female NPCs, both good and evil, who each play integral parts in the story of World of Warcraft: Legion.
I feel as though Blizzard are trying to bring some semblance of gender equality into a game that’s long been overpopulated by male characters. And while they’ve still got a ways to go in terms of representation, I want them to know their effort is being noticed and appreciated, and I can only hope that they’ll continue to make strides as time goes on.
queer folks, PoC, women, the disabled, non-christians: hi we'd like to not get assaulted/disenfranchised/generally shat on/sometimes straight up murdered for the crime of merely existing
white conservative male christians, easily the most influential voting block in the US: people want us to not be assholes to everyone else?! this is what oppression looks like, racism against white people is real :'(((
i'm sorry who were supposed to be the easily offended special snowflakes again
I know things are not looking great, there is far more intolerance, racism, sexism then we all had hoped. It might be a tough time for LGBT people for a while.
Please stay strong, not matter what happens we must fight for our right to exist and to be treated as equals.
I will protest on the streets if they try to touch our rights to Marry who we love. I would face the water hoses and the attack dogs for that right. We must stay determined.
Reblog if you would be comfortable living in a dormitory with an openly transgender or intersex individual. We’re working on a campaign for gender neutral housing and we could use your support.
While I’m no stranger to the furry fandom, I never really thought of myself as a part of it until a few months ago. I’ve been trying to come up with a fursona for a while now too, but haven’t really come up with anything I like. I’ve got a few ideas for what species and colour scheme I want, but aside from that, I don’t know how to make it unique (being 23 and lacking any artistic talent doesn’t help much). If anyone could possibly suggest something to aid me, such as guides/lineart/whatever, that’d be greatly appreciated.
So, I should probably quickly say that this is the first time I’ve ever written a backstory/biography for a Pathfinder character. It’s also probably worth mentioning that there are a few details I plan on adding/changing as soon as I can get a copy of the Inner Sea campaign guide. However, I think I’ve managed to do a decent job with the information in the core rulebook, and any & all feedback would be very much appreciated. So, without any more delays, here’s Alysstra, my Half-Elf Druid:
Thank you. To be honest, I’d almost forgotten about this post. Hard to believe I made it over two years ago. It’s very nice to see that you liked it. Aside from that, I’m not sure what else to say. So again, thanks. :)
my sister says she’s getting teased at her school for liking pokemon. she’s in fifth grade. my mom is telling her that she’s too old to be playing pokemon. my sister is 10. my mom said ‘pokemon is geared towards a younger audience.’ but i’m 15, in high school, and i still play pokemon and my mom hasn’t said anything about it to me. i want to prove a point to my mom, so if you’re older than 10 and play pokemon please reblog this post!
So this is sort of a follow-up to this post I made a few weeks ago. Basically, it's an idea I've had brewing for a while now. And with Yogsquest 2 on the horizon, I thought it'd be a good time to get this posted.
As before, all the ideas are based on my personal opinions, and are made using the 3.5/Pathfinder rules. I don't intend to ruin other people's AUs or headcanons. Anyone who I mentioned in the previous post won't get a mention here either.
Honeydew - Chaotic Good Dwarf Barbarian. I don't think I need to explain my reasoning behind this one. I know he's more of a fighter, but his sporadic bouts of rage (be it bees or golf courses) make Barbarian seem more appropriate.
Xephos - Lawful Neutral Human Fighter. A tough one for me to figure out. Lawful Neutral seems to fit his agenda(?) best, and he can handle himself in a fight. Maybe take a few levels in Alchemist, just to fit in with his Yoglabs persona (there's an Alchemist archetype called Clone Master, though I haven't really looked into that). Speaking of Alchemists though...
Lalna - Neutral Human Alchemist (Visionary Researcher). The resident mad scientist. And what class best fits a mad scientist? Why, one that was designed to be a mad scientist in the first place, combined with an archetype that makes him come across as slightly madder. For the most part, I'm basing this off his Apprentice/Flux Buddies persona, as opposed to Magic Police or Hole Diggers.
Sjin - Chaotic Neutral Half-Elf Druid/Wizard. This one seems pretty self-explanatory too. Chaotic Neutral because I feel that Sjin is better off just doing what he wants (case and point, making a restaurant franchise based solely on chillis). Druid because he's a farmer. Wizard because he's with the Magic Police. And for a familiar, give him a rat. Either Rat Dad or Cousin Jake would be acceptable choices.
Sips - Chaotic Neutral Half-Orc Rogue. I'm just gonna go ahead and say this: to me, subtlety isn't Sips' strong suit. So why Rogue? Well, what other class would be able to sell high quality dirt as cover for a coke factory? At the end of the day, Sips is only in the business for three things: big money, big women, and big fun. Make him a half-orc in honor of Pretty Margaret, and that about wraps that up.
Nano - Neutral Good Human Sorcerer (Nanite Bloodline). No, that wasn't made as a pun. This'll probably take some explaining. At first, I was intending to make her an Oracle, using the Possessed Oracle archetype (to represent the flux affecting her mind). Then, last week, I got a supplement for the core Pathfinder setting, and inside is the Nanite Bloodline for Sorcerers. When I saw the accompanying artwork, my first thought was how much it looked like Nano's flux infection: the affected skin, the weird eyes, the...dripping. I now have a headcanon that when she fell into the flux node, she breathed in some flux-infused nanomachines that were floating around in there. Over time, they duplicated and spread through her blood, altering Nano into her current state of fluxiness. And besides, it looks so...pretty...
