Currently minorly obsessed with Roi Octopath Traveler

I write, mostly about Octopath Traveler 2, but occasionally about other fandoms if they grab me

I'm mostly active on Discord and Bluesky, but I'm trying to learn Tumblr (sorry if my etiquette is weird for a bit!)

Games that let you pet dogs are a dime a dozen now, but let's not forget that Tales of Symphonia let you go a step further by having one of your party members personally assign a name to every dog in the world, with a reward for finding them all.

Note that you cannot name dogs when this party member isn't in your party (or when... she doesn't feel up to it, to put it in a spoiler-free way) and that once a dog is named its speech bubble will have its name in it. There are 30 dogs in total. Some are missable. The walkthrough has to include the note:

What would the travelers smell like

Ophilia: she constantly smells of church because her clothes just absorbed the air in the cathedral, so wax and incense. Occasionally smells of warm food if it’s supper time because she likes to help in the kitchen. The rest of the time she just has a very clean smell

Cyrus: no way this man doesn’t use some sort of perfume. He likes to smell nice and of whatever flower he uses when he washes his hair- often goes to Alfyn to ask for some haircare/skincare product if he finds a flower he likes during their travels (gets sad if Alfyn tells him using a poisonous flower in a lotion will cause him hair loss and possibly death). He also smells of parchment and dust, and leather if he’s been handling a leather-bound tome. Will occasionally get stinky if he’s doing some compelling research in his office and he forgets to take a bath for like days

Tressa: smells of salty air and something sweet, like that cozy natural scent children have. Her hands often smell like copper because she is always touching coins

Olberic: smells like Leather. A lot. Leather, iron and something earthy like soil. Often starts to smell of sweat by the end of the day and at that point he just smells of testosterone

Primrose: smells really good. She loves taking care of her hair and skin especially, so she will also often go to Alfyn to ask for skincare oils and balms. Smells like almond, myrrh and whatever intense-scented oil she puts on herself. Gets really moody and miserable if she notices she starts smelling bad

Alfyn: this man smells like weèd lol. Smells of whatever plant or grass they find themselves surrounded in because he will wander around looking for useful herbs. Smells of hay, an old flannel shirt that has been too long in the sun, and hormones. His hands smell of fish when he fishes or cooks fish and sometimes it lasts for a few hours

Therion: he is a stinky boi, sorry 😭 he probably smells of smoke and burnt wood because he often rests/sleeps near campfires. Smells of stale spices from the Cliftlands at best, and dirt and grime at worst, not because he doesn’t clean himself but because living and sleeping in the streets has its downsides

H’aanit: usually tries to smell like nothing because that makes hunting monsters and animals easier so she kinda just smells like a forest. Wood and animal fur (Linde lets her know if she starts having a stronger scent). Starts to smell like well-roasted meat when she cooks and as a result Linde sniffs her all over until it’s gone

Ochette: Constantly smells of food/meat, she can’t help it. She always has jerky in her pockets or in her hands (Akala and Mahina always know where she is they just have to follow the yummiest scent)

Castti: she smells like a hospital. She says in a banter that she doesn’t use any kind of scented stuff on her so she doesn’t disturb patients and honestly that fits. She just smells of isopropyl alcohol because she always cleans her hands after handling herbs and stuff

Throné: In the same banter she also says she tries not to have a recognizable scent but I just know deep down this woman yearns for a flower/fruit scented shampoo. She loves things that smell nice and it makes her sad that her job doesn’t let her smell good as well. Post-game she also starts using perfumes and cologne.

Osvald: smells like sadness. Mainly coffee, leather and old paper, but that smell of dust and rusty iron from the prison never leaves him. Avoids putting scented stuff on him because that distracts him when he’s working. Also smells of warm food after every meal

Partitio: this man strongly smells like cheap deodorant and minty aftershave even if I have no idea if that kind of stuff had even been invented yet in the time period ot2 is set in- (but I think it has). He sweats a lot so he uses those to try to smell nice but he always has that specific smell of deodorant (so you still know he’s sweaty as hell). When he worked in Oresrush he constantly smelled of dirt, too.

Agnea: smells like sunlight, trees, fruit and rainbows. Freshly baked pie and cookies. Only smells of sweat when she’s finished dancing but she definitely smells amazing most of the time because she likes to use scented products.

Temenos: also kinda smells of incense but it has a sadder note to it- like wilting funeral flowers. When he’s far from the church he just smells like clean soap or naphthalene because he is a Grandma

Hikari: has a warm, salty smell to him like leather and warm food. He essentially smells like miso soup mmmmm. Used to smell flowery and of waterlily when he got pampered by his attendants in his palace but he never liked that too much

Update - @redheadkitten4 suggested that Temenos would also smell like fudge because he keeps some in his pockets for children so he's even more Grandma coded