Lomadia - Neutral Good Sylph Witch. I'm going by her Evicted persona with this one, so not much explanation needed. I was going to go with human as her race, but figured that going with Sylph (basically human/air elemental hybrids) would fit better into the fact she's often associated with birds/flying creatures. And, as all witches need a familiar, what other choice would there be for her, other than an owl?
Parv - Chaotic Neutral Dhampir Wizard (Cruoromancer). For those not in the know, Dhampirs are humans with vampiric blood. Not full vampires, mind. So, it was the best choice for the resident blood mage (and suspected vampire). As for the Cruoromancer archetype itself, it depends entirely on - surprise, surprise - blood. Chaotic Neutral seems the best alignment for Parv, with particular emphasis on the "Chaotic" part, since he doesn't seem inherently evil...yet.
Strife - Lawful Neutral Human Alchemist/Rogue. I should probably say this now, and that's that the Alchemist class uses, as the man himself would put it, potty-mouth magic. However, that's not the only thing about the Alchemist class. To me, it's all about progression, especially through the use of discoveries. True, there are some that enhance magic, but not all of them. I decided to focus on those as opposed to the magical side of things. As for Rouge, well, all companies need a charismatic leader, and Strife fits that bill all too well.
Ridge - Neutral Human Gunslinger/Mythic Trickster. I was originally going to make Ridge yet another Rogue, but I figured there were enough of those already. Gunslinger fits him just as well though. As for Mythic Trickster, well, that's to fit in with the idea of him being some kind of demigod on the server. Put simply, Mythic characters are more powerful than regular ones. True, they can still die (as the nuke incident with Bebop has proven), but it's very hard for someone to kill them. I went with Trickster, because I felt it fit Ridge like a glove.
djhd3dcinemax - Chaotic Neutral Werewolf-Kin Fighter. First off, I just want to say that Wolf!Ross artwork is pretty awesome. As such, that's why I settled on Werewolf-Kin for a race. Chaotic Neutral because why not? Seriously, the guy is more obsessed with marble than any of the amazing stuff that Trott or Smiffy make. Finally, I settled on Fighter, because in fairness, he does seem pretty decent in a scrap.
Smiffy - Chaotic Neutral Grippli Wizard. Sadly, there aren't any playable slime races (that I know of) in Pathfinder, so I settled on the next best thing: frog people. I went with Wizard, because that best seems to fit his love of Thaumcraft. As for Chaotic Neutral, well, I'd list the reasons why, but there are WAY too many for that.
Trott - Neutral Gillman (or Merfolk) Alchemist. Yes, another Alchemist. I promise, this is the last one. Now, the reason I've listed two races for Trott is because I couldn't decide between the two. They're both amphibious humanoids, but while the former is mostly human, save for some gills on the neck and an aversion to being out in the sun for too long, the latter is more akin to what we know merfolk to be (body of a human, tail of a fish). As for Alchemist, he seems to be the jack-of-all-trades within Hat Films, sometimes using means both magical and mechanical.
ITLW - Neutral Good Half-Elf Druid/Cleric of Gozreh. This one is pretty obvious too. Druid for the connection to nature, Cleric of the main nature deity, Neutral Good for his general well-meaning attitude, and Half-Elf because it seemed the best choice for a character with close ties to the natural world.
That about wraps the post up. There are some of the Yogs I've missed out, either because I couldn't think of a way to represent them, or because I know very little about their Minecraft personas. Once again, these are based on my own perceptions of the characters, and in no way resemble their actual selves. Any such resemblance is purely coincidental. Anyway I'll just close this off now.
Because of Rythian's earlier post of a Blackrock D&D AU, I decided to have a go and come up with some ideas based on my own perceptions of the characters.
I'm going with Pathfinder/3.5 classes and races (it's what I'm most familiar with), so, here goes...
Rythian - Lawful Neutral Human Sorcerer (Shadow Bloodline)/Alchemist. Basically, an amalgamation of his personas from Rising and Rebirth. Shadow bloodline sorcerers get a lot of spells relating to darkness, as well as limited teleportation powers. As for being an Alchemist, EE2 was pretty much centered around alchemy and its principles, plus Rythian has a lot of potions in Rebirth, so that sort of played into things too.
Teep - Chaotic Good Kobold Ranger/Gunslinger. Pretty obvious this one. Teep's a dinosaur, Kobolds are lizard people. I went for the Ranger/Gunslinger combination because of his skill as a sniper and hunter, and the fact that Rythian gave him a proper rifle in Season 3.
Zoey - Neutral Good Half-Elf Cleric of Gozreh. Zoey was a tricky one to figure out. At first, her connection to nature would make you think of her as a Druid. But because of her robot arm from Season 3, I decided that would somehow interfere with that connection. Then, I figured she would make a decent Ranger. But Rangers are more the hunter archetype than your innocent wardens of nature. So, I decided to compromise by making her Cleric of a nature deity instead.
Ravs - Neutral Good Human Cleric of Cayden Cailean. Yes, another Cleric, but this one with good reason. In Pathfinder, Cayden Cailean is the god of three things: bravery, freedom, and booze. He's basically the personification of Scotland (if you believe what you see in Braveheart). And Ravs, as Blackrock's resident brewmaster/Scot, I couldn't think of any better fit.
Nilesy - Neutral Human Rogue. Blackrock's other resident Scot, and dealer of pools & pool-related accessories. Whether friend or not, he still charges 10 diamonds and/or friendship for his services. Money is his game, and so a Rogue seems to be what I think to be the perfect fit for Nilesy.
